Remedy has released the first official 4K screenshots for Alan Wake 2, showcasing the capabilities of the Northlight Engine. Alan Wake 2 was one of the most impressive, graphics-wise, games that were shown at the PlayStation Showcase 2023, and these screenshots look absolutely stunning.
Now I’m pretty certain that these aren’t bullshots. After all, this is what we can expect from Remedy, especially after CONTROL. So yes, I believe these screenshots are presentative of what the actual game will look like.
In Alan Wake 2, players will continue the writer’s story and experience Remedy’s first foray into survival horror. Additionally, Remedy has already confirmed that the game will be, once again, using a third-person perspective.
Alan Wake II will release on PC via the Epic Games Store on October 17th.
Enjoy!

I would sincerely hope its not broken on PC
It’s an EGS exclusive, so what do you think.
stfu steam troon
Does it matter if it’s EGS exclusive or not these days? Everything comes out unfinished, I’m assuming because the mass audience continues to pre-order everything and doesn’t really complain about the state these games launch in.
I agree
unfinished delayed and still unfinished and overpriced except for the last few years i dont preorder any more and if i cant test a game before i wont buy it.
I don’t even get why the pre-order craze exists, except if you’re really excited or want to preload a game because your internet isn’t very good so you don’t want to wait till day one. The pre-order bonuses and extras are so not worth it these days anyway.
EGS has no social features, so it’s a lot harder to know from how sh**ty the game is.
The same with Quantum Break, performance problems were never fixed.
Game is heavy, but I don’t think it’s inherently flawed. It’s a bit CPU bound if you intend to try 120 fps on older gen CPUs, but I can’t complain about the performance.
I finished the game at 1080p60 native on a 5700 XT + R5 3600.
I finished Quantum Break a couple of weeks ago, and yeah, the performance is utterly awful. I played the windows store version though (gamepass) and from what I’ve seen, the DX11 version on steam runs noticeably better. Even so, it could’ve been much better optimized.
DX11 runs identical to the Store DX12 version.
Only problem in the past was that Maxwell was a dumpster fire in DX12 in the early days.
True, it seems that the game runs way better for Maxwell GPUs when using DX11. It’s still pretty poorly optimized. The FPS was all over the place, which is why I settled for 60FPS, but even then it wasn’t consistent. There were parts where my FPS dipped close to 30FPS, and no, this wasn’t during cutscenes. Sure I’m only running it on a 3060Ti, i.e. a mid-range GPU that’s 2+ years old, but a 2016 game that’s mostly linear shouldn’t perform this poorly at 1080p.
I think the main culprit is the forced 4X MSAA. AA should never be forced onto any game, ever. This was a poor decision by Remedy, which they sadly still carried over to Control. At least in that game it was forced TAA and it can be disabled (even though it requires the user to use a cheat engine).
And even taking the forced AA into account it runs bad. I can run Forza Horizon 4 at 1080p max with 4X MSAA at a constant 120FPS with GPU headroom to spare. Yeah I get that QB’s graphics were somewhat ahead of its time, but if an open world game with increased physical interactivity and better graphics is running significantly better than your corridor shooter, you know you screwed up and you should feel ashamed of yourselves.
Besides the performance, there were other visual issues that rendered the game almost unplayable. At first I thought it was my GPU dying but it turns out it happened to others playing the windows store version. Also, the episodic content didn’t stream at all so I had to watch it on youtube. And don’t even get me started on how disappointing the gameplay and story of the game were.
tl;dr: Quantum Break sucks, especially the windows store version.
The game is deffered rendered, as opposed to Forza’s Forward Rendered. And it’s just a very complex engine.
It was 720p with 4xMSAA and upscaling enabled on base Xbox One after all
I couldn’t care less if it’s forward or deferred. I’m sure many others feel the same way. If the visuals and interactivity aren’t there to justify poor performance, no amount of explanations can excuse their shortcomings since they’re a fairly large company with games like Max Payne 1 and 2 under their belt.
Both Max Payne 1 and 2 were extremely heavy games back in the day tho.
Hmm, I recall MP1 being somewhat heavy on my PC back then but MP2 running like a dream on the same machine. But this was back when I was a noob teenager and I probably had 8X MSAA on for MP1 and not for MP2.
Also, Alan Wake ran really well and looked really good for its time. Remedy screwed up somewhere along the way, and mostly rectified it by the time they released Control. Let’s see what they do with AW2.
Windows store version has had multiple issues since 2018. They all started after a Windows update that also broke Gears of War Ultimate which has never ran properly since. Quantum Break started stuttering badly after that Windows update and every time I go to see how it runs its always doing something crazy.
EDIT: Fired up the store version tonight and getting crazy colored lights everywhere. Tried to take a screenshot then framerate plummeted with gpu usage and wont go back to normal without a restart. The Steam version has always worked normally.
I know Gears Ultimate is unfortunate somewhat broken nowadays.
And I’m aware also QB in DX12 has some colored lights. Can’t tell if it’s a driver issue or something else.
I too have had the crazy coloured lights in the windows store version. And I can also confirm Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is still a giant technical mess on PC as I played through it last year. The FPS fluctuations wildly, from 30 to over 144, at completely random spots. It’s sad that a multi-billion dollar decades-old company like MS just couldn’t be bothered to fix these.
It its the worst optimized games of all time.nothing special in terms of visuals but runs like crap.
I finished last year, waiting for the devs to opt. it and yes, I know exactly what you’re talking about.
Game was average looking and sh*t running.control was better but still not optimized.
Yeah capability to just to ” look good ” without much interactivity or engaging gameplay loops perfect for gimmicky cinematic “games”.
Control had one of the best interactive/destructive environment i’ve seen, so i think i’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, Remedy are good at combining cinematic and gameplay driven experiences
If you think control had “best interactive/destructive environment” you have yet to play Crysis 1, Red faction Guerilla , Crackdown 2 , Just Cause 3 …
Guess what ? I played all of them, and Control is superior to all of them in that aspect with exception of Red Faction Guerrilla. Including JC3 in this list is maybe a joke i don’t know but as far as i remember the only destructible objects in the game are the objective structures marked in red.
And you missed “one of the” before “best interactive/destructive environment”, seriously either you didn’t try Control or you don’t really remember the games you’re citing, Crysis physics for example while still impressive to this day has only the coconut trees, watch towers and some wooden houses that are destructible
Control was superior to Crysis 1? This is your brain on modern AAA slop.
Don’t mind him he’s always like that, he will end his argument insulting you or worse. That’s his MO
In what Crysis is superior to Control ? Is it because you can cut a coconut tree (and only a coconut tree) with a shotgun ?
lol all it had is particle effects and destruction physics for small irrelevant objects. You couldn’t blow up walls or floors or collapse a ceiling onto enemies or anything meaningfully interactive.
“You couldn’t blow up walls or floors or collapse a ceiling onto enemies or anything meaningfully interactive”
Expect for RF Guerrilla in the game cited above, all of them couldn’t do this, you’re critical towards Control for not letting you collapse a ceiling onto enemies while none of these games could do so
OMG! I dont know to I laugh or to cry! I mean, not being ue5 is making me jump for joy, but still quantum break were working like a$$ even on my new config that were like 3x or more stronger than my old one
UE5 is way more optimized than UE4 believe it or not. Check out the Layers of Fear demo on Steam right now. It uses UE5 and is smooth as silk.
Idk, I still remembering even ue3 being crap back at day. Tried that demo for short. Works fine, at least in building, didnt had time to play enough to change location to see how it will work on open
I’d say that’s a poor example.
There are a TON of UE4 games with way better performance than UE5 Layers of Fear.
Gremlins
Layers of fear series have been always known for being optimized.
True, but then again for the Layers of Fear remaster they rebuilt both games (LoF 1 and 2) from the ground up for UE5.
Layers of fear series have been always known for being optimized.
why? Their engine runs like sht.
Maybe, but problem with ue4 were that ue4 games were somehow all lookalike. There are billion of them and after some time they all started to look similar by some magic. Any other engine feels like god given change
have you not seen the inventory/skill menu of modern games, they all look alike.
Anderson woke 2
Well done Remedy Entertainment, for keeping up the woke flame alive. The first character has been checked off the list lads.
An*l Woke 2

