    1. Word on the street is that you need the Anniversary update to be able to play it. No idea if you need it for it to download.

      1. Performance is great. Reviews says that this game is better optimized than Forza Apex. Full 60fps in 4K on single GTX 980TI. There are even PC online matchmaking community page on Discord “Halo 5 Forge LFG”.

        From review:

“We’re still not sure exactly how this magical DirectX 12 juju is responsible for such smooth performance on Microsoft-published PC games, but holy crap, does Halo 5 Forge run beautifully and smoothly on my high-end 4K rig. The same locked 60 frames-per-second refresh I saw from the free Forza Motorsport 6 Apex release returns to this new Halo experience, even at the staggering resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. My testing rig—with an i7-4770K processor and a GTX 980Ti video card—is no slouch, but on it, most PC games struggle to lock at 60 FPS on mid-high settings when resolution is set to 1440p, let alone 2160p.

Yet with every Halo 5 Forge setting maxed out, including texture resolution, texture filtering, shadows, foliage, and ambient occlusion, I can’t get the framerate to stutter, save a few rare stutters as the camera hovers around the map in a pre-battle preview.

To be clear, Halo 5 Forge does not allow players to disable dynamic resolution changes. When I tell Halo 5 Forge to render at full UHD/4K resolution, it tells me, in tiny text, that the resolution could change at any moment for the sake of performance. Once I read that note, I shoved my eyes pretty much directly onto my 31.5″ screen, keeping an eye on edge-of-screen elements that might noticeably blur, shimmer, or stair-step to reveal a drop from full 4K rendering. Throughout all of my frantic combat, I never noticed a single dip. That’s obviously anecdotal and imprecise, but if Halo 5 Forge is downsampling on the fly to keep my 60 FPS refresh stable, I’m not noticing it.”

First review says that this is probably best optimized multiplayer FPS game ever created on PC. Can’t wait for Gears of War 4 and I hope that next year they release Halo 6 on both Xbox Scorpio and PC.

        1. Halo 6 won’t be next year. Even excluding how they already have Halo Wars 2 scheduled for February 2017, it’s also the 10th anniversary of Halo 3, so a Halo 3 Anniversary Cut seems to be a definite, especially considering the Scorpio’s 2017 launch. Having Halo 6 launch in 2017 would serve as a great Scorpio launch title, sure, but it would also detract from both of those games, which I doubt Microsoft wants.

Most importantly, I doubt they’ll want to draw any attention away from the re-packaged, marginally updated Halo: Master Chief Collection they’ll be featuring as a launch title for the Scorpio (“now with 4K compatibility, & the all-new Halo 3 Anniversary cut!”).

I mean, after all, the only alternative is to launch Halo 3’s Anniversary remaster solo, physically, or only digitally. Honestly, neither option seems particularly likely to me, so, yeah, repackaged MCC. Especially when one notes how it would fix the original MCC’s battered & bruised reputation from its bad launch.

          As such, Halo 6 will be in either 2018, or 2019, IMO. Anyway;

Interesting. So that’s 2 Microsoft titles now that can actually use DX12 well (including the F2P racer who’s name escapes me right now). Other than that, I’m pleased to see 343 (343 did do this port, right? No sneaky outsourcing credits tucked away anywhere?) does actually know how to do a PC game properly, as it gives true hope for a future in which the PC will finally, once again be experiencing Halo – properly.

Well, kudos to 343, then. I guess this means they’ve learned to code netcode properly, which is always a good thing.I’d say I look forward to playing this, but honestly….. eh. Microsoft Spyware 10, etc. Plus, I’ve still got ElDewrito 😛

        2. Agree, if this is what true, made from the ground up DX12 can do for games than I’m all for it, runs amazingly well on my r9 290

    1. I cared… then i learned that there was no cross-play so i cannot play with some of my friends who had Halo 5. Then the heavy drink kicked in and then AA meetings, then the pills. Now i don’t care any more.

      1. There is PC online matchmaking community page on Discord channel “Halo 5 Forge LFG”. You can use it as browser based “matchmaking”.

  1. How large is the download?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to download it on another machine and copy the install files, my main rig is stuck with a borderline useless internet connection (can’t even watch 720p youtube most of the time) and it’ll take me 2 weeks to get a decent 100/100 connection installed.

I’m going back home on the weekend where i have 500mbit so I wanted to download the game there and bring it back to my rig via portable storage.

  2. I’m not personally interested in this but I think it’s great that MS is finally serving the PC gaming community for once.

Of course, I know this is just a concerted effort to draw more people into Windows 10 and the Windows Store, but still.

  3. I had the same issue at first. You need the anniversary update for Windows to get it in the store. I had to manually download the update since they haven’t rolled it out all at once, but once I did, it was available via the link in this article.

    1. yea i had to do that too, then change a crapton of settings bc the update made ram usage hit 70-89% on just the desktop(i have 32g so thats unreasonable), startup and shutdown hung for like 3 minutes etc. keep in mind im using an intel 950 pro so that should never happen lol the update is aids

  4. Talk about DESINFORMATION

Microsoft could have announced and/or made this feature(millions fans were waiting..) available. .. during july.. or august.. or october… or 1-6 septembre…

    But NO.

Of course, they HAD TO release it ONE day AFTER a certain presentation that made the entire planet put their eyes on a certain ps4 model…

Do you remember, when sony presented the ps3, at paris, and microsoft HAD to pass in fron of everybody, with the green ‘x’ boat with some text written ‘xbox loves you’…

    July, agust, october, 1st September, 2, 3…
    NO

THE ‘FAIR’ players, obviously, had to announce it right after the ps4 announcements, just to not let any xbox fan become interested by the upcoming ps4 pro, after they read thousands of ultra positive articles, opinioms, comments, etc.

I can bet my entire game collection that tomorrow, or these next 2-3 days, microsoft will release some precious info about the xbox Scorpio… to keep fans awake… and MORE interested. .

And of course, we should have some articles from the classic haters, like a certain Kain, from a know newspaper/website, or from a website that got 750k green bills from a major software developer…
…articles that will bash sony, will bash the ps4 pro, because it can’t do real native 4k, bla bla bla, etc…and will promote the ‘true’ 4k console, whose 6 tflops will produce better looking games than an ‘ultra’ pc, with a i7 6950x, 32gb of ram and 3 titan x cards !

These next 2 months, desinformation is going to be crazy, all the hating websites, fans and the xbox PR team will be really busy, trying to convince gamers to not buy a ps4 slim or ps4 pro, and instead, wait another 14 months for the amazing 4k Scorpio.

It’s going to be funny and interesting, for sure 🙂

  5. Managed to join a game with 9 other players by browsing a sub reddit, very very VERY impressed, the game run and looks beautiful, if this is what true DX12 is like then bring it on! We need that server browser asap though, a free, unlimited content, with unlimited maps Halo. This has potential to be absolutely huge

Do your self a favour, download it, join a group with some friends and frag the night away! I had fun with the BF1 beta, but I didn’t laugh and smile as much as I did with this game last night! Fantastic

  6. There is no one playing online? I can’t seem to get in a multiplayer match with other people. Does it have cross platform play vs xbox one users?

    1. You have to join other players games manually, there isn’t any match making or lobbies yet, though it is coming. It is essentially just forge, the map maker, but when lobbies come to PC it will basically turn it into a free to play Halo with unlimited maps. So much potential! In the mean time Discord have the own way to join games with players, also search Reddit for games, it’s worth it
