Watch_Dogs – Incoming Official Patch Will Address Stuttering Issues

Now this passed under our radar. We all knew that Ubisoft has been working on a performance patch for the PC version of Watch_Dogs. Still, we were unaware of what exactly that patch would fix. Well, good news everyone as Ubisoft has identified what is causing the stuttering side-effects on the PC version of Watch_Dogs and is currently working on a fix.

As Ubisoft’s UK Forum Manager wrote on the official forum:

“We no longer need any more information, the team has enough to pinpoint the issue now:

We have identified the factors that are creating this particular issue and are currently working on a fix. We’ll keep you updated when we know more on when we’ll be able to release it.”

There were some rumors suggesting that this patch would be coming this week, though nothing is certain at this point. Do note that TheWorse’s upcoming mod may very well improve the game’s stuttering without the need of the official patch.

For what is worth, it’s good to see that Ubisoft has not abandoned Watch_Dogs PC.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

You forgot the ™ at the end ,use alt+0153 ,that’s the proper way to spell it “Watch_Dogs™”

    1. trademarks nazi…

      jk 😉

anywho, good to see they are working on it. Can’t wait. I really want to actually get past an hour of gameplay without being vexxed by that stupid stuttering. And no using medium textures isnt a solution. They look atrocious lol.

As much as UBI seems to screw us with bad ports time and time again, they are decent at improving the game after a few patches and dont take forever. Well at least most of their games.

SC:Conviction still has terrible mouse lag and gpu inefficient slowdowns everywhere due to code bottleneck.

Ghost Recon:Future Soldier finally runs well but takes a lot of GPU power, more than it should. But it took roughly 10 patches LOL.

Nixxes is much better at patching and giving you more pc options. Probably one of the better porting devs.

      1. yeah, at first i didn’t liked Nixxes, but when i see their works they do some good ports and lots of extra stuff too.

it took almost 1 full year for ubisoft to fix Ghost Recon 😀 never fixed ACIII or no performance patch for ACIV. on the other hand Ranbow6 games were fine and splintercell blacklist & farcry 3 were great, hope to see some love about PC version of AC U and farcry4

  2. Ubisoft has my full attention now.. AC3, AC4, are still jacked on PC… Now they are going to “fix” watchdogs… If they screw up The next Rainbow 6, The Division, and Far Cry 4 on PC. Well I am done with Ubisoft titiles.

    1. AC3 and AC4 aren “jacked”… i assume that means unplayable lol.

The AC4 stuttering and huge fps dips are gone for the most part, only a tiny few places you cant get full 60 fps without a gtx 680 at least. The nvidia dx11 shader cache optimized driver helped a lot too.

AC3 you can run full 60 fps as long as your environment quality isnt at max, 1 below and you are fine.

But I do agree they are far from perfect ports.

But man, does AC4 look beautiful for the most part with everything maxed out and downsampled. Caribbean setting does help.

      1. I been doing Many test on AC4 as of late. Even with a I7 4770k and a 750ti at 1080P the only way the game hits 60fps is if everything is set on low or off. And even still I seen dips too 36fps that is a total joke in it’self…. A pc user should not need more then a $249 gpu to play this game on ultra even with the PhysX Addition at 1080P and have a average of 60fps

        1. Dude, AC4 actually looks pretty great when maxed out. OBVIOUSLY you can’t expect a 750 Ti to max it out at 1080p let alone still at 60fps. It can handle it with high settings though and should average about 40fps which is STILL great for the card. You are being really unreasonable.

          1. I never said I expected it to be maxed out but come on… everything on low just to get 60fps and it still dips to 36fps from time to time. That is beyond lazy optimization.

edit even when setting the game to 720p it made little if no difference

          2. You cant hit 60fps on AC4, even @ 720p and low settings ? Something must be wrong.

I played AC4 before the physx patch, and It run great. Everything @high (console details so without soft shadows and god rays at high, but with HBAO) 1920x1200p, 57-60 fps on single 680GTX OC. Even when I turned on soft shadows, nvidia god rays it was 40-60 fps, so still very good.

          3. That’s basically my experience with my gtx 680 as well. But I want to run everything on high so I cap it at 45 fps for a better and smoother experience. Normally I wouldn’t but this game with an Xbox one controller and 45fps vsynced is surprisingly good since its third person and single player.

Rain storms look fantastic but they drop my fps by 5 at least from whatever its already at so it jumps from 60 fps to 48ish depending on where I am.

People seem to not realize the Nvidia effects themselves(except for physx for some reason) are really optimized for Nvidia hardware. Even amd users can use them with not a huge slowdown. But the overall game engine itself bottlenecks in high foliage areas it seems. Probably an issue with console porting and CPU offsetting.

          4. cities are the worst at least for my spec. So realy up to where do you measure that. Also vsync is necessary otherwise there is stuttering.

          5. On my PC it was the other way around, cities in Assassin creed 4 run much better, even while using max settings my fps was perfect there. Only on vegetation areas I had dips to 40-50 fps, that why I played without Nvidia effects (57-60 fps while using PS4 console details).

          6. the port isn’t good but strange 36fps on low on 750ti.
i use 2x TXAA and physx on high everything else on Max locked to 30fps and it’s always 30fps. i can turn physx off and PCSS to medium and hit 60fps all the time with a 660ti

          7. What’s strange about that? PhysX is unoptimized as hell and in this particular game absolutely useless, just keep it off^^. And TXAA blur the image as hell so then would be pretty weird to use higher settings anyway if bigger detail gets lost in there anyway. Also very much depends where are you, on sea you get 60FPS with everything and do not forget foliage settings.

