Metal Gear Solid 4 RPCS3 feature

Metal Gear Solid 4 is now fully playable, from start to finish, on the PC via custom RPCS3 build

Back in August, we informed you about Metal Gear Solid 4 running on the PC via the Playstation 3 emulator RPCS3. And today, we are happy to report that the game is fully playable on a custom version of RPCS3, from start to finish.

Furthermore, the game’s performance has been significantly improved. While there are still some drops below 60fps in some scenes, most of the game can now run with 60fps. For comparison, the original PS3 version is running at 30fps. Moreover, this custom version of RPCS3 fixes numerous bugs and glitches.

What this ultimately means is that PC gamers can fully enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4. In fact, PC gamers can run the game with much better performance than what Konami and Kojima originally offered. And this right here is why emulators are so important, even for newer consoles like the PS3.

In case you’re wondering, yes; you can download right now this custom version of RPCS3 and play the game. You can do so from here. Make also sure to have the latest PS3 system software update that you can download from here.

Have fun everyone!

  1. How do you compile the github source, please.

Ive given up asking the github “community” for help years ago. A bunch of “well, if you dont know..figure it out.” elitists.

    1. You don’t. If you just want to use the emulator, you need to downalod the binares “version”. Source code is for “devs” that want to take a look at the code.

    1. Finally get a chance to play this damn game, but I’m not that excited since I know everything about it and how kind of terrible the story-line became.

  2. From barely being able to boot the game to fully playable (in 4K, no less!) in only a few months. A stunning achievement given the complexity of the task.

  3. Cool.
Now i gotta figure out where i can download the game cause there’s no in hell im paying 5 euro to Mega or buying a BluRay drive.

    1. Last of Us already works on PS4 and has updated graphics and HDR.
There is no need to emulate games that has modern re-release, especially if it has enhancements.

      1. not buying a PS4 just for 3 games (TLoU, Spiderman, Zero Dawn Horizon). tho i MIGHT consider PS5 if it has 99% perfect backwards compatibility

  4. The ps3 version did not run at 30fps it had an unlocked framerate up to 60fps but most of the time it was around 40 or less.

    1. You only really need to emulate 3 and 4 since 1, 2, and GZ/5 are all on PC (also you would need to emulate portable ops, peace walker etc). You can choose between emulating the PS2 or 3DS version of Snake Eater, and you can also choose to play MGS2 original or the GameCube remake. So I guess you could say we’re spoilt for choice on the PC now 🙂
