  1. What makes this different from every other grind-fest time sink known as MMOs? Anything?

    1. Good question, id like to know this too. I want to get back into an MMO but every time I do I end up getting tired of the hand holding and bored of the grind and the boring raids in MMOS of today. I was spoiled with Everquest 1 which I played for about 6 years and I cant help use that as a benchmark for all MMOS I play.

    2. That is a pretty prevalent question which is the burning question almost everyone seems to be asking. In a perfect world I would answer with the game having the best content you could believe but in a honest and realistic approach, there isn’t a huge amount to this game that you haven’t already seen before. The game does have a sort of unique storyline in which you become an “Immortal” after dying in a prologue where you are bestowed a gift of great power used to defend people against tyranny and the forces of evil. The story line is cliche, so I’ll try to list out the current features.

      Ascension Atlas:
As you progress through your character, you are able to unlock nodes which grant you new abilities, talents, ultimate abilities and then the final ability to be able to unlock advanced classes. This feature isn’t exactly groundbreaking and although you will find there is an element of a ‘grind fest’ to facilitate unlocking the atlas, it does have some quirks.

      Prestige:
You have no levels, you only have prestige. An analogue representation of your characters development which is increased through upgrading your weapons, accessories, unlocking new nodes and classes from your atlas and increasing your followers through a personal ‘order’.

      Weapons/Armour
There isn’t a set weapon that you want to grind for because it is the better weapon as the weapons for each class do not change. You keep the same weapon but you upgrade the weapons ability. You will never upgrade weapons using valuable resources to then throw it away because you have out leveled it. Weapons are universally based on the characters upgrades and not the weapon itself. The output damage, the critical damage, the bonus damage is defined by the characters upgrades and not the weapon. Weapons do have unique bonuses and do have tiers of rarity but these again are only bonuses.

      God Tier:
This feature has not been added to the game yet but eventually you will be able to unlock incredibly powerful abilities through the form of being a ‘god’.

      Order of Aelion:
This feature is much more than a feature because it defines your character as an immortal and then a god itself. You unlock followers who then turn into missionaries who spread your word by completing quests. This is real time and you do not see the missionary do the quests physically but you can keep track on their progress. They earn experience which equates into them becoming leaders to then recruit more followers to turn them into missionaries.

      Dynamic Combat:
You no longer have static combat where you click on the mob and spam your spells until cooldown. You can chain your combat abilities together, you can move around, dash around, dodge incoming attacks in a dynamic fast paced combat mechanic.

      Classes:
You can change a class at any time, level up that class with your Atlas and then go straight back to your old class on the fly without any limitations. You could be a Paladin in a instance, decide you want your more powerful Cryomancer so you switch to the Cryo and carry on with your instance.

This is only the icing on the cake and there is plenty more to see, experience so come and try it.

  2. I kind of like the Sci-Fi Fantasy setting and gameplay wise it looks quite fun from all the footage. Not going to get the founder’s pack just to play the beta but when its released I will definitely give it a try.

  3. Meh, yet another mmo with “crappy anime design” characters,& kinky schoolgirl gear…
Obsidian you always find a way to surprise me… :/

to quote ???? ?????? from the comments below:
Obsidian, you need to stop making such sh*t

  4. Meh , gonna stick to GW2 for my dose of MMO. This may have good graphics but i don’t have the patience like i used to have to grind for an eternity and wait like 5 years for an MMORPG to get playable.

    1. GW2 is the way to go…paid just 10€ for it in one of those weekends with discounts and the game is amazing in every way possible.
There is no need to play like mad or anything to get a reward…you just play and get constant rewards even for exploring which to me is a great part in open world games.
