Warner Bros has officially announced the next Batman-universe game, Gotham Knights. Gotham Knights is a cross-gen game that will come out on the PC in 2021. In addition, the publisher has released the first screenshots and gameplay trailers for it.
In the following gameplay footage, we get a glimpse of the open-world Gotham City where Batgirl and Robin join forces to take on MrFreeze in one of several Villain encounters found within the city. Batgirl and Robin will use a variety of abilities, weapons, and unique combat moves to neutralize their foes.
Warner Bros has stated that players will be able to play the entire game in solo or in co-op. Moreover, the game is not set in the Arkham universe.

“Batman is dead. It is now up to the Batman Family – Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin – to protect Gotham City, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops, and fear to its criminals. You must evolve into the new Dark Knight and save Gotham from chaos.”

Oh dear that looks very disappointing.
It looks like a live service inspired game ,with enemies that have health bars and linear onrail co-op missions that you have to play with friends to get the best out of.
Mr Freeze from Arkham City is without a doubt one of the best boss fights in videogames available today, feels weird that the new game is now a live service thing where Mr. Freeze is basically an enemy with huge a health bar that you want to spam your attacks on.
Freeflow looks to be gone, which made the games what they are, and its just about spamming your attacks and abilities to deplete health bars.
This sucks as the idea of it being a sequel to Arkham knight (at least that is what the trailer says it starts after) with court of owls is so interesting but I feel like it might not have the same impact in this game.
Gotham Knights is not set in the Arkham universe. However, the new Suicide Squad is set in the Arkham universe (and is set after the events of Arkham Knight).
That is something does confuse me as well, so they took the ending of Arkham Knight, which I assume is the case from people talking about an explosion in the trailer, as well Batman saying that he has destroyed everything which happened in the knightfall ending.
But then you are right it doesn’t take place in the arkham universe.
The real issue here is that they turned a succesful single player series of games into not one but two GasS, the line between console and mobile games comes thinner and thinner with this trend. I hope these two and the Avengers fail miserable so the trend dies down.

this fad will die out after these two games. other companies that tried this approach are now butthurt and rethinking their strategies. WB and Rocksteady are just latecomers that are in for a world of misery and disappointment.

I just watched the Suicide Squad trailer and i dont understand, it looks so bad, to me the whole Arkham Universe finished with Arkham Knight.

I dunno how they manage to make it look worse than a game from 5 years ago (i’m talking about Arkham Knight of course, and that thing was on UE3)…it all ends up in the artstyle i guess. The game seems dumbed down a lot too, the combat is…i dunno, reminds me of a mix of Assassins Creed Unity and The Division.
granted that GaaS titles are all multiplayer/coop, they need to run on a variety of devices so that they can sell more. But I agree entirely, even Arkham Knight on PS4 had much better graphics

Truth to be told is that an absolutely abrupt majority (and i mean, +90%) of AAA Blockbuster players are males between the ages 16-25.
So when you make a game about the Bat-Family , the vast majority of your base expects to play either as Nightwing or as Jason getting tortured by Joker , almost nobody cares about Batgirl or Batwoman, and the people they are trying to virtue signal to will not even rent their horrible game.
Both trailers, Gotham Knights AND Suicide Squad look absolutely atrocious, i don’t know what they’re going for this is beyond cringe and i dont think they’re a name big enough to still sell like crazy.
