New Windows 10 update KB4489899 addresses the graphics and mouse performance degradation issues

Last week, we informed you about the graphics and mouse performance degradation that was a result of the March 1st KB4482887 update for Windows 10. And today, we are happy to report that Microsoft has released a new update that addresses those issues.

According to its official page, update KB4489899 fixes an issue that may degrade graphics and mouse performance with desktop gaming when playing certain games, such as Destiny 2, after installing KB4482887.

Furthermore, this update also resolves an issue that could cause users to receive “Error 1309” while installing or uninstalling certain types of MSI and MSP files, as well as an issue in Microsoft HoloLens with tracking and device calibration that has affected some users.

This update will be downloaded and installed automatically from Windows Update. To get the standalone package for this update, go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

Enjoy!

    1. I let people in Semi-Channel Updates be the BETA testers. I have mine set to update as late as possible.

  1. I thought I was going crazy there was like this mouse stutter but frames never dipped. I was about to reinstall windows.

  2. Just in time for the Halo Megaton announcements coming in a few hours.

The other Megaton announcement being rumored is that Microsoft is going to allow DX12 on Windows 7.

Edit: DX12 on Windows 7 confirmed.

Edit 2: I think we were all all expecting a Halo MCC Windows Store announcement but few expected a Steam announcement. Also get ****** Epic Games Store.

    1. “The other Megaton announcement being rumored is that Microsoft is going to allow DX12 on Windows 7. “

Indeed. Microsoft’s official BLOG was just updated few hours back, and according to MS, it looks like DirectX 12 has come to Windows 7 OS as well. I’ve informed this to others as well.

Microsoft has ported DirectX 12 to Windows 7 boosting World of Warcraft’s performance, according to the latest news. MS has confirmed that they have ported their DirectX 12 runtime to Windows 7, enabling developers to utilize the company’s low-level API on their legacy operating system.

IMO, this move will allow game developers to offer the benefits of DirectX 12 to users of older operating systems, with the World of Warcraft becoming the first game to benefit from the change with update 8.1.5, which allows the game to use DirectX 12 on Windows 7.

      Taken from their BLOG:

“”At Microsoft, we make every effort to respond to customer feedback, so when we received this feedback from Blizzard and other developers, we decided to act on it. Microsoft is pleased to announce that we have ported the user mode D3D12 runtime to Windows 7. This unblocks developers who want to take full advantage of the latest improvements in D3D12 while still supporting customers on older operating systems.

Today, with game patch 8.1.5 for World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard becomes the first game developer to use DirectX 12 for Windows 7! Now, Windows 7 WoW gamers can run the game using DirectX 12 and enjoy a framerate boost, though the best DirectX 12 performance will always be on Windows 10, since Windows 10 contains a number of OS optimizations designed to make DirectX 12 run even faster””.

    2. I guess that long forgotten Halo 3 Steam database entry made sense and was not a mere placeholder, lol 😀

        1. Yeap, we were aware of it (as well as some other stories that are not live right now but have been scheduled to go live in the next few hours). It was a “Champions League night” tonight so we had to take a break and relax (we aren’t robots after all 😛 )

    1. Considering how my laptop costed 1500$ and came with a tiny 500 gigs drive, yeah. Who has room for updates lol, i got around 100 megs free ;p External drives do help tho so XD

      1. Yup, I think that was the case. On other news, apart from this, according to Microsoft, Windows 10 has been automatically deleting bad updates as well recently.

        Kind of strange though.

Microsoft just rolled out a new feature for Windows 10 that allows the operating system (OS) to automatically uninstall broken or incompatible updates.

Windows 10 will attempt to fix startup failures with automatic recovery attempts before uninstalling the updates.

Users will see this message “We removed some recently installed updates to recover your device from a startup failure. The OS will prevent problematic updates from installing automatically for the next 30 days”.

But the company said in its support article that Windows 10 specifically
removes updates that caused startup failures. Updates that cause other issues will still need to be removed manually, which is probably good for people who don’t care if an update breaks games they don’t play.

  3. Some interesting news related to Windows 10 OS, @DSOG.

A 35-day update pause has landed on Windows 10 Home Insider Builds

Need to Pause Your Windows 10 Home Updates? The option is coming!

Now, it looks like Microsoft plans to give their users more options when it comes to updating their systems. It was recently announced that Windows 10 would soon start automatically uninstalling troublesome updates, a move which will no doubt help many casual users.

Better still, recent insider build of Windows 10 has added the ability to pause OS updates for seven days on Windows 10 Home, with yesterday’s release, build 18356, offering pauses of up to 35 days, bringing Windows 10 Home in line with Windows 10 Pro. This will allow users of the OS to delay updates for over a month, though this change is expected to take a while to migrate to non-insider builds of Windows 10 Home.

  5. @john,

Some head-up if you guys are using Windows10 OS. Problems with Windows 10 update: Update Crashes and System Restore Windows 10 Won’t boot

The most recent update causes users to get stuck during the installation of the update, well that or the system as a whole does not want to restart after the installation which actually is even worse.

Windows 10 devices with system protection enabled and a system restorepoint created prior to the installation of one or more Windows 10 updates will no longer get their system started. When users attempt to restore the system after the updates are installed, a “Stop error (0xc000021a)” will follow.
