GeDoSaTo is now compatible with the first The Witcher game, adds Ambient Occlussion

The Witcher fans, here is something for you today. NexusMods’ ‘hub997’ has uploaded a version of Durante’s GeDoSaTo mod that is compatible with the first The Witcher game, adding Ambient Occlusion support to it.

The Witcher is a really old game and since CD Projekt RED has not added support for AO via a post-launch patch, this is a must-have mod for those that want to replay it. Now if only someone could update its textures with ESRGAN in order to provide sharper and more details visuals… but anyway.

All you have to do is download GeDoSaTo from here, extract “GeDoSaTo.zip” wherever you want, run “GeDoSaTo.exe”, change options according to your preferences, minimize  and enable the game.

The latest version of GeDoSaTo improves system path detection for WOW64, improve handling of swapchains, fixes some crashes, e.g. LRFF13,, fixes console rendering in some games, and fixes crash if there is no “C” drive.

hub997 has also shared some comparison screenshots in order to showcase the Ambient Occlusion effects that are added to the game via this method. Do note that Reshade cannot enable AO even in its latest version in this particular game.

Enjoy!

    1. i always thought 2 was the best and hated everything about 3 other than graphics particularly in skellige or whatever that viking-ish island is called. i never played first one enough to develop a good thought on it. what makes it better than 2?

        1. Atmosphere, music, combat stances for strong, fast and group enemies. Overall it’s a the closest Witcher game to the source material.

Played TW and TW2 back to back first in 2014, TW2 is a departure in all areas and felt cartoony and very consolized.

          1. i prefer tactical combat that has depth in it, which is why i prefer crpgs in general. i’d probably try it at some point.

          2. What are you talking about… TW2 took forever to come out on console and the 360 version was garbage next to the PC version… And the Witcher 2 enhanced edition on PC has visuals that are on par if not better than the PC version of TW3

        1. 1st too had corridor maps even if it’s a PC Only game, but it has a better story than the 2nd, it was a cool game tho, a bit simplified but with a more complex story and choices, not to forget it was a graphical beast back then, even today it looks really good

          1. No the first game had a large map area, the second game was swamp corridors and mountain corridors.

          2. I don’t have any memory of that, just like the second, it was semi open maps, and a lot of them have corridor design and invisible walls, it was more diverse tho, a lot of different environments

  1. my god i have tried about 5 time to play this game and the combat throws me off every time is there away around it ?

  2. I honestly wish this game got a more proper remaster or remake, because getting it to run nice and proper on modern hw can be a right pain, as well as trying to mod it. Also the old control scheme was rather archaic.

  3. How does one use ESRGAN, just compile the GIT source? Clearly it’s more complicated than it sounds, or everyone would be using it.
