Square Enix has just released the first title update for the PC version of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, and shared its full patch notes. This first patch is 17.7GB in size on Steam, so let’s see what it brings to the table.
Patch 1.001 improves overall game stability, including several bug fixes. Moreover, it updates the DirectStorage DLL to its latest version. Plus,it fixes the graphics preset to be set to ‘Low’ when launching for the first time on Steam Deck, even when save data is linked from the cloud. Also, when playing on a PC that supports NVIDIA DLSS, the default setting for ‘Anti-Aliasing Method’ is now set to ‘DLSS’.
And that’s it. This patch does not address the shader compilation stutters or the low quality textures. It also does not bring any major performance improvements or optimizations.
In short, this is a small QoL hotfix patch and nothing more. So, make sure to temper your expectations. This update won’t dramatically change your gaming experience.
Now if you want higher quality textures, I suggest downloading this 4K Texture Pack. This pack overhauls around 1300 environmental textures. Plus, we have 4K mods for all the main cast.
Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog.
Stay tuned for more!

I can see the extreme corporate push for public to buy new hardware regardless of any graphical or gameplay improvements alongside ray-tracing & framegen propaganda. Include removing support for older CPUs as well.
This is an UE4 title. A decade old engine with last update in 2021.
This should've been running with no problems on dx11 and any 6-core cpu. But no! Square s*cks again. Well, can't buy me. Never bought anything from them after Sleeping Dogs, never will. Let them fall till they understand.
Game is UE 4.26 even, not even 4.27. The fact it runs in DX12 is good, UE4 loves DX12 for CPU performance. The fact they added DirectStorage … good? Mesh Shaders for UE4 tho … emh, ok?
Still, silly that a game released in 2024 (consoles) couldn't be UE 4.27.
Disable directstorage if you have a fast cpu. Game runs better.
I was really excited to get into this after finishing Remake last year. The optimization of this game just tells me I need to mark square as a company to just wait on for a sale because its just so bad.
What bores me the most is square optimization isnt the worst out there.
After FFXVI I thought they could only go up from there. I was very wrong.
yeah rebirth's optimization could definitely be better, but it's far from the worst (especially for an unreal 4 game)
like on a scale from 0-10, where 10 is jedi survivor level bad, I would say it's like a 6
Game itself is easily the best final fantasy game I've played since Final Fantasy 10 came out 24 years ago. So there's that. It legitimately feels like you're playing one of the old final fantasy games. Not like the trash heap that was the first part of the remake. I'm actually shocked at how good this game is compared to the previous one and pray that they'll follow this same model going forward.

That’s cool to hear and I have liked what I played so far. For me if its not a direct recommendation I tend to be very a la carte with the FF games. I did enjoy 7 Remake but havent finished the original. I did play and beat 1, 3, 3 DS remake, 4, 4 remake + after years, 6 and 8. The only other modern FF I’ve played was probably Stranger of Paradise.
Never buy games at launch, wait 1 year, buy it after 40% off sale
The game's shadows seem completelly random/unnatural.
Maybe it is because I play this after Stalker2 and Indiana Jones, but the graphics seem so poor
"The DirectStorage DLL has been updated"
This is a community fix, they shared FF16's dlls to fix game's crashes, a week later SE is doing the same lol

I will never buy any single game if it has low quality textures. I can live with pop-in, pop-out issued. But low quality texture is simply unacceptable.
