Compusemble tried out a new beta driver from NVIDIA that seems to improve performance in Cyberpunk 2077. But, just so you know, this beta driver isn’t out for everyone to download and try out. Still, the following results are exciting. So, let’s take a look at them.
In order to test this beta driver, Compusemble used an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X with 32GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. They have also used the latest version of Windows 11, as well as Windows 11 Insider Build 26040.
Using the beta driver at 4K with Path Tracing and DLSS Performance Mode, the performance went up by 17-18% on the same operating system. And just to add more excitement, when they turned on DLSS 3 Frame Generation, things got really interesting.
The new beta driver gave a nice 13% performance boost at 4K with Path Tracing and DLSS Performance Mode on Win 11 (23H2). But with the Insider Build, Compusemble got an even better increase of 23%. Even when using NVIDIA’s latest public drivers, the Windows Insider Build still brought a good 7.5% performance boost.
We can expect the enhancements from this beta driver to be part of the next public NVIDIA driver. Or at least that’s the most logical scenario. However, there’s no information yet on when, or if, Microsoft will share the improvements from the Windows Insider Build with the general public. And will these improvements be available exclusively to Win11? Or will we also see them in Win10?
NVIDIA’s ability to boost performance by 17% with a new driver is great news for gamers. We’re curious to see if other popular games will also see such improvements. Do these upgrades only apply to Ray Tracing/Path Tracing games? Or can we anticipate better performance for rasterized titles too? We’ll most likely find out soon.

If you look closely at that side by side comparison (look at the 1:15 mark), there appears to be a fairly vast downgrade to the quality of the ray/path tracing as bounce lighting and shadow edges have a lot of artifacts not present in the older footage.. this is likely where this boost in performance is coming from.

Generally speaking, there’s not a whole lot driver developers can do with low-level APIs like DX12 to improve performance on their side, because most of the burden rests on the shoulders of the game developers themselves.
Major improvements can only be achieved by coming up with new extensions to the API itself, which is one of the reasons why Vulkan keeps advancing swiftly:

As you can see, right now the API is at version 1.3.276, which means that since its initial release in 2016, there have been 276 revisions to the specification, each one intended to make Vulkan a little bit better for everyone.
All you’ve proved is you don’t really know how software versioning works … The only numbers that really count are the first two which are the major revision (1), and the minor revision (3) and the last number is the ***patch*** revision
273 patches and NO major or NO minor revisions in 8 years isn’t really something to brag about because it mean the base code hasn’t even changed enough to warrant a minor revision change
Great point. I first watched this video on my phone but after reading your post I re-watched it on my PC and, YES there is definitely a difference in the IQ of the 550.09 vs. the 551.23 versions. It almost looks like the ray reconstructions is off or at a level not working properly. And I would guess as you have that that is where the difference in performance is coming from.
so no need for this driver update , just lowering the settings will give the exact same results.
So in reality it was 1080p. Meh!

If the choice is a farce and one gets milked by both stackelberg-duopoly companies hard, than the consumer stimply should buy the superior products, and that is factually nvidia’s gpu architecture.
Yes they made my wallet quite fat last year effectively turning a $61,000 into a $250,000
And I’m still sitting on another 500 shares I bought for $61,000 that is today worth $312,325
All of that started with a $2,750 investment in AMD in early 2009 at the height of the GOP Great Recession that I sold in late 2021 for $144,000 re-invested $122,000 into Nvidia in October 2022 (Another market downturn)

No tips, just know what you are investing in. I stick strictly to tech stocks because I’m an electronics engineer so I can’t be bullsh*tted although I almost lost on AMD when they were on the verge of bankruptcy in 2014 but the investment was so small I figured I may as well keep it and hope for a turn around
My first investment was in Microsoft in 91-93 at the behest of my boss who was one of the founders of Gateway Computers (And also gave me the scholarship that made college possible for me) I bought 1000 shares in total for an average cost of about $1.50/share and after 3 stock splits ( giving me 8000 shares) it was worth about $480,000 when I sold it in 2006 which is how I paid off my house, cars and became debt free ever since …. I’ve also been invested in Google since the IPO (I was a beta tester and got a locked in price) I started with 250 shares but after the 2 for one split in 2014 and a 20 to 1 split in 2022 I now have 10,000 shares (Class A non-voting Alphabet)

These system are constructed that the majority always loses money.
I mean I’m no expert, but every legit trading book (which doesn’t lie and tell fable stories about getting rich in few months) makes that clear, that “the financial system are constructed in a way, that the 99 % of users will lose many tens thousands of dollars, before they get any in return, from trading, buying shares etc.”.

This is a unicorn nothing more. If someone had the mythical abc they can get/do xyz 25% better. Ok I can see about 20fps when using all these tricks and assuming this is a base w fg on so 20fps only, not 20fps+fg.
Respectable for just some drivers and such but likely the hassle to get there isn’t worth that and I bet there is also plenty of fine print to deal with. Over 3 years later and huge changes made by cpdr, kinda nonsensically tbh, I’d hope we can get better perf going forward since it’s mostly as stable as it’s ever going to get as a game. I don’ t know if they came out w the new patch or not read it was close, but hopefully the unintended bugs that always come w patches in cpdUrs games are minimal.

The driver I’m waiting for is the one which finally fixes Winshat’s DXGI flip model issue, vsync stuttering and whatelse, where the nvidia developer are too lazy for years (2 is it?) to fix it, which causes quite some people problems.
(I’ve no problem with those though; seems to be varied on OS, programs and hardware).

This driver supposedly comes after this 551 driver (which already adds nice features (hdr rtx super resolution) and other fixes).
The real question here is “Are all these drivers optimizations for 4090 only, or 40xx series only? Will we get them for previous generations?”
