Intel joins the Multi-Frame Gen race, XeSS SDK 3.0.0 Released

Intel has just released the SDK for Intel XeSS 3.0.0. This will allow developers to implement Intel XeSS 3.0 in their games. And, as the title implies, with this release, Intel officially joins the Multi-Frame Gen race.

Going into more details, Intel XeSS 3.0 adds 3x and 4x Multi-Frame Generation for Intel Arc GPUs. It also improves frame generation models for better UI smoothness on all supported GPUs. Plus, it adds support for external memory heaps for sharing GPU memory with other game engine components.

Although I reported in my previous story that Intel XeSS 3.0 MFG would work with non-Intel GPUs, it appears that this was false. Intel XeSS 3.0 MFG will only work with Intel Arc GPUs.

Now, I don’t know whether or not developers will embrace this latest version of XeSS. The reason I’m saying this is because we’ve seen a lot of games that lack support for Intel XeSS.

Right now, the most adopted PC upscaling tech is NVIDIA DLSS. AMD FSR comes in second place, and XeSS is in third place.

Since I don’t own an Intel Arc GPU, I won’t be testing XeSS 3.0 MFG. Hopefully, it can come close to what NVIDIA has achieved with DLSS 4 MFG.

In theory, you might be able to force Intel XeSS 3.0 MFG in games that already support NVIDIA DLSS 4 MFG via OptiScaler. And, since devs usually skip XeSS, OptiScaler may be a godsend for all Intel Arc GPU owners.

Anyway, those interested can download the Intel XeSS 3.0.0 SDK from this link.

Stay tuned for more!
