Team Ninja announces the end of Dead or Alive 5, will move on to other projects

A few days ago, Team Ninja hinted at some big news regarding the Dead or Alive series. And during the Northeast Championship 18 event, the team announced the end of Dead or Alive 5. As such, Team Ninja will be no longer supporting this fighting game and will move on to other projects.

As Team Ninja’s brand manager said:

“Dead or Alive 5 has finally come to an end, but the Dead or Alive team is very active. Looking forward, I hope you’ll continue to support Dead or Alive.”

Game director Yohei Shimbori added:

“At last, DOA5 has become a game worthy of tournaments such as this one (Battle Royal). It’s been 5 years, yet you are still playing it, our tournaments get better each time, new champions emerge, and our community continues to expand. Also, the free to play version is also doing well, and we created so much DLC that the sheer amount would be worthy of the Guinness Book of World Records. However, it is time to stop what we are doing for now and look into the future, which means we may not be around for some time… but we are very much looking forward to seeing you again someday.”

Our guess is that this is a prank from Team Ninja (unless it truly believes that its DLC should be included in the Guinness Book of World Records). There has been a lot of speculation about a new Dead or Alive game, Dead or Alive 6, so the termination of Dead or Alive 5 could mean that the team is ready to unveil this next part. This is mere speculation though and nothing more.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on Team Ninja’s future projects. Until then, here is the farewell video for Dead or Alive 5!

    1. Not even a PS3 port. The PS3 version had the whatever the skin engine is called. PC release was a port of the 360 version.

  1. Did not the President of Team Ninja threaten the PC community by saying that because of the mods the future DOA games would not appear in it?

    1. No, the original issue was regarding nude mods and not modding in general. Also there was no “threat” made. You might want to Google for information regarding it.

      1. DSOG February 2015:
“the developers have requested that modders on PC to be “Good and Moral”
with their mods. Otherwise they won’t be releasing any more games on PC.”

Sounds exactly like a threat, to me

        1. I didn’t realize “requests” qualified as threats these days. Well, maybe not a request per se… perhaps an offhanded casual warning. But threat? Either people have become thin-skinned, or maybe I’m old-fashioned. And yes I have read that article.

          1. Did you pick that term up while casually surfing 4chan, Junior? I think it’s cute. Now you’ll probably start forming your first sentences with terms like “SJW pandering” and “virtue signalling”. I can’t wait!

        1. Err… are you agreeing or disagreeing with me? Can’t tell because you upvoted my comment, yet your own comment seems to be contradictory.

  2. Team Ninja should just cut the sh## and just make a DOA VR “adult” game. That’s what this is all leading to anyways. Stop beating around the bush and just slide it in already.

    1. “Guess they finally gave up on trying to make revenue off DOA5 DLC outfits.”

lol are you serious? they made TONS of money from idiots who buy all the costumes to jerk off to. its not like they are removing the dlc, it will continue to generate them very high amounts of revenue.

    2. If they had priced them reasonably, the way they are available on XBL and PSN, they would have. The way they priced the DLC and bundled it on Steam was asinine. You had no choice but to buy arbitrary bundles of outfit DLC together – some were $30, some were $60, some were $50, but none of it was ever 1 release at a time like the halloween packs etc. were on console.
