Turok: Dinosaur Hunter Remaster – New Screenshots Released

Night Dive Studios has released three new screenshots from its upcoming Turok Remaster. Unfortunately, Night Dive Studios has not improved the game’s assets (textures or meshes). The team, however, has simply increased the game’s draw distance, so at least now we can see the environments without that annoying fog. Enjoy the screenshots after the jump!

          1. When you have nothing else to say just use parents for the sake of insults – typical lowlife and gutter class attitude.

          2. says the freebie crybaby wanting everyone’s hard work for free. too bad the world doesn’t revolve around you! boo hoo. everyone else gets to revisit an awesome franchise while you cry about it. loser.

          3. says the freebie crybaby wanting everyone’s hard work for free. too bad the world doesn’t revolve around you! boo hoo. everyone else gets to revisit an awesome franchise while you cry about it. loser.

          4. Ha, hard work ? yeah draw distance = hard work. How much do you donate to the hard work of modders who put far better projects for free just to support them ? or how much do you pledge to kick starters of new games that become full successful franchises later on like Divinity: Original Sin ? I support those projects with my money but I understand the difference between hard work and lazy A$$ work, only pathetic morons like you can’t figure that out.

          5. i don’t know who is the bigger coward, you for spelling a swear word with $ or dso gaming for half effort at censoring. either way you are ridiculous and stupid. divinity wasn’t a new franchise. god you really do not know about anything you talk about.

          6. Stay on the topic instead of telling me how to write something and your same insulting reply will only result in more insult from me because it’s something you started.

And for the love of God try to use your fat brain when you read something, from “new” I meant crowdfunding campaign which they did for the first time for “Original Sin”, with this game they returned to their roots of Divine Divinity and thanks to crowdfunding (in which I also participated with pride), the game received an enhanced edition recently and now it’s going to get it’s own sequel, it’s become a full franchise because of their wise decision of a prequel with crowdfunding rather than “HD Remake” of Divine Divinity.

          7. Dude you seem to be much older or mature enough in comparison with this completely stupid kid that goes with the username lordcancer kain You are wasting your time! I mean you are trying to make someone so ignorant and obviously full of issues to understand something so simple. You know it can’t be done! You can’t reason with idiots. Just ignore him and the likes of him for the sake of intelligence! He even upvotes his comments and acts like 12 years old..

          8. Yes I figured as much, he is repeating the same thing over and over surrounded by petty insults which is also forcing me to do the same but I guess the best way is to ignore him as you suggested. I don’t know what’s wrong with people these days though, whenever they get out of arguments or dislike anything they start using parents for insults, don’t know how this makes them feel any better.

    1. What exactly do you have to complain about here?! They’re cleaing up a classic game that isn’t available digitally and releasing it for modern OS’s. Even with pointless “remasters” like Sleeping Dogs, just don’t f*cking buy it if you don’t think it’s worth it.

      1. And what exactly you want from this generation ? we had enough of HD remasters and remakes already, these devs should better focus on something new and fresh rather than throwing same game on us with negligible changes like increasing draw distance, they are not even improving assets as written in the article. I won’t mind if they make a new “small” game with some fresh idea and will gladly buy it but these HD remasters is already becoming like DLC plague and I can say whatever I like, just mind your f*cking business if you don’t agree.

        1. -I want to see good games get released this gen, both new and old. We’ve had a good amount of both so far.
-The developers of this game (Night Dive) specialize in re-releasing old games who’s rights have been lost. They also restored the System Shock series and Strife. They’re not a studio who would be making new games to begin with.
-Them not improving enough for this release is a completely different argument than “no moars remakes, herp der derp”
-DLC often involves devs cutting out planned content to upsell it to you separately later. Nothing like that occurs with remakes, thus “don’t like it, don’t buy it” is a completely valid argument
-You posted your comment on an open, public forum. Others are perfectly free to comment on it. If you’re too stupid to back up your ignorant and meaningless complaints with sound reasoning, don’t post comments.

          1. Half of the devs became HD Remake experts this gen so what you’re trying to explain to me ? you’re reta*ded to the point that you didn’t understand the meaning of my original post. If they are really interested in making HD remakes with changes like “Draw Distance” then so be it but such products should be free of cost not a way to earn money on, if this trend is going to continue then it should be ended.

