Vostok Games has released a new set of screenshots for its upcoming F2P title that is inspired by the STALKER series, Survarium. Survarium is a free2play MMOFPS game set in the near future that is under closed beta and is powered by the new proprietary Vostok Engine. The game focuses on the aftermath of a massive ecological catastrophe on Earth, the reasons behind which are only vaguely known, and the following screenshots show off some of the game’s new assets. Enjoy!

Not a fan of MMOFPS (and definitely not a fan of F2P either) but the setting of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series are a big plus. These screen shots are rather looking promising so maybe I can dive into it.
I´m playing the closed beta…sadly I can´t show anything yet but this game looks incredible as of now.
Not a fan of F2P? You are missing a lot…a lot mate.
The concept of F2P itself is good. It reaches more people who otherwise can’t afford the full game, it’s totally based on trust (dev/player), and the amount of content delivered by this relation is great. The problem is all on me, I just feel uncomfortable like, something is missing. I’d rather pay full price and get full content.
Well, but you still can put money in those games as I did in Planetside 2 and now in Survarium. At the end of the day it feels the same and even better if those games are actually better than fully priced games. 😉
But the problem is finding if it is really worth. I mean like: Okay, great games, good amount of content, BUT, it’s really worth the extra money? You can totally stop spending money as you will, but there will be always something being added and I brings up that feeling that if I don’t spend more money into the thing I’m missing it, and living with a doubt of it that item was really worth or not it’s unsetling 😛 Amount of content =/= quality.
Plus you lose everything you invested in the game when it goes offline. It’s just dead and gone forever, which imo is really sad.
some games these days last 10 years, some even longer, that if the game doesn’t die earlier (like, the community stopping playing it) and if you don’t get bored before those ten years pass. I’d give this one a good five years at least, like about three to fully develop the idea they have and then another two to add new stuff.
But if you think about it…you pay for what you get in F2P games.
You always get bored with every single game you play after a while…sometimes and most of the time you pay a fully 60$/€ price to play a 10 to 15 hour single player story, and then that game ends in your library collecting dust or like at Steam uninastalled for the eternity (100+ games at Steam and counting). Yes it is yours but still some of them have MP and yet their servers are empty/dead or also closed.
In F2P at least you pay for what you think is good for you…and depending the time you´ll spend with that particular game.
F2P´s are meant to stay for more years than a regular fully priced game (and also evolve and they get better with time if the base game is good) so all in all there is nothing to loose…If you played what, 15 or 100 hours and you paid nothing at all or just 15$/€…Will it be wasted money? No because you invested it in those 15 or 100 hours after all…you won´t loose.
You can´t say that you didn´t enjoy your time and your money…same with those short 60$/€ games.
At least in F2P you can try those games, see if you like it, see if it is pay to win or not (in this case Survarium is not!) and then decide if keep playing it, invest money…or not. YOU decide.
You are not a “slave” of your games…think about what EA is doing with BF…making you pay for Premium (extra 50$/€) for “future” content…maybe you get bored from the game before that content what you already paid for comes out and what? Yeah you´ll get the maps but you´ll try them and then maybe you are started to play other games and won´t play them, or you don´t even like them because you paid for something that you had no idea of how good or bad they will/could be…(and after that the new game comes in and the cycle starts all over again too…)
That happens to a lot of people and that is worst than pay less for something you sure are going to enjoy because it is already there for you. All in your hands.
The future is not so important if you can have stuff now and enjoy it right now.
There are very good F2P games out there…Planetside 2 is awesome and made me quit Battlefield series (player since BF2…go figure), War Thunder if you like planes is also cool (graphically speaking beautiful too), Hawken is a very good fast paced mech game, Warframe has incredible visuals and is basically a coop mission based game (it gets boring fast though…but it is cool for a while), Path of Exile can laugh at Diablo 3…and I can name some more (which I own and play)…also all of them are incredibly well balanced and no pay to win at all.
Pure fun…download, start, play, fun.
I was affraid of F2P at first…then got into them and damn now I buy new games, finish them and keep playing my F2P´s…I put some money in the ones I play the most (all cosmetic stuff is what I got).
Hope you got my point…F2P are not bad! 😉
How does the visuals compare to MISERY mod?!
you tell me:

can’t look any better imo 😛
Overall Survarium looks more modern than Misery (which I also have installed).
The colour palette, post processing, shaders, lighting (it uses ray tracing), the sound of the guns, the overall motion, characters and weapon models, real time reflections…all is way better.
Is like comparing STALKER against Metro Last Light, some things are better in Metro LL compared to Survarium, and some others are better in Survarium. Both have a mix between realistic looking stuff and some cartoonish…but the environments and how “organic” all looks, plus the atmosphere make both games great. (as well as STALKER of course, but with its dated graphics which I still like personally speaking)
The more noticeable thing to say something, is that for example in STALKER you can see the “gaps or cavities” between bricks in the walls (DX10/11 stuff with the textures, is that tessellation?) and in the environment overall…here in Survarium textures are plain in the walls (without those gaps or details) but you can see the same effect in the terrain´s surface, so is still there.
Also textures are not that super Ultra high resolution but if you look at how composite and organic it all looks you won´t bother.
A good mix of effects and particles, colour palette, assets, textures and lighting effects for sure.
To think that these pictures posted here don´t make the game´s any justice, can tell you something. 😉
I have a private set of screens uploaded already and will add more build after build.
The best thing you can do is sign up at their web site and hope to get a closed beta key. But the open beta will come in a couple of months. I couldn´t wait so I paid some. lol
Oh one important thing…you can see your own feet like in BF or Crysis!!! 😀
This game has nothing to do with Stalker. Another generic F2P shooter, like Warface or Point Blank.
wrong. it’s created by the people who worked on making the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. I’ve played the closed beta and it has a lot of stuff similar to those games: you got the anomalies, they brought back the item system, we’ll have an open world a bit later this year… You could say it’s the spiritual successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
The key people from GSC are now working in 4A Games (Metro 2033).
It’s more like “maybe someday” then “a bit later”.
More like spiritual successor to Counter Strike.
I’d much prefer a single-player Stalker follow-up, but Survarium does look fascinating. I love the world they are creating, and I think they may do a better job of balancing PvE and PvP than games like DayZ have.
Nines you are right with your comments, I have now this pre beta game over a year and nothing changes, this will be never a S.T.A.L.K.E.R MMO, it is F2P win for the money product.
They use a very good marketing for it, but the end it is nothing behind it (like Warface)
