PNY XLR8 CS3140 M.2 NVMe Gen4

PNY announces its new XLR8 CS3140 M.2 NVMe Gen4 x4 SSD with 7500 MB/s read speeds, fastest SSD on the market

PNY has just revealed what could be the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD currently on the market, the XLR8 CS3140, an M.2 NVMe SSD that’s rated to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 7,500 MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,850 MB/s.

The CS3140 sets new standards that enable 4K and 8K content creators, high-intensive application users, gamers, and others to experience a whole new level of speed, performance, and productivity. The SSD features support for the latest NVMe Gen 4.0 protocol, thus allowing for quick read and write speeds.

As the product page reads:

“The CS3140 M.2 NVMe Gen4 x4 Solid State Drive is the designed to be the highest performance NVMe Gen4 SSD currently on the market; delivering the extreme performance you demand.

It is the ideal solution for PC enthusiasts, gamers, and video rendering professionals to upgrade to the latest in NVMe technology.

Boot up in seconds; enjoy lightning fast application launches, and incredible system performance. The PNY XLR8 CS3140 is highly durable, less likely to fail, and supports a 5 year warranty.”

The XLR8 CS3140 NVMe SSD is expected to come out in two different versions. These two different versions are the standalone NVMe SSD and an SSD that comes with an included heatsink. The external feature of one of them, designed for desktop computers, is a massive aluminum radiator. The heatsinkless version is intended for laptops. The drive will be available in 1TB and 2 TB capacity sizes starting this month. Prices are not yet known.

Moreover, the XLR8 CS3140 NVMe SSD uses a 12-nanometer manufacturing process, which delivers great power efficiency while providing high speeds as well. Read speeds of 7,500MB/s push the limits of what is possible with the PCIe 4.0 interface within the M.2 form factor, making this SSD one of the fastest possible PCIe 4.0 M.2 drives, at least in terms of sequential read performance.

These faster loading and boot times get PC gamers playing much quicker than 2.5″ SATA drives or Hard Drives. This SSD packs a five-year warranty from PNY. This warranty ensures that the SSD will be a perfect addition to any system.

Product Features:

  • Speed of up to 7,500 MB/s Seq. Read and 6,850 MB/s Seq. Write
  • Enhanced bandwidth that allows for extreme performance and low latency, making it superior to SATA and NVMe Gen 3 based SSDs
  • Extruded Aluminum Heat sink on select models. Lower power consumption that results in greater energy efficiency
  • Greater endurance due to the drive’s ability to withstand extreme conditions and to retain data even when dropped.

Product Specifications:

  • PCIe 4.0 interface (NVMe Gen4 x4), supports NVMe 1.4
  • Form Factor: M.2 2280
  • Speed: up to 7,500 MB/s Read and up to 6,850 MB/s Write (vary by model)
  • Capacities: 1 TB and 2 TB
  • Warranty: 5 Year

Product Availability: The CS3140 will be available at the end of this month.

But most importantly, since this is a PCIe 4.0 SSD, the PNY XLR8 CS3140 should be used on a PC or system which fully supports the PCIe 4.0 Gen connectivity. Which means you should use an AMD system with a compatible Ryzen 3000 or 5000-series processor, or a PC featuring Intel’s upcoming 11th Generation Rocket Lake CPU, to reap out the full benefits.

Please do note that these processors will still need a qualifying motherboard which features proper PCIe 4.0 support. Using this SSD on a PCIe 3.0 system will halve and hamper this SSD’s performance to a much greater extent.
