FromSoftware has just released Update 1.09 for Elden Ring, which adds Ray Tracing effects to the PC version. FromSoftware has used Ray Tracing in order to enhance the game’s ambient occlusion and shadows.
The bad news here is that FromSoftware did not add support for any upscaler. In other words, there is still no support for DLSS 2 or FSR 2.0.
We’re currently downloading Elden Ring and we’ll share some comparison screenshots between RT On and RT Off. We’ll also share some benchmarks, so stay tuned for more.
Alongside these new RT effects, Update 1.09 brings a number of bug fixes and balance tweaks.
As always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog.

Underwhelming ray tracing update, John.
What is wrong with you?
Ignore him, he’s literally a bot. I’m surprised he managed to actually give a negative response for once. It’s always “Excellent news!” or “Good job by the team!” It seems his AI training models has advanced quite a bit lately. Hell, he even gained the ability to upvote/downvote and block people recently (I know because he blocked me lol).
Once upon a time he replies with “terrible news”.
Bad job by the team?
The examples where ray tracing isn’t super underwhelming can be counted on one hand, in fact I only need 2 fingers.
Minecraft rtx?
That’s definitely one. A couple of others I’d say are Portal RTX and Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition. Cyberpunk 2077 and the Witcher 3 with the next-gen update are decent as well with ray tracing effects.
I also like to bring up Dying Light 2 as a good example.
I’ll add The Ascent and The Medium. It’s been a while since I played Steelrising and Icarus, but they looked good once I got in to them. What about the Spiderman titles?
That soy SCP shooter where you play as transgender Hans Landa had some pretty good RTX.
You’re talking about Control right? I also noticed that she looked like Christoph Waltz in drag lol
Yeah that’s the one.
rtx with no dlss or fsr ridicolous
It’s downright Jewish is what it is. They know people will go buy new 40 series junk for more le reddit ray tracing. Gpu makers are behind all this. Nshidia especially.
Oy vey, how dare you?
Seriously… You’re a tool.
And it took them a year for this?
ALmost +1 year and performance still sucks.
How did it take them a year? No way I’m playing through this whole game again. So stupid. Why are Japanese devs so incompetent yet at the same time the only ones making quality games? The artists are amazing but the programmers trash.
Is the stuttering still there? How about unlocked framerate?
I was just about to ask the same question. PC gaming has become a mockery. All because they wanted to be like their console counterparts. These do call greatest of all time can’t even do proper KB+M prompts or unlock a simple Frame rate. The worse part is that they get awarded for it. They can do no wrong.
And minimum requirements for RT are crazy hahaha
For 1080p, Low Settings + Low RT:
CPU: i5-10600K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: RTX 3060 Ti (8 GB VRAM) / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (12 GB VRAM)
Whereas I’m happy they added RT, I was really looking forward to RTGI. Reflections would have been really nice but I didn’t really expect that. But RTGI would have been a real enhancement to the look of the game and the differing weather and ToD cycles. AO and shadows is better then a kick in the teeth though.
Why not just use reshade and add RTGI or MXAO yourself?
Reshade’s raytracing is screenspace only, not true GI.

Wow! Awesome video in you “link” (i liked what you did there btw…). That completely proved the point I was making in my reply to @fray but I hadn’t watched the video yet. Good one @Lady Flair!
Read the response below… I do use ReShade for RTGI currently but I also have a RTX 4090 and would prefer to have the real deal. Not limited be Screen Space implementations. Also the accuracy would be better if done on hardware as opposed to software/ReShade. Anyway, that’s why.
Edit: Watch the video “referred” to in @Lady Flairs reply.
