Palworld feature-3

Palworld Surpassed 1 Million Concurrent Players & 3 Million Sales

Palworld, a game by Pocketpair that’s usually described as “Pokemon with guns”, has sold more than three million copies. What’s even cooler is that it now has over one million people playing it at the same time. This just shows how popular and successful the game has quickly become.

Palworld hit Steam Early Access on January 19th. This basically means that it managed to sell over three million units in just two days. That’s huge.

palworld one million concurrent players

What’s also interesting to note is that Palworld is the 2nd game with the most concurrent players in the history of paid games on Steam. For those wondering, the first game is Cyberpunk 2077. However, the gap between CP2077 and Palworld is small. We’re talking about 50K players. So, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Palworld surpassing it in the coming days.

I mentioned it earlier, and it’s worth noting again: lots of people love playing Palworld on their computers. Think of Palworld as a mix of Valheim and Minecraft, but with Pokemon. Sadly, this is a multiplayer-only game. In other words, it doesn’t have a story campaign. This might disappoint some PC gamers. Still, it’s super cool to see how well the game is doing on PC.

Not only that but the game already performs well on PC. Since this is a multiplayer-only game, we won’t have a PC Performance Analysis. However, from what we’ve seen, the game runs well on a wide range of PC configurations. Pocketpair recommends an Intel i9-9900K with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070. So, from the looks of it, you won’t need a high-end PC system.

Palworld is a game about living a slow life with mysterious creatures “Pal” or throwing yourself into life-and-death battles with poachers. Players can make Pals fight, breed, help with farming, or work in factories. Additionally, they can sell them off or even slaughter them to eat. The reason we often describe this game as “Pokemon with guns” is because Pal look exactly the same as Pokemon. In fact, some Pokemon fans got angry over this.

As the developers noted, the game’s core systems, such as monster catching, battles, exploration, building and crafting, are already complete. That’s what the players will be experiencing in its Early Access phase. The Early Access build will also have more than 100 monsters, a vast open world, over 350 items, and more than 70 types of buildings.

So, again, kudos to Pocketpair for releasing a game with such a massive appeal. And let’s hope that they’ll keep working on it after its huge success.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Technically it’s the third. The first place goes to PUBG, which reached 3.2M in 2018 shortly after its release priced at $30.

  2. nintendo clone shovelware, early access as one of the most played games. What a Joke! This almost makes the modern Sony output look good. And them people complain that games nowadays are broken and unoptimized, the irony.

    1. It’s just one more on the pile on Steam. There are around 50,000 games on Steam now and it’s growing by the thousands yearly. One estimate that I read was that it could reach 10,000 new games on Steam this year. I think that estimate is a bit exaggerated though.

      1. yeah and if you go to certain sites you can see the same UE horror game over and over with some minor changes, sim games, exploration games walking sim etc

    2. I mean, I don’t see how this is any more of a clone than Digimon is and that was probably the first IP that borrowed all the main elements from what makes Pokemon so unique. It’s like calling any city-based open-world game a GTA clone or any sci-fi game that uses laser swords a Star Wars ripoff which I think is nonsensical. There’s plenty more room for these kinds of games to exist, especially when Nintendo haven’t been innovating all that much with their own franchise. Since when did they ever make a survival game with that IP? Or an MMO like Temtem?

It’s clear that there’s a market for a game like Palworld so why bother getting flustered by it? I don’t understand the hype surrounding games like Fortnite and how it made Unreal Tournament irrelevant but it is what it is.

      1. “I don’t understand the hype surrounding games like Fortnite and how it made Unreal Tournament irrelevant but it is what it is.”

You answered your own question, a game become such a massive success it basically kill your side project, i’m not even mad at the game itself, just the mindless drones rushing to buy a Early Acess game and setting a new trend for stupid things to come.

        1. Just because Fortnite became a success doesn’t mean they have to act like as if Unreal Tournament never existed. It’s just typical corporate behaviour but I just moved on and will continue to hope that another franchise will take its place someday. Couldn’t care less if any game tries so hard to be like UT at this point since Epic would rather make it a thing of the past and currently there is nothing else quite like it being sold in the market.

I do agree that people are mindlessly buying this game without making any informed decisions but that’s kinda always been the case, especially from the moment gaming became mainstream. All the imitators who will attempt to cash in on this game’s success will eventually appear regardless of how decent or unoriginal the game may be to some. I’ve been seeing a whole lot of Breath of the Wild clones: some that are good and others that are straight up terrible. Anything that becomes super popular will automatically start a trend of uninspired clones. I hate it just as much as the next guy but I’m also aware that it’s something that we just have to get used to seeing from now on.

