New leaked benchmark shows AMD’s Radeon RX Vega is faster than NVIDIA’s Titan XP in DOOM [Rumour]

Now here is an interesting leak. Chinese website KKJ has leaked an image from what appears to be an official AMD press slides in which we see the red team pitting its new RX Vega GPU against NVIDIA’s Titan XP, and the results are quite surprising.

AMD benched DOOM in 4K on Ultra settings via its Vulkan API. And according to the graphs, the Radeon RX Vega GPU was 21% faster than NVIDIA’s Titan XP GPU.

As said, this benchmark was included in one of AMD’s press slides for which its embargo was lifted on May 8th.

AMD has already stated that the Radeon RX Vega will be launched during SIGGRAPH 2017, at the end of July.

It will be interesting to see whether the AMD Radeon RX Vega will be able to surpass NVIDIA’s Titan XP (and the GeForce GTX1080Ti) and in other games, or whether DOOM is just a very special case!

UPDATE:

Our reader ‘Drew Duncan‘ informed us that this image is from a comment in WCCFTech’s April’s Fools article (we couldn’t find the image, however we do have to note that this slide is indeed old). PCGamesHardware, on the other hand, claims it’s a legit image. As such, we’re marking this story as a rumour.

  1. more propaganda from AMD
the ryzen 1800X couldn’t compete with the I-7 7700X in both performance and price
what makes AMD think their card is gonna outperform the titan in 20% more and keeping with the price “afforable”?

just lies from a crappy company that’s going under due to low market-shares and weaker hardware
sad part is, we need AMD strong to keep Nvidia and Intel from cash-grabbing their consumers

    1. It’s probably fake, as it was already released a month ago, but what has this got to do with ryzen which is a pretty good product actually?

      1. Fake or not, it’s true that AMD propaganda is always over the top. The last drop of truth I had on them evaporated as soon as 3rd-party benchmarks debunked the official statement that “the 1800X would beat the 6900K in gaming”….then the benchmarks shows that the 6900K absolutely obliverates it with a difference of up to 35 fps.

And then the AMD fanboys sent rants to the benchmark sites regarding those results. Just incredible.

I don’t even know why I’m waiting for Vega. It’s gonna be Another Major Dissapointment as well. Only that this time the AMD fanboys won’t have as many excuses to justify it.

        1. It’s often not even AMD propaganda, it’s users propaganda, but yes they like to surf it and sometimes they even feed that, but most of the time it doesn’t start from them, aside from the “poor volta-ge” thing

Like i said many times, AMD should should stop being selfish, they could never handle both cpu and gpu division, there can’t be a year where both deliver good products, because their financial situation doesn’t allow them to, so in my opinion they should just let go of radeon technology group, and maybe buy them back later, or a least try, that team has been starving for money for years, and yet they were able to deliver decent products

          1. I was referring to the propaganda they make in their presentations, so no, no “user” propaganda at all.

    2. The 1800x didn’t compete with the 7700k in game benchmarks at launch.*
This is due to low single-threaded performance, something that can be attributed to all 8-core processors, Intel included.

Also, the 1800x wasn’t designed to compete with the 7700k, it was designed to beat the $1100 i7-6900k, which it did so handily.

However, after multiple bios updates, the 1800x is now within 2% of the 7700k in game performance, however the min. average framerates in CPU-bound applications are much higher and the upcoming AGESA Bios update has yet to be released officially.

Overall, for the price: performance ratio, the R7’s are the better processor now.

      1. If you compare the 6950x to 7700k maybe. Kabylake-x has the higher single threaded perf and can retain higher clocks, albeit the ones they’re showing off now (5.8Ghz) are LN2. 6950x is based on broadwell while kabylake-x is the latest in their architectural tweaking. RyZen is a brand new architecture that AMD was able to significantly reduce the disparity between AMD and Intel, and when taking pricing into consideration, is a hell of a better deal. Cannonlake (early 2018) is supposed to bring intel 6 cores to the mainstream, when AMD brought 8 cores to the mainstream. Between Zen+ (Zen2) with 7nm node we should see some large gains and even more competition in the CPU sphere. its been a long time coming. It all depends on how AMD does on the server market, which can help fuel their R&D significantly as Intel owns ~98% of the server market.

  2. I asked about this over at videocardz… Apparently this is an April fools joke by WCCFtech…
    smfh

        1. Yeah, apart from “This slide is fake” I can’t find the source of it (they claim that it’s coming from WCCFTech’s comment section, however I couldn’t find it). As such, I’ve marked this as a mere rumour

          1. i first saw the chart at VCZ comment section. you would be lucky if you can really track the original comment on WCCFTECH. when it comes to AMD or nvidia article the comment section can easily reach 2k comments (of course 98% of them is just fanboy “debate”) at one point the comment section can reach up to 5k comments lol.

  3. get this garbage off the site or at least replace [Rumour] with [FAKE] as that is exactly what it is and it is a known fake from two months ago.

    1. Agree. Just admit that you’ve screwed it up, and don’t just change it to “Rumor” just to save face.

  4. You see AMD, look what you’ve done to us. Now release the card ffs, this is becoming farcical.

  5. 100% fake, The Titan XP isn’t 100% faster than a GTX 1080. That fake graph was floating around wccftech for months.

  6. Then it is 31% faster thna a stock 1080 ti? If it costs no more than 500 euros then it is a win for amd but even if it costs 700 euros like Zotac GTX 1080TI stil a win

  7. I can’t even believe John would post such garbage… Considering that AMD current flagship runs Doom in 4K at 62FPS did he really think that AMD somehow, in one generation, were able to achieve a 229% increase in performance??? Come on man… that’s obvious.

  8. Awww Man!!! This is why Sony is delaying the PS5 until 2019! The Vega is the beast and something the Scorpio should’ve waited on.

    Anotha win for Sony!
