Steam has just set a new record of concurrent players. Earlier today, Valve’s service passed over 42 million concurrent players. To be more precise, it hit 42,042,778 concurrent players. This right here shows why a lot of publishers want their games on Steam.
We last reported on Steam’s concurrent players back in March 2025. Back then, Steam passed over 40 million concurrent players. Now I don’t know why we skipped its 40 million goal. But here we are now in 2026 with Steam setting a brand new record.
Let’s now take a look at the Top 20 Most Played Games in the last 24 hours.
The most played game right now is Counter-Strike 2, followed by DOTA 2. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is in third place, followed by ARC Raiders and Apex Legends. Rust is in sixth place, and Bongo Cat is in seventh place. Bongo Cat is a free game in which every time you press a key, Bongo Cat will punch your taskbar. Players will collect points to unlock hats.
Stardew Valley is in tenth place, followed by Delta Force and Grand Theft Auto 5. Both the Legacy and the Enhanced Editions of GTA 5 are in the Top 20 chart. This is solid proof of why GTA 6 will eventually come to PC. There is a huge PC market for GTA. And, despite the way Rockstar and Take-Two have been treating PC gamers, GTA 6 will be a huge commercial hit on PC whenever it comes out.
In the fourteenth place, we find Baldur’s Gate 3. Warframe and Battlefield 6 are in the fifteenth and sixteenth places, respectively. And finally, in the last four places, we find Geometry Dash, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and War Thunder.
So, there you have it, everyone. Steam is constantly growing, and from what we’ve seen, it has not yet reached its ceiling. Now, I won’t insert any Half-Life 3 joke in this story. I’m saving it for when Valve reveals the release date and price of the Steam Machine.

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
