The Evil Within feature 2

The Evil Within – Minimum PC Requirements Revealed

After the controversy surrounding the surprisingly high PC Recommended Requirements for The Evil Within, Bethesda decided to also share today the PC Minimum Specs required for running it. As the team noted, with this setup PC gamers won’t be experiencing the game at 1080p and they’ll likely need to turn off some features, but they will still be able to have a great experience with the game.

Bethesda suggests at least an i7 or an equivalent 4+ core processor CPU for its upcoming horror survival game. Wait what? An i7 is the minimum CPU requirement for The Evil Within? Hilarious stuff (though we do have to say that the minimum GPU requirement is acceptable this time around).

The Evil Within releases on October 17th, and below you can find  the game’s minimum requirements.

Minimum Requirements
•OS: windows 7/8.1
•GPU: GTX 460 or an equivalent 1 GB VRAM card
•CPU: i7 or an equivalent 4+ core processor
•RAM: 4 GB
•HDD: 50 GB

    1. ya thats not hard to imagine…coulbd a first generation i7 like a 920 or something…either way, once again, just like mordor, the recommended are just pure bullshit pr. this game wont need 4gtb vram to run on max. and yes, i7 should be the minimum for new games, if you really are hoping for dual core minimum, go back to last gen.

      1. i7 is i7, regardless of generation, there isn’t much of a difference in IPC performance in there anyway. It is definitely the very first game that NEED 8 virtual core CPU to run.

        1. not at all. first generation i7’s are trash now and can barely run the latest games specially open world games. and i7 920 is worse than a an i5 3570, and by A LOT. so no, i7 first generation requirement is trash, you obviously have no idea wtf you are saying.

          1. good for you. so whats the whining about then in this article? a 950 is nothing compared to an ivy bridge or a haswell, and people bi**hing thats an i7 first generation is too much of a low requirement? come on. should be minimum in every game since next gen began

          2. yeah, complete sh*t, funny how i can still run shadow of mordor 1080p on max with hign textures aa 16x af flawlessly and any game actually so far except nfs rivals with a q6600 @2.4ghz stock ?
I hate these arrogant postings, ” oh, everything older than 4 years is sh*t, trash “

    1. lol another noob who has no idea what requirements mean or are..i7 means sh*t. its not even asking for a sandy bridge.

    2. Bethesda did the -exact- same thing with Wolfenstein, go see how that turned out. You do not need an i7, they just haven’t found an elequent way of saying “Better than an old budget chip”.

  1. The i7 CPUs have been around since 2008.

If you dont have better or equivalent to a 6 year old CPU and you expect to max out new games at the start of a console gen then its seriously time for you to upgrade.

      1. AND consoles are the exact reason why this particular game require such a CPU! Consoles with their tablet tier CPUs!
        WAKE UP!!!

        1. The i7 CPUs have been around since 2008.

deal with abstract concepts, you are being to literal in your reading

    1. Most of todays games cannot even use efficiently 6 years old CPU (they use fraction of potential performance of todays CPUs) so the only reason why 6years old CPU isn’t enough for todays games are instructions (AVX, etc.) not horsepower!

  2. Better be same graphics as next-gen at least… better be!

PS: Intel is doing a great job paying up devs for that damn i7 ridiculous req!

  3. Because we all know that an i7 860 performance is the same as the i7 5930K. For me this kind of unspecific requirements are meaningless.

    1. I think it is “hidden” i7 commercial. Wolfenstein on same engine runs great on variety of HW (AMD FX has very much same perf. as i7/i5). I cannot see any reason why this game should be different and if is, then we should ask why! Why game that runs on low end spec consoles need i7 on PC?

    2. Exactly the requirmnets are nonsens, which i7? Also what about amd? The requirments are totally amateurish, they cant convince me to buy the game when i dont know if it will work.

      1. In other words they’re saying you need a top end CPU with best single thread performance like Intel’s and they didn’t optimise it for multi-thread on the PC.

        1. Then they could easily say you need top Core i3 + since it has about the same IPC for one thread anyway. Wolfenstein scales very well on 8 cores so I think they just being funny or intel paied them.

  4. “Bethesda suggests at least an i7 or an equivalent 4+ core processor CPU”

They should lay off the crack.

Seriously why is that? Wolfenstein said an i7 but my crappy old 955 had no problem.

It still is vague, what 4 core i7?

The 720QM for example is a 4 core cpu but has 1.6ghz.

They really need to stop screwing around and provide some information.

“GPU: GTX 460 or an equivalent 1 GB VRAM card”

BUT IT DOESNT HAVE 4GB OF VRAM???

Anyway long story short they dont know wtf they talking about, i dont know if the japanesse developers have hard time communicating the requirments or the guy in charge does a bad job putting them up.

Hopefully nvidia saves us with their drivers.

I dont know about amd, they dont seem to mention it anywhere does that mean amd is not supported?

    ????

LOL i bet it will use only 3 cores.

