SEGA announces a new turn-based historical strategy game, Humankind

During the Gamescom 2019 Opening Night Live event, SEGA revealed a new game. This game, called Humankind, is a turn-based historical strategy game. In order to celebrate this announcement, the publisher released its debut trailer that you can find below.

At first glance, Humankind appears to share similarities with the Total War or the Civilization series. For example, Total War and Humankind have really big character models in their maps. They also appear to look similar (the colour palette for example is similar).

In Humankind, players will re-write the entire narrative of humankind; a convergence of culture, history, and values that allows you to create a civilization that is as unique as you are.

Players will face historical events, lead renowned figures of humankind, and make scientific breakthroughs. Players will also discover the natural wonders of the world or build the most remarkable creations of humankind.

Moreover, each game element will be historically authentic. Thus, players will combine them to build their own vision of the world.

Amplitude Studios is developing Humankind and plans to release it in 2020.

Enjoy!

  1. Joy, yet another turn based strategy game…

I miss the days when RTS was more popular than TBS. Too bad it’s never coming back ever again.

    1. No kidding dude. I’m at the point where I cant stand all of these TB games. drives me absolutely crazy. its like no one knows how to think fast on their feet anymore. I love that kind of challenge. its whats drives me.

      1. It’s what drives me, as well as having a love for big maps, massive armies and generally having a great degrees of control over what you do, without constant pausing or turn taking.

      2. Turn based strategy vs real time strategy have absolutely nothing to do with ‘fast thinking’. They are totally different types of games.

      1. I can get that, but there are some really fine, masterful wine artisans out there, but I still hate wine.

Like, they can be the cream of the crop, and I’m still not going to be happy for them or excited. I just don’t like TBS games at all these days.

I’d absolutely love for the RTS side of the genre to gain more support, care and attention though.

  2. Virtua Cop 4, HOTD 5, Virtua Fighter 6, Virtua Tennis 2020, Crazy Taxi 4, Daytona PC port, Afterburner Climax PC port…

  3. Nice. The Civ series has pretty much dominated the TBS of human civs genre. And while Firaxis does add new features like climate change and espionage with each new release, it’ll be good for them to have another dev doing their own thing in the space.

I liked what Amplitude did with Endless Legend(fantasy) and Endless Space (sci-fi). Looking forward to seeing Amplitude’s take on historical 4x and how it might influence Firaxis to innovate.
