A consumer build for Windows 10 has been leaked and The Verge has reported some of the features that Microsoft has implemented in it. According to The Verge, a new Xbox App is now present in Windows 10. Not only that, but Cortana is now present as a Siri-like program that responds to text and voice commands.
The new Xbox App is said to act as a gateway to the entire Xbox ecosystem, including access to achievements, friends lists, activity feeds, and the Store.
Moreover, Microsoft has added new animations to the TaskView switcher in Windows 10.
What really surprised was the fact that Microsoft will – most probably – remove the traditional Control Panel. It is said that new settings app will take Control Panel’s place, so it remains to be seen whether this move will have a similar impact with the removal of the Start menu from Windows 8 or not.
Last but not least, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer claimed that he – and Microsoft – will be talking more about PC gaming in January 2015. A Windows 10 event is set to take place at Microsoft’s Redmond headquarters in January 2015, so it will be interesting to see whether DX12 will be showcased, and whether MS will decide to bring any of its triple-A game to our platform.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Micro$oft always talk about PC gaming when it comes to promote their new OSs.
Yeah strange isnt it?!
Predictable I would say: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=100400267&postcount=6
They do (and I am far from being considered to be Microsoft fan) but we can also see that Microsoft changes significantly lately. It is the time (lets say) as company that make almost all its profit from PC platform try to support this platform significantly. It is also end of “Wintel” platform as we knew it and Microsoft realize that, which is very positive. It is coming very late but better than never (for us and for Microsoft too).
Read about earlier MS promises here on this topic posted by the 7thGuest member, in particular that NEOGAF link in his second comment. No offense intended but I do not trust MS at all. Probably hollow phrases as usual. They tend to pop up when they are plotting to sell another over priced Windows OS system. Whatever that Phil Spencer is planning to say at that upcoming event it better be smoking hot good game news and unless he cant deliver Japan will take over as it is obvious at this point that Japan is targeting the lucrative PC market and unlike some companies here in the “west” they dont make the same mistake twice (Referring to so called “bad ports”).
Yeah so by now it’s clear that only an IDIOT would belive those F*CKERS at MS!
They dont care about Pc gaming at all, they are just full of BS those F*CKN DIPSHITS!!
They will have to change in order to survive strong as they are. They just have to!
Damn right bro, they have no other choice as I can see it eaiter.
Only good things have/will come from Valve, we all know they pretty much single handly saved/pushed the pc back on track. For that I salute them, my hat of to coockie Gabe and co 🙂
Japan cares more than MS about PC gaming. Ironic isnt it?
Yeah it really is, crazy but true mate!
Last time they talked about pc gaming we got gfwl so they should bloody shut their mouths unless the sentence involves “halo” and “pc”
Couldnt agree more. Well its up to Phil Spencer now.
As they did with Games for Windows, I’m afraid this Xbox App is just a rebrand of the old GFWL store. Pure smoke.
”It’s time to talk about PC gaming on Windows”
*they shove xbox app into PC os*
It’s a play on words – what they mean is that you’ll be able to talk about PC games in an XBox app running on Windows.
I really wish games didn’t rely on Windows. What’s up with SteamOS – WHERE ARE YOU? I would never use SteamOS, but we need some competition here – PC gaming hasn’t changed much in 20 years.
I couldnt agree more with you Jay!
Even when SteamOS is released people will still rely on windows. Most devs refuse to develop for Linux because barely anyone uses it for gaming and people don’t use it for gaming because devs don’t develop for it.
I know Valve is taken much positively by PC community but Valve mind PC gaming only when it also benefits them. They never released their PC sale numbers to support PC (it was huge problem years ago when PC was considered piracy platform and Valve was the first company that knew this is far from truth!). For that reason we never get many consoles games ported on PC! Even now Valve cares much more about their new Steam stock exchange market than Linux support. If we want Linux to become relevant on PC gaming we would need more companies invest much more!
