Rockstar has issued an official statement about Take-Two’s C&D letter to the team responsible for the OpenIV mod. According to Rockstar, the OpenIV mod enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience.
Here is the full statement:
“Take-Two’s actions were not specifically targeting single player mods. Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience for everybody. We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community without negatively impacting our players.”
OpenIV was a multi-purpose editor and archive manager for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty city. This tool helped a lot of modders to replace/change textures, shaders and 3D objects.
We’d love Rockstar to give some examples as to how this mod was used to enable malicious mods. Because this statement sounds… well… you know how it sounds!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. “Unfortunately OpenIV enables recent malicious mods that allow harassment of players and interfere with the GTA Online experience” HAHAHAHAHAHA, yes sure T2 it’s not because you want those easy SHARK CARD bucks and not let anyone make a San Andreas Multiplayer like mod.
Yeah Multitheft Auto was something that left them with blood in the eye.
That’s a complete lie since Open IV has absolutely nothing to do with online cheats, those are not made using it, in fact they can’t be.
All the cheats are script base and use a .dll injector.
So Putin, you going back to being Prime Minister for a few years, or you going with a national referendum to get yourself a 3rd term? ;D
Alternatives to microtransactions have been deemed malicious.
What the hell? Wasn’t this mod specifically for single player offline mode as pointed out by mod devs?
Yes it was but apparently other ingenious people are using their tool to hack online and currently GTA Online is making them a lot of money so they have to “protect it”
Open IV is not used to make online cheats, it’s useless for that.
All the cheats are scripts written by people and injected using a different tool.
“We are working to figure out how we can continue to support the creative community”
So they want their own launcher/modding platform so they can make money out of it. oh but don’t worry, it’s not Paid Mods or anything, it’s just a place that they sell mods and ban other mods.
This is how it starts. The coming age where mods are killed and repurposed to be sold as “official mods”.
And people say microtransactions in a videogame it’s not bad thing.
not people, shills…
you wouldn’t know how much control these companies has
on steam forums, on reddit.. even on PCgamer
any negativity is suppressed with either fanboy rage-comments or outright bans
but what they can’t silence is gamer’s determination (voicing their opinion, pirating “illegal” content and using gray markets to punish greedy developers incase piracy isn’t an option)
it’s hard to fight this type of propaganda and be popular, but someone has to do it
Bla bla bla. They still suck.
That doesn’t make sense. OpenIV isn’t used to mod GTA Online. It can’t.
If they cared about players being harassed they should send a C&D letter to Script Hook V which, when modified, allows people to run mods on GTA Online but sadly script hook v is also used for single player mods. It’s a tough thing to fight. Maybe if their anti-cheat wasn’t so bad we wouldn’t be in this position.
So they honestly expect us to believe they had OpenIV taken down because an unspecified number of snowflakes were allegedly offended by the unspecified actions of an unspecified number of people. While then proceeding to slip in mention of GTA Online almost as a secondary less important issue, again, with nothing in the way of specifics having been provided.
It’s hard to avoid the conclusion that,
– their obfuscation is intended to conceal the real reason, i.e. money
– the mention of “harassment” was an instance of virtue signalling, i.e. PR spin intended to make them look good while deflecting attention from the real issue
F*ck outta here Rockstar.
I stopped playing online because of all the hacks/mods i hope they do do something like perma ban overwatch way
First Fallout now this it would seem developers want to control and make money from the once free PC mods. What’s next pay as we play for access to our own games.
they already tried that with ESO
Do you guys smell that? This smells like…BULSHIT!
anyone else smell revenge in the air?
On the bright side though the recent steam reviews are all mostly negative.
