Last week, we informed you about Paradox increasing the price of its title in a number of regions. And today, Paradox’s CEO announced that its company will roll back all the prices of its titles. Going into more details, all games will roll back to their previous prices once Steam’s Summer Sale is over.
As Fredrik Wester said:
“In regards to the price changes you are absolutely right. You deserve more transparency and better communication from Paradox when it comes to changing of our prices and pricing policy. Therefore I have decided to roll back all price changes made; any price changes will have to be for future products well communicated in advance. I just came off the phone with Steam and they say we can’t do the roll-back before the Summer Sale is over (otherwise it would mean we have to take all Paradox products off the summer sale) but it will be done right after. For anyone who bought any of the games during this time (including during the summer sale) we will try to refund (if possible in the Steam platform) or reimburse with games of a value exceeding the difference. If none of this is possible (I do not in detail know the limits to the Steam platform) we will internally calculate the difference in revenue before and after the price change, double the value, and donate the money to the UNHCR.”
So there you have it. Paradox listened to its fanbase and will roll back its prices.
Here is hoping that more publishers will follow Paradox’s example and listen to its fans when it comes to this kind of things!

More like you didn’t like the messages you were getting, got caught on the price hike and now you want to get back in those good graces again.
Would it kill you guys to hire a guy for all your game trailers that doesn’t sound so depressed and monotone, bordering robotic?.
WAIT! After the sale, they’ll roll back their prices? Wow, no one could have ever guessed it. Ever!
funny thing is they think they’re so smart and one realizes anything
“all games will roll back to their previous prices once Steam’s Summer Sale is over.”
Seriously you dont even hide the fact you are doing it for the summer sales price to hike up?
Exactly what I was about to say. Now that they got their Summer Sale price hikes, they’re willing to revert?
Yeah, no, f*ck you, Paradox.
Another victory for consumers. Excellent news.
It really isn’t. They hiked the prices for Steam’s Summer Sale. So they could charge more and say “Oh, look at these discounts!”. And they were going to get away with it.
It really is. Read the whole of the article rather than just the headline to discover why.
I did. What are you talking about? All the things they cannot/will not do? Everything was done was on purpose. Most people will not know that. We caused them problems with the reviews, but they still were on the front page, most people will never know, and they’ll still sell a full game for over $250.
They’ve been pulling a EA and only now the consumers reacted on Steam and I bet that, if their sales are affected by it, their next move is to take it to Origin.
I did say “they were going to get away with it”, not “got away with it”. At least, not yet. But the consumer hasn’t won anything yet. Not even their money from the steam sale rip off.
“I just came off the phone with Steam and they say we can’t do the roll-back before the Summer Sale is over (otherwise it would mean we have to take all Paradox products off the summer sale) but it will be done right after.”
That? What, you think they didn’t know about that in advance? Please. This isn’t their first Steam Sale, they know the rules; once you set the price, it doesn’t change. Hell, even I know that, thanks to a leak from a few years ago.
Unless you mean the “we’ll give you your money back” part, in which case; yeah, sure, we’ll see. Either way, why in the f*ck would I want my money going to the UNHCR.
And what money will they donate? No one has official numbers of the sales. We’re supposed to take their word for it? These’s guys “word” is worth less than nothing right now.
This was a scummy move from paradox and another proof that video game industry marketing department doesn’t truly understand the concept of regional price
However, I don’t like the fact that pc gamers trashing well made pc centric games from good developers just because those games unfortunately being under paradox as a publisher and affected by the price hike.
Another one is those who throw some tantrums over games under paradox publishing being accused as overly milking their games with DLCs, that is absurd for various reasons.
They are entitled f’ers who could ruin pc gaming by spreading FUD.
GOG understands regional pricing well. I try to buy my games there whenever possible.
And I agree, those developers are taking the blunt hit because of greedy a$$holes, but you can’t blame PC gamers. PC are not at fault for those developers choices. I did not support IO for what was done to Hitman, but guess what I did yesterday? I bought the game. They fixed it, we get their back. The game isn’t as good as it could have been, but I consider it a down payment for the studio’s next Hitman game.
We’re not inconsiderate, but we don’t (and shouldn’t) take abuses like this as a consumer.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, wow rollback its prices when the sale is over hahahahahahahahahaha
lol
If you can’t roll back the prices before the Sale, just increase the margin of the Sale – from 50% to 65% or whatever so that it reflects the original Sale price + Discount. I think Valve should be able to do that.
According to a leaked form from a couple of years ago, everyone gets an e-mail notification of an impending sale, at which point they’re required to submit what sale % they want each product to go at for the entirety of the sale, as well as what % they want each product to go at during flash sales, as they were still doing those back then.
As a result, the prices aren’t allowed to change during the sale itself.
I read the f*cking text.