I don’t know if I understand correclty, but I have to disagree.
Monopolies are always bad for the consumer.
They need our money that’s how the industry its working sadly!
Most of the PC users have much powerfull hardware than PShit 4 and Xbone!
Steam OS sound like a sweet dream for me!
PC gaming has only improved in 20 years.
Read that Phil Spencer will be there and talk about “the future of PC
gaming” (again). Hmmm hmmm. I wish the audience (If there will be any) would stand up and ask:
The HALO COLLECTION for PC where is it ?? Even Japan cares more about PC
gaming nowadays then MS do. It will nontheless be interesting to watch.
PS It wouldnt be suprising if Phil says: Yes the Halo Collection is coming to PC but it will be Windows 10 “exclusive” or some stuff like that.
oh is that mean they’re officially forcing developer to make games at cinematic 30FPS!!! 😛
so, its basically GFWL 2.0
Not really. In fact not at all. It’s just a app to manage your xbox stuff on windows. Nothing like gfwl.
sorry Microsoft. are you shoving xbox app down my throat? sorry i’m not interested in 720p in gaming when i’m gaming on 1440p to 4k. if you make microsoft store that you can sell your HALO, FH2, Killer Instinct, etc exclusively then i probably be more interested.
Please Just Forza Horizon 1+2 that is all I want from MS and Insomniacs Sunset Overdrive and you’ll have me sold
I think this is going to be just the “on live” stream old xbox games on PC. (no real PC games)
This is how they are going to force us to work with the clouds… 1st no physic suppport (DVD), 2nd you own the game in your hdd, 3rd you pay 60$ (or more dlc bs) for nothings everything virtual, and they are going to succeed pretty sure… cause people now days buy anything and everything…
Yeah probably something like : Hey pc gamers do you want to have fun playing pc games ? You can do that if you buy an XboxOne.
Please dont take the control Panel. Its a legacy feature people like just like the start menu.
If they don’t needlessly change things around people will notice that there is literally no reason to ever buy a new OS ever, and they’ll get upset that MS forces them to buy new OS with their laptop when the old one works fine.
I will upgrade if they boost security and speed hell even 12 is enough for me. They should focus more on making a great easy to use os
The linked screenshot of the new Control Panel looks like it’s just being renamed and given new, Metro-ish icons.
I guess they’re skipping number 9 to make it seem like 7 and 8 are older than they actually are? Stay shady, Microsoft. Now they’re pulling the same marketing nonsense as graphics cards manufacturers when they rehash a generation but call it a higher number to make you assume it performs better when it actually doesn’t, see nvidia gen 9000 and AMD 6000 and the most recent gen.
They’re skipping “9” because old coding for Windows 9x could cause a lot of trouble.
When Microsoft wants to talk about gaming PC, I cant expect anything good…
The best thing about all this crap is that nobody belives those A-Holes!
Keep digging MS, and you’r crappy xbone is sh*t just like you!
Stay clear of pc gaming for F*CKS sake, we dont want or need you!
Soon valve says hello word with SteamOS and that is what MS really are afraid of, they will eat the bullet, they will be dust..F*CKN DIPSHITS!!
Are there really any PC gamers that want XBOX Live on their PC OS?
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks man!
Basically Xbox app is the next iteration of the Games app currently on Windows 8.
A better partnership with Steam for PC Gaming.Streaming Games online from Xbox One to any Windows 10 device.
Why do they keep doing this I use the control panel all the time. Maybe I should just learn the damn command line hope they don’t change that
Xbox for Windows Live? So it’s like a Steam app for android, except the app is xbox and the OS they otherwise got 0 gaming presence on is Windows?
I guess us AMD users will have to keep enjoying Mantle’s performance gains on Windows 7/8/10 then. Typical Microsoft DirectX upgrade requires a new OS.
Unless it’s a free app that allows Xbox One games to be played on PC, I’m not interested.
and they say no more directX update for windows 8.1 and 7. what a dirty business
