GOG is giving away for free sci-fi horror game, SOMA, for a limited time

GOG is currently offering free copies of Frictional Games’ latest sci-fi horror game, SOMA. SOMA is a unique game, created by the developers of the Amnesia and Penumbra games, as it tellsย an unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human.

In SOMA, players will delve through locked terminals and secret documents to uncover the truth behind the chaos. Players will seek out the last remaining inhabitants and take part in the events that will ultimately shape the fate of the station. However, danger lurks in every corner as players will encounter corrupted humans, twisted creatures, insane robots, and even an inscrutable omnipresent A.I.

This free offer will end in about 46 hours so make sure to acquire your free copy while you still can. Also, and as with all GOG releases, this SOMA version does not pack any DRM.

Those interested can get their free copy from here.

Have fun!

  1. First thing I do when I wake up in the morning is check GOG for anything new. 2nd thing I do is check DSO gaming. I laughed when I saw this article. John you are on this stuff like White On Rice. Amazing man ?

    1. It’s a horror game that focuses more on existential dread than on monsters or spooks. The strongest aspect of the game is the writing and how deeply it explores the themes that the setting introduces.

Gameplay-wise it’s toned down from Amnesia, sadly. You just explore an area, listen to some dialog, maybe solve an easy puzzle and avoid some monster.

If you’ve played any of the recent hide-and-seek first person horror games that have become popular since Amnesia, you’ll have a good idea of what the game plays like, what really sets this one apart though is the writing.

    2. Have you played Amnesia or Alien: Isolation? The gameplay is similar. Also the game is about 10 hours or so.

      1. Nothin like Alien Isolation. That is a complete lie. COMPLETE LIE. Maxim don’t ask these people anything. 95% of these people just cry about games and know jack sh*t

    1. Do not listen to the man of ruse, for his every word is but a trick.

Click on his username and witness the strange shenanigans.

A man of many faces, to be sure.

    2. These are the salty remnants of rejection for an ill advised career in games journalism.

Did your english teacher tell you he thought you were special before he introduced you to mr winky?

  2. Story-wise, one of the very best game ever released. I was left speechless for a couple minutes after the end credits rolled…

It would make a really great movie ( of course it would not, Hollywood would f*ck it up ). Gameplay was okay but environments were often impressive, and the atmosphere ( the “pressure” ? ๐Ÿ™‚ was great as well.