Another great game for our platform
alan wake sucked and was borring, they now gonna replace alan wake with a black woman, those are bulllshots, control was insanely unoptimized, these morons think that you should set the graphics to max even if no pc can run them. It run insanely bad on consoles. Meaning they try to impress people by making a game that runs so bad as if its made for future systems that dont exist yet.
There is definately a lot to find out about this subject. I like all the points you made
Well done Remedy Entertainment, for keeping up the woke flame alive. The first character has been checked off the list lads.
Alan Woke 2 The LGCCGVZ+++ Mysteries
Alan Wake 2 shows off the capabilities of the Northlight Engine Does it i mean i have seen just as good screen shot from games a few years ago
my prediction in DSOG in a couple of months;
– Alan Wake 2 delayed to Q2 2024
– unoptimised mess; John; ” Alan Wake 2 runs 30 fps in 4K native with RTX4090″
– Alan Wake 2 suffers from stutter and insane VRAM usage
mark my words.
Remedy=average looking bad running unoptimized games. Doubt this is gonna be any different. John loves remedy games’ crappy performance though.
Alan Wake 2: You’re a black b*tch now
Playing as a negress? Who the fück asked for this?
Her name is Saga Anderson? Who comes up with this?
“Inclusivity” , it’s 2023 man ! you’ve got to be open minded , you’ve got to love the queers and lesbos and all the feminist smelly propaganda shoved into your a**hole like it’s the best thing it’s ever happened to you , you think that “Drag queens reading hours” is something , you haven’t seen anything yet !
off-topic
Valve is the one taking down emulators themselves. Valve contacted Nintendo and asked if they should take it down and took down the Nintendo emulator off Steam themselves.
Unlike what the media said, no copyright, DMCA notice or legal threat was ever issued by Nintendo. Nor did Nintendo ever make contact with the Dolphin developers.
In fact the ones sending a copyright / DMCA notice to the Dolphin team, was none other than Valve themselves.

Looks pretty much the same as Control to be honest. The engine is decent already, so I don’t think there will be too many changes. I’m thinking RT GI, RT AO and RT shadows will be added. Control is a beast to run with RT on and no DLSS, so I’m assuming Alan Wake 2 will be super demanding at 4k native with RT maxed out – to the point that no modern GPU will be able to run it smoothly without any upscaling. Let’s see what happens. Control runs well for the most part, but it took a few patches and DLSS support to make it fully playable.
Great, another F*KING Epic SH*T exclusive…
No buy.
it’s called “Alan Wake” , not generic black female cop , it’s an Epic exclusive ? what the actual f*k Remedy ? Steam player base money stink or what ? f*k you , i’m gonna pirate this sh*t , never give your money to EA !!!
