First Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC patch released to fix crashes

Nixxes has just released the first PC patch for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. According to the devs, Title Update 1.31.0.0 aims to resolve the crashes that plagued the game at launch. As such, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 should be more stable on your PC.

Going into more details, this patch fixes the crashes that could occur while playing with Ray Tracing enabled. Nixxes stated that it is aware of some other crashes, and that it plans to fix them via another update.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched with Mixed reviews on Steam. A lot of the negative reviews are due to crashes and performance issues.

These past few days I’ve been really busy with all sorts of things. I did play it a bit and it appeared to work fine on our main PC. Truth be told, I’m using a high-end PC system, so this may be why I haven’t encountered any issues with it.

Before closing, I should note that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is extremely CPU-bound on Max Settings with Ray Tracing. At Native 4K, our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D was bottlenecking our NVIDIA RTX 5090.

Here is a screenshot from the intro mission. As you can see, our GPU usage is at 91% when the framerate is below 60FPS. This is at Native 4K with Max Settings and Max Ray Tracing.

Spider-Man 2 CPU bottleneck at 4K

What this means is that you’ll need Frame Generation in order to overcome these CPU issues. That, or you can reduce the quality of Ray Tracing.

Anyway, we’ll talk more about the PC performance of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in our upcoming PC Performance Analysis article. So, stay tuned for more!

  1. Are you playing on low settings ? why motion blur ? why buildings look like cardboard cut outs, why trees look like a bunch of green noise, what the hell happened to games ?

  3. This PC port is a disaster.
I had less problems with the fan-made version of "Spider-Man 2 Brazil" than with this official release.
Sure, the fan made PC port lacks DLSS, RT etc. but it's smooth. Rock solid 60fps in 1440p with "PS5 Fidelity 4K" preset. Only few hitches when Vulkan (DXVK) is compiling new shaders.

    1. its solid 768p30 on my nephew old Ryzen5 2600 + GTX 1060 6GB, and the official port dont even run on it, what a joke

    2. RTX 3070 and cannot even get stable 60FPS, I didn't even bother to try on my AMD RX 6950 XT system since the game is 150GiB.

  4. No crashes for me so far(7+ hours) using 566.36 drivers. RT, traffic and pedestrian density affect cpu performance.

  5. "GPU usage is at 91% when the framerate is below 60FPS." This means there is only a max 9% GPU performance left. Remove the CPU bottleneck and you would get a max of 65 fps… on an RTX 5090...

  6. Does it work well? The PS5 game is clogging one of the most efficient CPUs, and RTX in regular RT because there is no PT barely exceeds 60fps in 4K. Ok, you have the most efficient hardware, but it should run smoothly on RTX4090, which is in the recommended configuration

  7. Nvidia open the flood gates for Ray Tracing. S think that a very small percentage of the PC gaming community will ever use. Yet, the whole industry and the community treats it as if EVERYONE is using this 1/4 ass*d tech. So now, we shall spend the next 20 years chasing something that will NEVER be just a regular setting in gaming. When HBAO+ was in it's infancy it never had this form of impact. Side note, please don't explain to me how HBAO+ and Ray tracing differ, because that's not the point I'm marking here.

The only way ray tracing would be adopted is if it was on a seperate card, but because AMD decides to just follow Nvidia and everything they do, vice versa, we will see nothing innovative or beneficial to the industry. All you will see, are 2 companies chasing a magical dragon, that THEY know they can never achieve and shouldn't even be a thing in the menu in the first place.

    1. I cant disagree. How great would be to atuff a 2nd card in the pc case to handle PhysX. Not at all imo. It did too take time to ripe and become mainstream.

    2. I agree, it's all about chasing that magical dragon. Every generation a new tech demo released to make it seem like the only way to properly play it is buy a $2000 GPU that's definitely not going to be able to handle the next tech demo

      1. And for some reason you're the only one seeing this? Why can't gamers just stop and come together and say NO! Instead, everyone wanna be like the tech YouTuber, join in on the nonsense. Now he we are staggered and going nowhere.

      1. BINGO! I’VE BEEN waiting for someone to say this. Nvidia got their hands on physx, it became buggy and abandoned. What a horrible fuqin company. The worse is how AMD seen to have decided to no longer compete. They either follow nvidia or do nothing at all. AMD should sell Radeon so they could become something great. You’re telling me that a company that makes HEDTs, can’t make a better GPU? Makes no sense to me.

Nvidia ended dual GPU support, here comes AMD doing the extact same thing. Nvidia, “we need something to replace dual, FAKE FRAMES. AMD, let’s do the same and call it FSR. Now both companies chasing the same garbage over and over, meaning all they do is sidegrade.

          1. Now more than ever we need Sli. They forgot that PCs are modular and have multiple parts to accomplish one goal. They know that I’m order for Computing to evolve to the next step, we need an array of machines. Trying to do everything in one chip is so counterproductive.

    3. Just sometimes ago Alexander Battaglia , the DF chap, talks in DF Direct about DLSS4 MFG, he casually said to 'accept' MFG as is now because its still 'good enough' tech to use. Meanwhile for RT he make double standard that tech before RT are not good, and RT worth the performance penalty as we wait the tech to get better. What the hell, before RT graphic are more than fine, from svogi, cube map, planar reflection.etc and plenty of trick to make in game lighting more than 'good enough' with less penalty than RT are exist. Look at RT now, even making correct reflection are heavier than planar that considered heavy back in the day but cost nothing today… This RT bootlicker annoys me so much

    4. Ray tracing is the future. Or…the now if you have a 4090/5090. The new DLSS 4 Transformer model lets you run Performance mode at around the same quality as the previous Quality mode. And the new Ray Reconstruction is a huge improvement over the old.

You can actually play Cyberpunk 2077 at over 120fps fully maxed out with path tracing at 4K using DLSS 4 Performance and standard frame generation on a 4090. And because the base FPS is so high (75fps -> 130fps with FG), the latency increase from the frame generation ends up being minimal. I can barely even notice it.

Ray/Path tracing is so good (when implemented properly) it's literally the only reason I'm even trying to upgrade to the non-existent 5090.

  8. ugh more spoogeman, the satanic blessing which shoots spooge and you know these forms of the demons of olympus are what these super heroes are right? the talmudick-kabbalist scum "invented" the major ones, the nasty pantheistic self-god of these weirdos.

  9. Are you playing on low settings ? why motion blur ? why buildings look like cardboard cut outs, why trees look like a bunch of green noise, what the hell happened to games ?

  10. "Spider-Man 2 PC Update Is the First of Many" How about releasing games that are done instead of patch after patch. No wonder why I torrent way more than I used it. I'm not paying for crap only to have crashes, glitches etc. when it all could have been avoided if this game and others are delayed. I really don't care anymore I'm taking what I can lol.

  11. I don't understand why these console ports always crash non stop on PC, I had crashing issues with the first Spider Man and Miles Morales even though I played them both at over 160 FPS on ultra 1440p with DLAA…

    1. Yeah the previous 2 games would crash for me too, mostly during challenges and when it crashed it would corrupt my Autosave so i lost progress if i didnt make a manual save to load that instead, so im not even touching this 3rd game, the texture pop in on buildings was also never fixed despite so many people mentioning it on steam over the years

  12. After the recent Horizon releases, I said that Nixxes had started doing lazy stuffs in their ports. This is the latest proof.

  13. Black guy looks like he's enjoying something long and hard being inserted in his rear end.
