Jon Hare has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the spiritual successor to Sensible Soccer, Sociable Soccer. Sociable Soccer is described as an instantly playable football game for football fans all over the World, designed and directed by Jon Hare himself.
As the press release reads, the game will be crafted with the same meticulous attention to detail as the very finest Sensible Software titles, to deliver a peerless gameplay experience across all platforms.
John Hare said:
“A community of approximately 20 million fans worldwide have played the soccer games I have designed. I’m thrilled to return to the genre and look forward to delivering a game which once again raises the bar the soccer videogames.”
Sociable Soccer will bring fast paced, arcade style football games up to date with online multiplayer mode, customisable player avatars, and clan based online leagues . The game will feature over 500 National, Club and Custom teams including over 10,000 named players. You can play online multiplayer matches whenever you want, representing your own Country, favourite Club or chosen Clan in an endless series of matches.
The game will be developed, under Jon Hare’s guidance, by a crack team of triple-A developers previously involved in creating games like Max Payne, Alan Wake and The Walking Dead: No Man’s Land.
John Hare added:
“For years I have been planning the spiritual successor to Sensible Soccer. Competing with FIFA and Pro Evo requires much more than just a remake, it needs a different take on football games altogether, blending the instant playability of yesteryear with the power of modern technology.”
The team is looking to raise £300,000 on Kickstarter to create Sociable Soccer, and is offering a range of rewards to backers, including: early beta access, chances to create permanent Custom teams, having your name in the credits as a supporter of your favourite club and the opportunity to jump into a Finnish ice lake with Jon Hare and the Sociable Soccer team.
Sociable Soccer will be released for PC (including Steam), Xbox One and Playstation 4 in late 2016. An exclusive early access beta version of the game (downloadable on PC) will be distributed to all backers who pledge £30 and above one month prior to general release.
Enjoy!

Oh my! 😀
I like this guy but I don’t think many people will choose such a simple game without licenses when they have AAA football games with player bases developed for many years.
But the thing is, this game isn’t for this specific player base (I assume).
It’s more laid back, arcade, casual. 🙂
Yeah but FIFA is already arcade and casual. It’s not like with racing games where you can make things ultra hard for laypeople.
I wish him the best though.
FIFA is arcade? o.O
Well, it certainly feels more simulated, especially if compared to this. 🙂
Yeah but I mean FIFA isn’t rather a game for hardcore players.
It already has a huge fanbase of people, there are children playing FIFA as well as adults.
For that reason, I can’t see many people transitioning to a game like this…
But like I’ve said, this isn’t for the people that are into FIFA/PES.
Those game are waaaay to hardcore in comparison, this are for people that just want to get a kick out of it (heh).
You never played Sensible Soccer, did you?
I haven’t but I know it.
I think those old football games looked like that because of weak hardware. If the hardware had been better then they would’ve gone full FIFA.
Uh, FIFA and Sensible Soccer were released almost at the same time…
Yup and they both had we know what graphics because hardware was too weak back then.
My wording was misleading, by saying “gone full FIFA” I meant 3D graphics with various cameras, like in contemporary FIFA games. I believe Sensible Soccer’s as well FIFA’s devs wished their games were indiscernible from TV transmission but sorry, hardware was too poor to render it.
But now nothing stops them and this retro appearance looks kinda weird.
PS I’m not sure what’s discussion about at the moment :(.
The discussion is about you not realizing that graphics aside, FIFA and Sensible Soccer are widely different kind of games, and it has nothing to do about ‘hardware limitations’ but different design choices.
My bad, I searched for Sensible Soccer images and saw 3D people that seemed realistic. That made me think devs were going for realism at some point. But no, they are all simplified or cartoonish. So yeah, I see this now…
I wonder how many people played Captain Majid (aka Captain Tsubasa), a Soccer game for SNES. It had super powers and stuff. Very fun game from childhood.
Captain Majid? hahah why would they change the main character’s name? I remember watching the cartoons , it was call Footballista (footballers) in my country. the game was pretty bad
Arabic version had improvements and they changed the name too after localization. You could see enemies on map, which helped a lot. It had different art direction too. I liked it… (I don’t know Arabic but got used to the game anyway)
idk which one you played but the one I played on sega was all japanese so I didnt understand any of it
