The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson: “Gears of War was a port but Ultimate Edition won’t be”

During PC Gaming’s E3 2015 conference, The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson revealed that the Ultimate Edition of Gears of War will be coming to the PC. And today, Fergusson told NVIDIA that this version won’t be a straight port of the Xbox One version. Also, Fergusson admitted that the PC version of the first Gears of War was just a port of the X360 version (thanks God it was not locked at 30fps).

As Fergusson told NVIDIA:

“In 2007 we released the PC version of Gears of War 1. And really it was a port. That’s not the case with the Ultimate Edition. It’s not a straight port. It’s actually taking all that power, using the power of the Xbox, getting 4K resolution which I’ve seen and looks amazing.”

PC gamers can expect better mouse+keyboard controls this time around, as well as support for 4K resolutions. The game will be exclusive to Windows 10 as it will be a DX12-only title.

The fact that The Coalition is working with NVIDIA could mean that some specific NVIDIA features will be revealed at later (or at least that’s our guess).

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. Frikking great, every damn upcoming games these days nVidia have there hands on.
Just like Johny says about moders, I say the same about nVidia “You Just Gotta Love Em” 😉

Cant wait to next year to build a great gaming comp with nVidia pascal with HBM 2 memory, bring it tha F*CK on!

Even one sometimes can be fed up with nVidia, you just cant be without them, they rules, simply as that!

    1. yesterday i was watching a new Sniper Ghost Warrior trailer and at the end of trailer there was a GFWL logo. i mean WTF?

      1. so desperate. they are not gonna sell that much anyway. there was this old Sniper game called I.G.I i think that i used to play. these new sniper games probably aren’t that much different from them except for graphics lol. hopefully i am wrong though cause i would love to play some Sniper game with new ideas.

      2. I’m not sure but I think Games for Windows is different from Games from Windows Live. GFWL needs to have the LIVE at the bottom I think. Then again, Games for Windows was meant to have ceased operating in 2013, so something is up..

      3. Games for Windows means its certified by Microsoft to work on Windows and has nothing to do with the Games for Windows Live branding.

  2. Just cant get excited for a game that was sh*t 8 years ago. I just don’t care about sh**ty console games on Windows 10, I really don’t.

  3. Now all we need is for all the self entitled pirates ( I won’t call them PC gamers as they are more like parasites) to torrent the sh*t out of the game and totally sink Microsoft’s PC support before it even starts. You know , it would be funny if we could know all the people who just torrent everything that cry about Microsoft not bringing this to PC or doing that for PC. I know this post is off topic but already on PC gamer the self entitled tw@ts are droning on about how it’s not Halo or how they already played eh torented Gears 1 so they are going to torrent this game because….ahem they didn’t “want” this game.

It’s really quite simple, if we want developers to support our platform then we need to buy games, or we can just buy a PC to play sh*t free to play games. The only reason that PC is making a revival is because more people are buying games, torrent numbers haven’t dropped but more people are buying games and it would be horribly depressing to think it’s the influx of new PC gamers who are ex console gamers that have brought up from it’s a*s when every major games website was either asking if PC gaming was dead or laughing at how sh*t PC gaming had become.

I feel strongly about this subject as I love gaming on PC , so much so that if I knew for a fact those horrible obnoxious little sh*ts who drone on about peasants all the time were the same parasites who steal all their games and never pay for them I would be wishing for them to have a bad accident

  4. Why wouldn’t it be a port? They’re console games. Unless they’re remaking all three Gears of War games for the PC, then it’ll definitely be a port.

    1. i don’t get it either. unless they release Master Chief Collection or all of Gears o Wars games not many gonna just move to Win 10 for a game.

          1. The window to upgrade is free for a year. Upgrading within that time gives you a permanent W10 key.

        1. that’s why i said the word “JUST” meaning people that aren’t gonna move to Win 10 any time soon, won’t because of a GoW remaster.

      1. So far they are releasing: Fable legends Killer instint gears of war 1 remake and that new pirate game, Also while not officaly confrimed heavily hinted: Halo master chief collection. These makes them 4 confirmed games +2 rumored= 6 dx 12 only games. Now add to that the pc versions of all multiplatform games that will get dx 12 support (Deus ex DOOM Batman Witcher 3 e.t.c.) and there will be lot of reason to move to windows 10 I am buying windows 10 day one of release and also pirate gear of wars and halo collection day one of their reelase! The only thing iam getting worried if iam getting force to upgrade my pc too soon as it was September 2014 when i did last upgrade and got 970 g1 gaming to replace 560 ti.

Dude, be careful with your punctuation ;). By reading your comment, I get the impression that you are going to pirate Gears of War and Halo Collection on day one of their release.

      2. You must be kidding right?. Most enthusiastic PC gamers with nice hardware are chomping at the bit to get Windows 10 with all the lovely Directx12 improvements that will bring to games. If you have Windows 7 or 8 then Windows 10 is a free upgrade . Anyone with an operating system older than Windows 7 aka a nearly 10 years old OS really should be upgrading and paying for it by now anyway, I mean come on how long do you expect them to support an OS spending money supporting it when it was a one off payment from nearly a decade ago?.

The reality is that if you have Directx11 hardware then you would have needed to upgrade to Windows 7 to play DX11 games so Windows 10 is a free upgrade. If you are running on an older operating system then chances are you need a whole new PC as the hardware won’t benefit from new DX12 API.