          8. nothing strange about me, i’m fine, actually it runs good for me 😀

i guess i replied to you by mistake, i wanted to replay to that other dude
            the strange part was this:
Even with a I7 4770k and a 750ti at 1080P the only way the game hits
60fps is if everything is set on low or off. And even still I seen dips
            too 36fps.

          9. even with vsync there is stuttering unless you run at either 60 fps or 30fps. anything in between causes jutter due to high frame times. you can pan the camera around and see it for yourself. Its not horrible but isnt smooth as it should be.

          10. When I did a low settings test it dropped into the high 40s for a very short time at 1080p, SMAA, I even did a test video on it, explosions, police and such in Watch Dogs

          11. that game is screwed up on PC, its just a fact. runs the same in same quality as on PS4 with much worst HW than his PC!

          12. Don’t see how you can call 900p/30fps same as PC quality, I even run better than that on my GTX 660. A lot of people are exaggerating. I can hit 85fps on low, 1080p, SMAA, medium textures.

          13. to be fair they patched the ps4 copy a few weeks in to get full 1080p.

But i still dont agree its on the same quality level especially when everything is maxed out.

Just the fact that I can still get 45 fps with everything maxed out is already better than the ps4 version.

          14. it is same quality with bit of exaggeration for sure, but point is we compare uncomparable HW that produce almost alike graphic. Hope now you get it. There always gonna be differences but the big question is: Do those differences justify much higher HW requirements? In this case high-end PC 3-5 times higher than PS4.

          15. Well, a R9 290x can run the game maxed out at 1080p ultra, 8xMSAA at over 30fps but the consoles can’t even come close to that and they would probably play it below 10fps, it’s about right really. 3-5 times the power doesn’t mean 3-5 times the performance anyway.

            John Carmack:

“PC’s are about 10x more powerful than the consoles but that doesn’t mean 10x the performance” That’s pretty much what he said.

        2. disable the PhysX effects. There is seriously no reason at all keeping them as they bring all systems to their knees.

          1. I was just stating testing on various gpu’s that for the gamer on a budget who buys a 750ti that the game is just a pain to get a stable avg 60fps at 1080p with everything on low or off as in the lowest possible settings. Which is really lazy programming.

edit even at lower resolutions too 720p it made little difference in performance. Overall Ubi has a lot to prove to PC user’s. That’s what I think.

        3. PhysX is mainly CPU bound due lack of any x86 and multithreaded optimization, no matter what GPU you have. Hopefully FLEX will be used soon under DirectCompute but since most titles still use v2.8 it might take few years. BTW you definitely don’t need i7 for any game as almost no game is able to use more than 4 cores and low level API will bring about 550% performance improvement for main thread!, you should really speand more money on better GPU (but for this particular game it wouldn’t help you anyway 🙂

PS4 btw use CPU about 3times slower than AMD FX8350 and most compute will be done by GPGPU in the future anyway plus HT is useless under DX12/mantle (low level API) so there is no way you will use that kind of performance (i5/i7) in next-current gen and in last gen you only use one thread anyway due lack of optimization.

    2. I think you should expect The Division to stutter like crazy. It’ll save you a lot of grief later on when you find it… stuttering.

      1. Well the game Rocks on my MSI 780ti gaming but I was just thinking about people who don’t have $700 to throw into a gaming PC

        1. Do you have 60 FPS+ Ultra and Ultra textures and 8X MSAA and the min FPS to be 60 ? in 1080p?
If you don’t your 700$ with this version of WD its useless

          1. Ok thank but no thank you !
bad optmization for you and me and everyone even guys with TITAN-Z!

  3. I have been actually enjoying the game. The shuttering when driving is bad but I have got used to it to the point that it isnt that annoying. But it’s really great if they can reduce it significantly.

  4. I was wondering when I would hear news about this. They said the patch would come “early June”. We’re officially past that point.

Looking forward to the patch, though. Maybe with the patch plus mods this game will run beautifully.

  5. I’ll admit the games buggy but it’s not unplayable. It’s convineint when I die and the game progresses me anyways 😀

  6. 1080p 60 fps all the time on Ultra with 2xMSAA then Ubisoft will really have a bit of love for PC gamers if not then………sad:|

      1. oh but but INFAMOUS SS is oh so much more better with 1080p/26 – 40fps yet not half as dynamic as Watch Dogs, but but dem billzon particles effects in infamous SS.

    1. of which only 5gb are used and the cpu uses only 6 cores not to mention the cpu is so weak that you cant possibly find a 8core on pc that is as weak.

Face it next gen consoles are a joke. We already know that sony exlusives will look good but everyone else just delivers subpar ugly games, this e3 was a joke, no matter how you twist it the next gen consoles are a joke.

  7. Whatever! It’s still stuttering even at 60FPS! Then of’course idiots will say “well it must be your CPU” You idiots have no idea how fooled you are! You let them talk you into believing anything! When the fact is the game code is still not fixed! And it does not matter what CPU you have! The game is still going to stutter even at 60fps because they never fixed the fxxxng game! The only reason it seems normal to you now is because you got used to it, But play GTA 5 for awhile and then go back to it. Ubicrap should be out of business! They suck! And when game companies refuse to make a game right people should protest by not buying it! Yet you fools still give your money! And it’s because of that (not pirating) we get sh**ty unfinished games now!
