SQUARE ENIX today announced LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM, the next game in the award-winning, multi-million copy selling, episodic franchise. The game was unveiled with a new cinematic trailer as part of the Xbox E3 Briefing and the first of three episodes will be released on August 31st.

LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is set in Arcadia Bay, three years before the events of the first game in the series. Players will take on the role of a rebellious 16 year-old Chloe Price who forms an unlikely friendship with Rachel Amber; a beautiful and popular girl destined for success. When Rachel’s world is turned upside down by a family secret, it takes this new-found alliance to give each other the strength to overcome their demons.

Lee Singleton, Head of Studio at Square Enix London Studios, said:

“LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is a key release for Square Enix this year and is being created as a direct response to fans asking to return to Arcadia Bay so they can revisit the characters they fell in love with. Many people can identify a particular person who significantly influenced their life; the person that ultimately shaped who they became. LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is about this exact moment.”

LIFE IS STRANGE: BEFORE THE STORM is being developed by Denver based studio, Deck Nine Games.

Jeff Litchford, Vice President at Deck Nine Games, added:

“The original LIFE IS STRANGE brought a new level of depth and real-world emotion to the narrative adventure game genre and holds a strong place in many people’s hearts, including our own. It’s an absolute privilege to work on the next game in the series and it’s our chance to do justice to the series and prove the quality of our unique StoryForge toolset from our very talented team.”

    1. i didn’t say i liked it or not, i said it’s trash, now i’m telling you that i don’t like it since you’re confused

    2. Doing all of this takes little time. It’s not like he had to be very dedicated and go a long way to criticize this game. I, for one, like the fact that not only people who are fans of a given title comment on articles related to it. Why be so selective and express only positive feelings?

      1. I don’t think he wasted time, he expressed his opinion, and many people like to show others what they like or hate.
So he received something benefiting him at a low cost.

  1. Disappointed that they made a prequel. Could have made another 1 or two standalone games. Each protagonist could develop a cool ability, not offensive but fitting for the narrative. Then the final game could have featured all the protagonists. Would have made for some nice world building. Well that’s what I would have done had it been my IP.

      1. A sequel would have been very tricky. Some people would have very different needs than others for where the story could even go. Arcadia Bay was wiped put for some for instance. I would rather a prequel than a sequel that is like Deus Ex 2 which pissed on the choices that most people made in deus Ex 1.

          1. Not so sure…
Arcadia Bay was devastated for some people in a very specific timeline. Nothing is immutable when we talk about time travel.
If she is presented to a new theory that can make it possible to rewind without consequences, there´ll be a whole new dimension to explore.

  2. More than ready. Took a risk with the entire series buying it while still unproven.

    Never regretted that move.

  3. Prequel makes sense, that’s the only way it would work as some of us have no Arcadia Bay to go back to. Can’t say I am liking it being made by this different studio. Looked up their history and can’t list one good game they have done and they have zero experience with PC.
