Bethesda has just released the rumored remastered version of Quake 2. Simply titled Quake II 2023, this remaster features the base game as well as its Mission Packs, The Reckoning and Ground Zero. Moreover, it includes the Nintendo 64 version of Quake 2, a version that most PC gamers never experienced.
Quake 2 Remastered features 4K and widescreen resolution support, enhanced models, improved enemy animations and gore, as well as improved and restored AI behaviors. Additionally, this new version of Quake II comes with enhanced cinematics, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, and depth of field. And yes, it also has the original, heavy rock soundtrack by Sonic Mayhem.
MachineGames has also created a new expansion for Quake II Remastered. This new expansion features 28 campaign levels and one multiplayer deathmatch map. Here is the description of this new campaign.
“In the depths of Strogg space lies the Machine, a singularity capable of collapsing the fabric of reality. Fight across time and space to find the Strogg-Maker, destroy it, and change the destiny of man and machine.”
It will be interesting to see whether Quake 2 RTX will be able to run this new version of Quake II. For those unaware, Quake 2 RTX works by selecting and enhancing the game’s PAK file. Thus, if Quake 2 Remastered has its own PAK file, PC gamers might be able to run it via Quake 2 RTX.

Indeed, it’s been rumoured for a while that MachineGames is rebooting Quake with a female protagonist. Knowing that they’re woke Swiss, I fully expect some incredible cringe like Wolfenstein: Youngblood’s story/characters.

whats your opinion on doom eternal ? i personally don’t like the way the combat and movement flow and the arena like level design which makes no actual sense. I played quake 1 enhanced few months ago and i can say that on hard it’s the best shooter of this kind still. No boomer shooter from the last years comes close to be honest, quake is just better. If they were to use the same “levecraftian weirdness ” design for the reboot but make it like doom eternal i would hate it.

Doom Eternal is Bloody hard but f###g Awesome !!!!! it’s a fact, it’s the best fps i’ve ever played since Painkiller released in 2004, but sincerly the gameplay is really Ultra-HardCore ! Too Excessif not everyone will taste it …… it’s meant for HardCore Players , one of the things i hate in Doom Eternal is the massive drop in health bar , even the weakest zombies will hurt you plenty, sometimes you are out of bullets in a FAST FPS ! that’s not tolerated. in this kind of games you don’t have to worry abnout amunition . but what i hate the most is the Fu###g Marauders, they are too hard to kill off even harder than the big bosses !!!!!!!!!!! WTF ……. i hope they make the next DOOM (just a little bit) less Harder but more intensive with new weapons and Monsters.

Just tried it, it’s awesome! The movement is more fluid, it looks great with the new lighting, has new animations for enemies, just a lot of improvements overall!
It’s cool for preservation sake and new players but Q1 >>>> Q2.
This is just a free update for PC gamers who already own the game? What if you own it on CD? Will there be a patch to download?
I own a lot of old games for MSDOS and Windows on DVD, CD, and even some on floppy disk. I don’t want to have to repurchase all of them just because publishers today don’t give a sh*t about the copies they sold 20+ years ago.
