Metal Gear Solid 4 RPCS3 feature

Latest version of RPCS3 offers major performance improvements in God of War 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Red Dead Redemption & more

The RPCS3 team has released a brand new version of its incredible Playstation 3 emulator that packs major performance improvements to a number of games.

Going into more details, Nekotekina optimized SPU performance which reduced SPU bottlenecks across the board allowing for higher RSX (PS3 GPU) utilization. Metal Gear Solid 4 saw the largest improvement from this change with most users seeing a 25-50% performance uplift.

Thanks to these improvements, Red Dead Redemption now runs faster by 5-20%. However, there are still some performance issues in towns, so the game is not yet marked as “playable”.

Additionally, kd-11 is already working on another RSX improvement, this time to Zcull performance. Early testing has revealed yet another huge gain in Metal Gear Solid 4, and other games as well.

Lastly, kd-11 also resolved an NVIDIA specific physics issue that affected Uncharted 1 & 2.

As always, you can download the latest version of RPCS3 from its official website.

Have fun!

  1. RPCS3 team is awesome! Very good progress! And better performance is nice to have but the missing post processing effects from games are still missing. The motion blur from The Darkness, bloom effect from Dante’s Inferno, etc.

    1. In a way, I’m glad post processing is gone from those games, it adds nothing but visual clutter.

      1. One thing i don’t miss in those games are the colors (or lack of), Case in point MGS4 in the header image. The best Metal Gear in terms of visuals is MGS2 and MGS5: TPP/GZ

        1. I think filters, depth of field and motion blur were the ones that I despised the most.
Everything was a f*king blur to the point I’d get f*king migraines.

  2. i can confirm that “MUH NO PIRACY” from their discord page behavior. they really behave like bunch of representatives from SIE.

  3. Maybe they do it for legal reasons idk, i don’t mind that much as long as they do a very good job which they do, its a miracle this emulator works PS3 was a pain.

    1. Thats true, Nintendo are the worst… also yeah i remember using their website a few years ago (in 2019?) and it didn’t have any message like this. I entered today and i saw the banner you were talking about, eh meh.. maybe they were getting too many messages like “WHERE CAN ME DOWNLOAD MGS4 PLS” etc idk

But ye i don’t like stuff like this, iirc no emu developer has done this ever before and i have been downloading emus since Virtual Boy ;p

  4. Still get around 20 fps in my R5 2600 + GTX 3060 Ti @1080p in MGS 4, my CPU probably are not strong enough (John Linneman with latest Alder lake could get 4K60 by activating AVX 512)

    1. Unfortunately your Ryzen 5 2600 is a Zen+ model, which is a bad fit for RPCS3, because AVX2 is only 128 bits wide there instead of the standard 256 bits.
On top of that your CPU has 2 CCXs interconnected by Infinity Fabric, which further adds overhead and hinders efficient usage of all cores by RPCS3.
