Another Metroid 2 Remake feature

Project AM2R – Another Metroid 2 Remake – first full release is now available for download

Metroid fans, here is something special for you today. Project AM2R – or Project Another Metroid 2 Remake – is a free fan-made project that aims to recreate Metroid 2 with updated graphics and gameplay. This project has been under development for quite a while, and its first full release is now available for download.

As the team behind it noted:

“Taking elements from newer Metroid titles: the fast paced gameplay of Metroid: Zero Mission, the atmosphere and solitude of Super Metroid, and adding new game mechanics, AM2R is one of the most ambitious Metroid fan games.”

Here are the key features of Project AM2R:

  • Metroid Zero Mission style gameplay
  • Map system
  • Updated enemy AI
  • Minibosses
  • New areas
  • Challenging Metroid fights
  • Stackable beam system
  • Completely redrawn enemy and Metroid sprites
  • Log system with non-intrusive narrative
  • High quality soundtrack

You can download Project AM2R from here. We strongly suggest downloading this release right now as Nintendo may take it down (once it becomes aware of it).

Have fun!

  1. Almost 10 years now isn’t it? Maybe less but still.
This shows more dedication than Nintendo.

And it is been publicly known for years, if Nintendo takes this down I’m going to swear a lot. >:(
    A LOT YOU HEAR ME?!

    1. I don’t know why people think they can take someone else’s proprietary work and remake it without their permission. If in doubt, always ask the permission of company or author.before you even do anything like this.

      1. They aren’t “taking” it though.

Funnily enough, I’m following some links about Nintendo shutting down some fan made stuff and surprisingly enough, the majority of them seems to be fud. Nintendo and fan games/mods/romhacks seems to be “fine”.
zeldaclassics( . )com is known for eons and Nintendo apparently don’t give two sh*ts about it, neither the mother4 game. 0.o
Provided there isn’t money being made or branding that can be confused as an official product that is.

        1. Doesn’t matter, they should ask Nintendo for permissions, it’s based off their work and it’s Metroid which is proprietary. If the game get’s taken down it’s their own fault.

          1. Chill Sean, as I’ve said, there is statements by Nintendo itself saying it’s all right.

  2. I’ve played a few hours straight and it’s great. It’s so polished that feels like done by Nintendo in the 90s.

The only problem I had was the detection of my Snes gamepad, which I had to use JoyToKey as a workaround. The Xbox One pad works great out of the box, but it doesn’t feel good in this kind of game. Also, I recommend using Reshade with the PixelArt shader for improving the visuals a little bit.

    1. Agreed, the lack of filtering makes this one feels almost too pixelated.

But I’m not too found of scanlines, I’m using the FXAA.

  3. get Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii (i could never finish MP1&2 before on the NGC because of the HORRIBLE controls)

  4. Thank god this didn’t get DMCA’d by Nintendo, as I was fully expecting. Having a lot of fun with it so far.

  5. not 20 minutes before i find out this game exists the download links were taken down by nintendo.

For a video game developer they sure hate fun.