    2. Because it only runs on DX12. DX12 is only released on Windows 10. Therefore this game only runs on Windows 10.

        1. They can’t make DX12 for Windows 7 and 8. What are you worried about anyway as it’s a free upgrade to Windows 10 for all Windows 7+8 users?. Don’t tell me you are running a pirated version of Windows 7 or 8?. If so I don’t really think they will care about you as paying customers are all that’s important and if you are a paying customer you will get a free upgrade to a new and improved operating system and a DX12 game that isn’t riddled with bug and performance issues as it’s kept up to date with patches and online support.

          1. How do you know they can’t make dx12 for win7 and 8?
You play i know everything or what!!! you know nothing so plz stop.

          2. Well of course the can’t make DX12 for Windows 7 or 8 , you want to know how I know?. Because they are going to the trouble of giving away their new operating system for free to every PC gamer just so everyone has Directx12 at the same time. If you used some logic and common sense you would realise this as well. They want everyone on Directx 12 at the same time so if Windows 7 or 8 could support DX12 then it would be supported instead of going to the trouble of losing money by giving away a whole new OS for nothing. See quite simple isn’t it?.

If you don’t have Windows 7 or 8 then you aren’t really the person who would benefit from DX12 anyway because everyone has needed at least Windows 7 , you know a 6 years old OS just so they can play Directx11 only titles of which there have been 100’s over the last few years so if you haven’t upgraded to Windows 7 to take advantage of DX11 hardware it most likely means you don’t have DX11 hardware so would get fcuk all from DX12 anyway…….

        2. Do you own a genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8 ? (OEM or retail)
Yes ? You get windows 10 for free in july.
No ? what are you doing ? Still running windows vista ?

          1. Why would they make a directx 12 for windows 7 and 8 when every genuine 7 & 8 will get a free upgrade to windows 10 ?

    3. You cant win this fight, guess I had to upgrade from WIndows XP to 7 when I bought Battlefield 3.

      1. How is it Halo 2 all over again?. The sad reality is that if you want progress and better looking/performing games some times you need to put your hand in your pocket and upgrade. If you don’t buy a new operating system then stagnation sets in. If you don’t buy your games and torrent them then you get shitty end of the stick with quick and dirty consLOL ports like Saints Row2.

Windows 10 is a free upgrade for anyone using Windows 7 or 8 which means people with a 6 years old operating system will still get a free upgrade to Windows 10. Directx12 API has been the biggest, most positive software upgrade that’s happened to PC gaming in the last 6 years that I have been a PC gamer and you are complaining that it takes a free upgrade to Windows 10 to be able to take advantage of it?.

Now I don’t intend to be sound like a dick here but if you are running an operating system that’s older than Windows 7 then you likely don’t have a decent PC or spend much money on games so they aren’t really going to care about the needs of people like this. If you have Windows 7 which you at least should have then you get a free upgrade so I don’t see how that’s relevant to Halo2?

Yes they did attempt to use Halo2 to get gamers to upgrade but they were trying to lead with the carrot rather than the stick

  5. If they don’t follow it up by Gears 2 and 3 (I’ll pass on Judgement) I don’t see the point of this.

    1. They will be crazy to not release it on steam. 90+% of evry pc version sales are coming from steam. They released fable 3 on steam so why not this too?

  6. Seems like it will be first DX12 game. Right? Let hope that my 970 can make full use of dx 12 features.

  7. Same i played it on day one of release on 2007 and enjoyed it nut i am not buying a second time. The only reason will play it again is because i want to see it how much better it will look with today graphics. Becauce the Athlon x2+ 8800 gt that i played it on 2007 does not compared to the 2500k and 970 G1 GAMING that i have as now because the graphics on this pc is + 1000 times better than on the 2007 pc that ihad and played it on then.

  8. So far they are releasing: Fable legends Killer instint gears of war 1
remake and that new pirate game, Also while not officaly confrimed
heavily hinted: Halo master chief collection. These makes them 4
confirmed games +2 rumored= 6 dx 12 only games. Now add to that the pc
versions of all multiplatform games that will get dx 12 support (Deus ex
DOOM Batman Witcher 3 e.t.c.) and there will be lot of reason to move
to windows 10 I am buying windows 10 day one of release and also pirate
gear of wars and halo collection day one of their reelase! The only
thing iam getting worried if iam getting force to upgrade my pc too soon
as it was September 2014 when i did last upgrade and got 970 g1 gaming
    to replace 560 ti.

  9. Does anyone really need this game ? what we need is ultimate editions of GOW 2 and 3. Poor attempt to impress PC gamers.

  10. if they adjust the difficulty settings and make it more like gears of war 3 that would be great.
Enemies in Gears of war 1 are just ammo sponge, you have to shoot to mag of 60 round to kill them, or maybe more but it was definitely too much, the game just become a chore to play through on higher difficulties because of this.

  11. gears of war 3 was the best one out of the series I’m not wasting my money on a game that I played 10 years ago on my 360

  12. Microsoft states…“Anyone with a qualified device can upgrade to Windows 10, including those with pirated copies of Windows.”

That’s right, even if your copy of Windows 7 or 8 is illegitimate, you are still able to upgrade to a copy of Windows 10 for free. to be quite ownest iam all for dx12 exclusive to get best optimisation across the field for most efficient api rather then spliting support dx11+12 for this reason

DirectX 11: Your CPU communicates to the GPU 1 core to 1 core at a time. It is still a big boost over DirectX 9 where only 1 dedicated thread was allowed to talk to the GPU but it’s still only scratching the surface.

DirectX 12: Every core can talk to the GPU at the same time and, depending on the driver, I could theoretically start taking control and talking to all those cores.

sounds promising yet only time will tell …

      1. no you can always just upgrade but its best to do a clean install of windows to clear the registry/drivers from previous versions all you need is windows 10 app and click upgrade when available . I am a legit user genuine copy and that is the process if you own a copy of windows 8/8.1