          1. Well said. I recall Tim Sweeney saying years ago in an interview that there would never be another Unreal game. I don’t recall everything he said then but it left me with the impression that he was fed up with Unreal games.

It’s a shame that there will never be another game like the first Unreal from Epic.

I’m replaying the first Deus Ex right now. Such a great classic. I wonder if the gaming industry in it’s present shape could even make such great games anymore.

          2. If he truly said that then it pretty much seals the deal on why nobody should expect anything to come from these legacy IPs owned by some of these corporations since they all share the same ideals. It’s also aided by the fact that people have been expressing this notion that games dealing with edgy characters and bleak dystopian worlds are outdated concepts. Which doesn’t really make a whole lot of sense because that same rhetoric can be applied to any other theme that has been around for just as long but continue to thrive. And then there’s politics and all that nonsense which has destroyed the very essence of artistic freedom at the highest level.

We can only expect spiritual successors to games like Deus Ex (e.g. Core Decay) and Unreal to come from the indie and AA space to fill that void which these billion dollar companies clearly do not care about. A lot of it is dependent on the support from the community so if nobody bothers to buy these games then the whole industry will continue to remain stale with a bunch of trendy and unimaginative titles.

I get it when people feel that certain new IPs don’t feel wholly original but if it’s something that’s actually decent yet heavily inspired by something else that hasn’t had a new entry in many years then it’s better than nothing in my opinion.

  3. certainly like your website but you need to take a look at the spelling on quite a few of your posts Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very troublesome to inform the reality nevertheless I will definitely come back again

  4. “recommends an Intel i9-9900K”
WHAT? That’s insane, why would you need a former high end CPU for this game? That CPU is as young as the RTX 2070 they recommend, which is also questionable by the way. These are crazy requirements for a run of the mill UE4 game with fairly empty landscapes.
Hardware improvements have slowed to a crawl over the last decade. 2018’s high end, launching at 500 dollars back then, is still today’s midrange. So what they are really saying is you need midrange hardware to run this mobile looking game.

  5. Its like you read my mind You appear to know so much about this like you wrote the book in it or something I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a little bit but other than that this is fantastic blog A great read Ill certainly be back

  6. People complain about generic games that require overpriced hardware to play, mtx abuse, rentware and such but then they forget that in a time when it’s all about the profit and quarterly reports, earnings, aka when/the timing you can report the profit to jewce your stock prices etc that gamers who go for stuff like this are the drivers of it. Pinheads who get sucked in by the machine. And just like always a hard press by the machine is hyping this garbage, johnnyboy here doing the same thing for the revenue in whatever form it comes, ads, tech, google seo payola hits, etc Does an online only game fit here? Nope. The payola above all else. More spreading going on there, moneys on the table deary.

They are going to minimize costs so this is an AI generated game with some touches by as small a team as possible. EA is also a way to say well just wait till next week it’ll come out with the next shiny thing! Don’t refund! Drug batches eat that up and roll over spread’em. Just like sports ENTERTAINMENT this can all be arranged and jewced including sales numbers, reviews, etc for the business.

  7. Palworld is an instant hit, in just a matter of hours it became the most played game on Twitch. Which is insane for a game only available on PC/Xbox.

Why did it take so long before we are finally seeing Pokemon clones and Switch alternatives. Was every CEO asleep or something the last decade. I bet they’re suddenly awake now that this game is getting millions of players overnight and it’s eating into their franchises.

    1. Someone creates a sucessful game that breaks the Nintendo containment garden (like for example, plenty of mario clones but none are as sucessful), and here comes the speculation about the incoming army of clones.

  8. Sad sick world unfortunately. A trash low effort early access game bringing in millions. As if the huge amount of asian garbage MMO’s released daily isnt’t enough. And ppl wonder why barely any big publisher dares to try something new, invest more money, etc.

Anyone remembers the days when each year bring quality triple AAA games? yeah

    1. Please, if you know any other base building game that takes a casual approach with npc helpers that can actually take care of themselves, as well a tamer aspect, share with us.

Else I suggest you go back the hole you crawled from, since the problem with the industry is people like you.

This game actually tried to innovate and integrate aspects that are not covered by any other game in this genre.

Besides that, is indeed early access trash and their roadmap doesn’t look enticing at all, is clear the developers lack focus and are going to either drop this midway or ruin it, instead of using it as base to make something actually good.

  9. I was suggested this web site by my cousin Im not sure whether this post is written by him as no one else know such detailed about my trouble You are incredible Thanks

  10. LOL it’s clear from the comments that no one here has actually tried the game (it’s very good), but that hardly stops them from being angry about it. This isn’t the “dark side of gaming”. It’s where toxic little cartoon-type gamers hang out while steam comically pours out their ears.
