Painkiller Remake Is Coming to PC on October 9th

Anshar Studios and Saber Interactive have announced that their new Painkiller will be released on October 9th. This is a modern remake of the classic action game and will include co-op gameplay. To celebrate, they also released a new trailer you can watch below.

In this remake, players can use powerful demon weapons to fight off endless waves of monsters. They will be able to battle these enemies alone or with friends.

Players will be able to jump, dash, and hook across vast biomes while fighting enemies with a host of new and classic Painkiller weapons. The tarot cards will also return. By using them, you will be able to enhance your abilities and combine them with other players to obliterate your foes.

The game will have four distinctive characters. These are Ink, Void, Sol and Roch. Each of them will have unique perks to boost their energy, health, power and damage.

Now I know that some may be put off by the focus on the co-op mode. However, I’ll give Saber and Anshar Studios the benefit of the doubt. At least for now.

Saber Interactive has not yet revealed the game’s PC requirements. As soon as it does, we’ll be sure to share them with you. Until then, you can watch its latest trailer.

Enjoy!

  1. This isn't a remake, it's a stupid re-imagining made specifically for co-op rather than anything else just to gather all the Alpha Gen kiddies who only play online MP "games" like Fortnite, Overwatch, League of Legends, etc. and then call themselves "gamers". Saber never even claimed this to be a "remake" in the first place.

Not knowing the difference between re-imaginings, remakes or remasters in 2025 and just slapping whatever term you feel like writing on the article when all of these terms have been around for decades and are already more than obvious what each of them mean by now.

    Gayming journalism at its finest.

    1. It's more than obvious that John claimed it to be a "remake" because you brought the news from Wccftech without even thinking about it, didn't you?

  2. Not only it's a game made specifically with co-op in mind, it sure looks like it's a DEI-infested game too 🤮

      1. Holy hell, that looks like that belongs in Unavowed.😰🤢
Well, this is so annoying to see one of the most badas* games ever turning into an African non-binary wokefest…

  3. What Saber's even doing with Turok and Painkiller?
damn … dont think its by the same Space Marine II design team.

  4. I was hoping for a proper reboot of the original "Painkiller" single player game, and the titles which came after it in this franchise.

But this one just focuses more on cooperative gameplay, with just a 'PAINKILLER" name/badge slapped on it, to create the hype.

Doesn't surprise me though, given the recent craze of online/co-op 'cash cow' titles of the late, with less and less resources focused on making a decent story-driven single player gaming experience.

Few titles these days can match the original 2004 Painkiller game.

    ….

    1. "But this one just focuses more on cooperative gameplay, with just a 'PAINKILLER" name/badge slapped on it, to create the hype."
I guess they got the inspiration from Painkiller Overdose but now they add Co-op and few new age sprinkles for kids these days.
Painkiller Black Edition is a classic, you can't beat a classic.

  5. I haven't played the original game, but I remember seeing screenshots and videos of it, and I don't recall such colourful art direction. Was the original game really that colourful, or was the remake simply created with a 'modern audience' in mind?

    1. there were 5 painkiller games.
Look for Painkiller Overdose, looks like the inspiration for this "re-make".
Crazy how people remember only what they want not the full package.
The moment i saw first trailer i knew this is going to be Overdose 2.0 but with co-op.

  6. Looks abysmal.

I absolutely hate how EVERY FPS nowadays is either a so-called "competitive FPS" (a la Fortnite), or a freaking so-called "boomer shooter", which has us faced with thousands of enemies at once, which completely breaks the pace and the atmosphere of the game. Do young gamers really love this? No, seriously?

And all the gigantic blood splatters and massive explosions and blinding lighting effects… ugh… It looks like the developers are constantly vomiting explosive LBGT rainbows on my face. The atmosphere of the original game is completely gone.

And finally, you had to make it woke and replace the buff white guy with non-binary multi-colored freaks who look like they just came out of Unavowed, huh? Really?
I mean, after seeing so many gaming companies literally going bankrupt, after seeing millions of complaints online every time a developer went woke, you STILL chose to be woke. Stunning.

And you DARE to call this a "remake"?
I suggest that we use a new term from now on: "revisionist remake".

    Modern developers are BEYOND RETARDED.

The original game looks a thousand times better.
It's realistic, atmospheric, creepy, it has a soul.
That monstrosity in the trailer only looks like another modern "boomer shooter" clone with LGBT colors.

I have a feeling that modern developers that make "boomer shooters" actually never played a REAL FPS, like the ones we had in the 90s-2000s.
They don't even understand what a FPS is, I think.

    1. Do you know that there were more than 1 Painkiller game?
This remake looks inspired by Painkiller Overdose.

Everybody always says that Half-Life 2 was the best-looking game in 2004.
Well, Painkiller was on the same level.

That 2025 "remake" looks abysmal in comparison.
Just some Unreal Engine 5 assets, looking extremely generic.
Not a single developer nowadays can make a FPS looking remotely as good as what we had 20 years ago. This is the state of gaming in 2025.

  9. Gameplay could be fun (reminds me a bit of Shadow Warrior 3) even if it's painkiller in name only but co-op focus kills it for me.

  10. I was going to purchase this day-one JUST(wont play till 6000 cards) to support the devs, for finally bringing back one of my most nostalgic series. I have fond memories of having to buy a faster Cd-rom drive and GCard just to play….Now I see the skins and….Stronk Blax wahmen with face tattoos in European armor…. SKIP, what painkiller?… everything is poisoned.
