3D artist Liam Tart has been experimenting with Unreal Engine 4 and decided to recreate Half-Life 2’s Apartment 17 in Epic’s engine. Liam Tart had previously worked on Alien: Isolation, and this recreation is most probably a way to show his artistic abilities (for portfolio purposes).
As you may have expected, Tart used custom high-resolution textures that are similar to those used in Half-Life 2. And thanks to Unreal Engine 4, this scene has transformed into an amazing environment.
Now if only there was a proper HL2 remaster that could take advantage of modern-day engines or a game in the HL universe with the number “3” in it.
Enjoy and kudos to Alt-Tab for spotting it!
Thomas is a close friend to John ‘john2’ and John ‘WhatGoesAroundComesAround’. Thomas, John and John basically came with the idea of DSOGaming. Thomas has been helping John with News articles these past years, and prefers to stay in the background than the foreground.

Can’t really fix the fact that it’s just a bland environment even with a new engine.
Great work, simple, elegant and subtle. Just how I like my HL². 😛
Looks Awesome, But this is more impressive and created in Unreal3 :

Man.. this makes me wanna go back and give HL2 another spin. Great pictures btw!
Looks good!
Incredible stuff. HL3 needs to look as good, or better than these screens. These artists also really need to make demos of these for us to explore.
