Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is free to play for the next two days on Steam

In order to further hype Shadow of War, Warner Bros has made Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor free to play for the next two days. This basically means that you can go ahead, download and play this amazing Lord of the Rings game for free on Steam.

As always, this does not mean that you will own for free Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. It simply means that for the next 48 hours you will have complete and free access to it.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers a dynamic game environment where the player orchestrates their personal plan of vengeance as they bend Mordor to their will. The game begins on the night of Sauron’s return to Mordor, as his Black Captains brutally execute the Rangers of the Black Gate. Players become Talion, a ranger who loses his family and everything he holds dear, only to be returned from death by a mysterious Spirit of vengeance.

Have fun!

    1. It apparently doesn’t. That was never the gripe of people. I won’t explain the gripe people had because it basically ruins the game if you play it. But it is far from bad. I quite enjoyed it.

        1. As far as I know, in the books, there is mention of almost all of these characters; with the exception of the ranger. Factions exist in Mordor and this happens about 200 years before Sauron’s ring was taken by Bilbo. I was reading at the time and I couldn’t find any real discrepancy. Which detachment did you find?

          1. It’s been a while, but as I recall the discussions going off the top of my head; The Ring was lost to the Anduin River when it betrayed the Gondorian King Isildur, who was subsequently butchered there by Orcs because of it. The Ring then remained there until found by Gollum [more than] two millennia later, an undefined period of time before Bilbo came across him in the Goblin caves.

Gollum arguably had The Ring for centuries, according to the “very long life” line, which would argue for more than “just” a couple of centuries worth of it – especially considering how Gollum was supposed to be some sort of a half-Hobbit & Hobbits seem to live for slightly longer than your average 21st century Human.

Also; 200? Huh. I was under the impression this was something like 60 or 80 years before. Weird.

          2. So, if I’m not missing something, this matches it. There’s no date, but from what I read, the game starts with the death of the ranger (which seemed to be about 200 years before the LOTR story), but it does seem to end about 60 years before it. At that time Bilbo has the ring already.
What am I missing here? It matches perfectly, no?

  1. Between you being able to import data to the new game and it still being $4 i guess i’ll finally go ahead and grab it.

  2. Fair warning: If you like to hit on mobs with swords instead of running away like a little b*tch or roflstomping them with arrows, be prepared to have your combo’s interrupted by sh*tty unskippable Nemesis System cinematics……

    Ad eternum.

  3. So poor people are being punished for being poor or been born in the wrong country? Now i’ve heard everything.

  4. This game is VERY repetitive. Would’ve been a dull game if it wasn’t because of the nemesis system. The best LOTR game i played was the LOTR Return of the King on PS2. Different era though but still worth mentioning.