Why should i buy a game that i dont even know if it will run at all? Seriously bethesda wtf?

    1. Let’s see what John has to say about it in his performance analysis of the game when it comes out, until then don’t believe them as usual and take it with a pinch of salt.

i7’s only have more cache and hyperthreading so I fail to see why they’re even recommending an i7.

      1. I think i get it, they took idtech 5 a opengl engine, that dosent have a concept of lighting and shadows thats why rage and wolfenstein dont have a flashlight or any lights casting shadows, and they added a lighting system with dynamic shadows and ambient occlusion.

So the engine is way beyond what it can take at this point.

  5. What’s going on with Bethesda ? It’s either they are saving their a**es with vague requirements/high requirements (like Ubicrap with Hype_Dogs) or they don’t know jack s**t what they are talking about. Which baffles me coz they have been publishing PC games for a long time

  6. What do they mean by i7? 6 years old i7 920? i guess so. Because only a noob would pair that GTX 460 with an i7 4790k for example. That’s just pointless.

      1. Indeed. I still use my old I7-920 on what is still my 2008 gaming PC, and paired with a r9-270, it is more than suitable for 99% of new games. But there are now i3’s that annihilate my i7 in overall performance, and by lightyears in individual threaded performance.

        It’s bizarre requirements for sure.

  7. cmon guys, the first i7 processors came out in 2008, 2nd generation of i5 is better than the first generation of i7’s

      1. requieremrnts in pc are like this: i7 means first generation, when they say 2500k, or 3500k then you knokw they are talking bout sandy or ivy bridges. i7 means first generation, not that hard figure out, you obviously do not look at system requirements very often.

          1. Even first generation i7’s were quad core. My old i7-920 is more than capable of playing any game on the market, at least at 1080p. It’s the GPU that matters, but they just want to know your system has some power. Like, not dual core.

        1. also its because i do look system requirments often that i know that these requirments are insane and extremely vague.

  8. Wow. When i saw “min pc req revealed” i knew there was some kind of joke to be had.. and i wasn’t wrong. 😀 i7 being the min, for a game that doesn’t even look good in the first place? PLEASE!

  9. this game asks for too much from us considering what it gives us, i have a feeling it will suck. i7 minimum, F’ you, it’s like they are taking us for fools. How the hell do you make a game and post minimum req for it showing that only the top of the line cpu from intel can run it, MINIMUM. What are those people with i5 i3 whatever supposed to think ? I hope this game flops because it pisses me off just from it’s trailers and high demands.

    1. its an i7 first generation, a 920 i7 is much much worse than a sandy bridge i5, or i5 ivy bridge. lay off the crack, if you dont have a better cpu at this time and age than a 6 year old cpu, then go back to last gen. this is a s**t requirement, its nothing. its not even asking for antyhing.

  10. see the problem is not that it asks too much, but that ti doesnt give clear information, the requirments are nonsense. First they say 4gb vram then they pick a old 1gb card.

    What about amd?

Its just nonsense, i cant really go buy a game that i have no clue if its going to run on my pc. I predict and uber crappy port.

  11. no man, it’s not a first gen i7, it doesn’t say that, you say that to justify their incompetent posting. Everybody in 2014 who reads i7 is going to think about a i7 on the market today, not the first one ever released. Why should we think about the first gen, why would we think that ? Do you live in 2008 ? What good is saying i7 and then expecting us to think about the first gen one that right now let’s say is below a decent i3 ? Why not simply say core i5 x model or equivalent.

    1. good lord son, why dont u go read other ccsystem requirements and see how they specify sandy, ivy or haswell. not that hard to figure out. this is a first gen i7, a sh*t processor from 6 years ago. i7 first gen is still decent, my point here is ARE YOU REALLY EXPECTING DUAL CORE system requirements? how stupid do you have to be to expect that kind of sh*t my god. i7 first gen makes perfect sense, yes, lets put a haswell with a 460, bottlenecking our pc to the extreme. jesus man…

  12. So after seeing the minimum requirements I decided to download The Evil Within demo and see what happens. The PC test is with an I5-4590 and an R9 280x GPU. After installing the game I entered the options and set the game to 60 fps with all other settings maxed out. I also installed MSI Afterburner so I could get see my frame rates and CPU usage. Playing the game is extremely smooth at 1080p and the CPU cores seem to vary between 17 and 40 percent while the frame rate never dips below 59 point something. I think the “I7 with 4+ cores” requirement is just the safest thing for them to say, since some I5 CPUs are really just hyper-threaded dual cores and will not be able to run game. My I5 PC is hardly taxed while playing the game, the GPU fans don’t even spin up as high as they do on Metro 2033. I have also compared Star Citizen with an AMD FX 6300 (6 real cores) and an I7 while running after burner and noticed that Star Citizen utilized only the 4 cores of the I7 and none of the virtual cores, while all of FX cores were utilized. My thought is that most games do not use the virtual cores. Thus if you make an i7 a requirement you can legally be safe that consumers are required to have 4 real cores.
