Former DICE Artist Showcases the Best Real-Time Environments You’ll Ever See in Unreal Engine 4

Former DICE 3D artist “Ren” has released some screenshots, showcasing some of the best environments we’ve ever seen in Unreal Engine 4. According to “Ren”, these environments run in real-time in Unreal Engine 4, meaning that these images can give us a glimpse at what the engine is actually capable of. Enjoy the images after the jump!

  1. Ren – “Turns out it was pictures of my backyard, fooled you!” lol funny if that was the case,…looks good anyways.

  2. Well, any engine can make things look good close up, it just means you can put all detail into one small area

  3. DICE artist respect!
UE4 and Frostbite are getting better and better!
While CryEngine just did his move with better performance on CE5 overall 2017 should be a interesting year for PCgaming!
    PS: Not 2016!!!!

  4. Strange, I haven’t noticed your complains about “rocks in the final photograph have an unnatural sheen to them, like they’re glowing and the light causing the glow affects nothing else in the environment.” in Star Wars Battlefront. (pic)

  5. bla bla bla we all saw theese pictures “very detail terrain” ” when unreal 3 come out/// and cryengine & none of them i mean games deal with that quality of picture annd maybe 10 years later after that date

    1. Don’t forget that the entire horsepower goes into this one small close-up in case of each of those images. If you constructed a decent-sized map, filled it with NPCs, objects, AI, etc., it wouldn’t run for sh… with this quality.

I wouldn’t say that we really “get this kind of gfx now”.

      1. Yea ofc not! I mean its possible to do, just not for games, altho maybe when pascal comes.. this will change? 😛

Anyway, how can you imagine the kind of realistic gfx we will get with the next gen cards? Even just for pics? The pics will look as good as real life lol.

        1. I will be very disappointed if we don’t get a breaktrough in graphics after the release of new GPUs.

          “Even just for pics?”
For pics, we already have non real-time rendering which can actually look almost as good as real life (video from 2010: www()youtube()com/watch?v=lZOnrN4x0Zk (replace parentheses with dots)).

  6. Not gonna lie, it’s the best real-time CGI I’ve ever seen!
I’d like to see something more than close-ups eventually, though.

  7. I want to say that I’m skeptical because these shots look TOO good. I’d love to see this in Unreal. Like, a tutorial of him showing the environments and how he got these shots.

  8. This guy wants to use it for a game! Quotes from YT comments:
“It will be for a game.?”
“…console will not be my target platform due to limitations.
I will be going as far as maxing out 4 Titans, though it should be able to scale back to a single in 1080HD with low settings.”

    1. I lol’ed hard with that comment.I will be going as far as maxing out 4 Titans, though it should be able to scale back to a single in 1080HD with low settings.”

I lol’ed hard with that comment. Titans are the only cards that exist, apparently.

      “It should”, great. Very useful.

      1. In my opinion, he should wait for Pascals with that.

And don’t think he wants this game to be available for an average person. It’s balls to the wall, the showcase of what can be achieved today. I like it! There is no shortage of games, but there is shortage of such cool experiments. Fingers crossed.