Those games came, lived their life and now they are gone and these “Devs” are now reviving them with minimal effort and then selling them with a “price tag”. There are modders out who do far better job than these HD remakes and they release their mods for free so what are they fools ? or maybe guys like you are fool enough to buy these HD Remakes.

And what’s next ? maybe in couple of years these HD Remakes won’t work on new iteration of Windows and then some other studio will revive them again with another price tag, easy money isn’t it ?

Finally my post indicated my opinion, it could be meaningless or ignorant to you but that doesn’t give you the right to insult anyone with remarks like “Stupid” which you’re referring to as “Comment”, from my point of view you look like an idiot who can’t seem to tolerate a different opinion on some matter. Also if you think it’s worth it then go ahead and waste your money on it, why bark on others ? this is also a valid argument.

        2. This is Night Dive Studios, who are also going to be making System Shock 3. Remasters like these are their bread and butter for funding bigger, more ambitious projects. I personally have no qualms about supporting these guys – they’re some of the few devs out there who actually do proper, respectful HD remasters.

          1. A more intellectual and reasonable response, thank you. I know who they are and what projects they have done, I have no objection if anyone wants to support them with this project or any other though HD Remasters/Remakes are becoming an increasing trend this gen, there was no such trend last gen and it was good. I personally prefer to support Indie projects and kick starters more than HD Remakes because those are far more challenging and bring something new to the gaming.

As for this project, no offense but I don’t think this is a proper, respectful HD remaster when they are not even bothering to improve assets of the game, all they are doing is just removing some fog for higher draw distance, really ? even if we go by the definition of word “HD”, what’s really HD in this ?

          2. Actually, I like that they’ve mostly left the assets alone. Sure, the textures are still pretty low-resolution, but considering that the game isn’t really available elsewhere anymore, I’m glad that they’ve chosen to preserve the original textures rather than author new ones for the sake of eye-candy.
It’s entirely possible given their previous work that there might be optional graphical updates in there that haven’t been demonstrated yet.

In terms of calling it an HD remaster, IIRC the original game only came with a 3DFX GLIDE driver, which meant the game resolution maxed out at 1024×768 – so Night Dive have either authored a new renderer, or engineered a wrapper that can break the old limitations of GLIDE.

          3. Well you call it preservation and I call it laziness, it’s the matter of perspective. Like I said before I rather go for some new indie game in order to support a new talented studio/dev instead of HD remakes, sure they are great for the sake of memories but we played and enjoyed them in their time already.

As for the art, it’s not necessary that you have to destroy the originality of it in order to improve it, see what they did with Dragon’s Dogma ? it was never released on PC and now it’s coming and they managed to improve the assets greatly without sacrificing the originality of the game.

And no matter how large resolution you’ll use, be it 1440p or 4k, it’s not going to be HD unless the assets themselves scale well to that resolution but anyway to all their own, if you think it’s worth supporting then so be it but I want this so called remake/remaster business to end.

          4. You are wasting your time.. People these days are too blind and ignorant to see things the proper way. Times have changed and will continue to change, nothing wrong with that. The only bad thing is that they change in a bad way and people too.

      1. Drama started by some morons, I merely said this HD Remake business needs to end, it’s sad to see that when a fan does a much more ambitious and valuable HD remake, he is greeted with a cease and desist letter while companies like these continue to earn money on lazy remakes of either their own old games or others.

        1. The HD remake business is more of a console thing than gaming in general. Re releasing an old game to support newer technologies and newer OSs is more of a preservation job than a “cash grab”.
And the way I see Nightdive are just as fans as the anyone else. They went out of their way to bring old games from “legal hell” making they available to public again. This is lazy? BACE pls.

I do agree with you, there’s some people doing amazing jobs out there, but blame copyright law about the C&Ds. But even with their amazing work this still don’t give them rights over anything.

  1. Ah, Turok, one of my reasons for buying an N64 back in the day. It looks OK actually, nice to see they’ve lifted the fog. As much as a classic as this is, Turok 2 will be the one for me. Still, quality games, i’m glad they’re being re-released (I won’t say “remastered” as that’s not really relevant here).
