It’s been a while since our last look at the HD fan remake of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Well, good news, Mortal Kombat fans. A couple of days ago, modder ‘Interloko’ released its first public beta that you can download and play.
From what I can tell, Interloko used AI tools to upgrade all of the character 2D sprites. As such, the new HD sprites look highly detailed, and they retain the art style of the originals.
The remake has a few HD stages. It also adds a new stage based on the latest Mortal Kombat movie. Keep in mind, though, that many stages have not been updated yet. I expect Interloko to improve the rest before the final release.
The goal of this release is to get the game into as many hands as possible. This will let fans test it and share their feedback.
I’m not a pro at MK Trilogy, but I’ve played it a lot. From what I’ve seen, this fan remake feels very close to the original. The combos feel the same, and the fights have the same pace. It really feels like Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
This is very important. The classic MK games had a feel of their own. And unlike many MUGEN remakes, this HD remake keeps that classic MK feel.
Now, while all the fighters have been upgraded, there are no finishing moves yet. These will take a lot of time and work to add. Keep in mind that this beta is meant to test the core gameplay. It is not a demo of the full game.
If you are a big Mortal Kombat fan, I highly recommend downloading the beta. You can get it from here. Below, you can also find a couple of videos for it. These showcase all the characters. They also feature the new HD stage, as well as the overhauled stages.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
