Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games – the developers who created the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise – have announced that their working on a new post-apocalyptic first-person shooter battle royale game. This is called Fear of the Wolves, will release in 2018, and promises to offer a new and original take on the growing Battle Royale genre.
Fear the Wolves drops players, in squads or as lone wolves, into the oppressive environments of a radiation-ravaged Chernobyl. The classic Battle Royale mode forces them to fight to be the last man standing out of 100 fighters. Another intense and original game mode will also bring a fierce new twist to the genre.
To secure the top spot, players will need to worry about more than just other survivors. Across the hostile wastes, everyone is threatened by deadly anomalies and the dynamically-changing weather. Along with a day-night cycle, this constantly forces survivors to adapt their strategies, and players can find protective gear that allows them to explore dangerous off-limit zones. All the while, the howls of mutated creatures echo through the wasteland…
More details on Fear the Wolves will be unveiled to attendees at the What’s Next de Focus press event in Paris, February this year. Developers at Vostok Games will be available for interviews and presentations to share more information about their upcoming hardcore Battle Royale shooter.
Fear the Wolves comes to PC and Consoles in 2018. Early Access begins this year on PC.

Another Battle Royale genre title ? Why can’t the DEVs also add a SINGLE player story mode, and campaign as well ?
Is it because MP/online games are going to SELL more, than single player titles ? Or, the devs/publishers just got influenced by PUBG’s success ?
.
Following the trend is basic game dev behavior…not surprised about that
Indeed, that really seems to be the case…
And the fun fact is that the “genre” they “invented” is basically a rip-off of a classic open world survival, so that’s not even a good invention in the end, but the $ factor is enough to make it look like it’s a genius.
“Or, the devs/publishers just got influenced by PUBG’s success ?”
Do you really need to ask? The funny thing is that PUBG is just a game mode (or mod) and any game nowadays can be updated to feature a Battle Royale mod so expect new games copying the PUBG formula to bomb.
I had to ask ’cause I’m skeptical about future PC titles also following the same trend like this.
Hard to find good single player/story mode games these days….
Don’t get me wrong though, there are indeed few good SINGLE-player games out there, but not too many of them, in my opinion…
” I’m skeptical about future PC titles”
I wouldnt be skeptical about that, i would be skeptical about the AAA industry in the west, it seems to be so far up its own a s s to understand what is going on.
Prey, elex, upcoming dusk, conarium ac origins maybe, i dont know looks big enough, not wolfenstein 2, too short too scripted….a patched ghost warrior 3 is pretty descent, subnautica is good gets old after a while.
first it was platformers, then doom clones and jrpgs, then cod clones then rogue likes, then minecraft clones then day z clones then far cry clones then dark souls clones now you got PUBG clones
lol…
truly an innovative industry my dude, any game that comes out is either a rogue like, a far cry/assasin creed game a dark souls game and almost always it hs a open world…also lootboxes. Truly a masterpiece of innovation.
“doom clones and jrpgs, then cod clones then rogue likes, then far cry clones then dark souls clones”
These clones would follow a genre pattern (old school fps, scripted rpg, dungeon crawler, open world story driven fps), PUBG is more like a Multiplayer FPS mode (kinda like Counter Strike which is just a team deathmatch mode)
well it was a matter of time
*see’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. & immediately clicks*
“…have announced that their working on a new…”
Yes
“…post-apocalyptic…”
YES
“…first person shooter…”
IT’S HAPPENING
“…battle royale…”
*flips desk*
Did they learn NOTHING from Survarium?
if we lucky it will happen, not from them, I think around 2020 (anounce I suppose will be earlier), I am very serious) , + there is Metro Exodus from 4A
Ye, hyping up game by saying it’s made by STALKER devs is all fine and dandy IF the game itself was like STALKER.
Anyone can do PvP shooter.
Are you talking about me?
I think this year call of duty will have battle royal mode too 😀
We know the new Battlefield will have Battle Royale so it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if CoD also followed suit.
Lost me at BR.
That genre is the new Moba spam and I wish it would die already.
Wow didn’t expect this from you, good, good!
I don’t mind FN or PuB existing at all. I just wish people didn’t fall into the pitfall of “gotta get that juicy goldmine” type fever. They should instead try working on their own ideas that don’t revolve around easy cash grabbing.
This is honestly what I loathe about the industry as a whole atm. The RTS genre is playing second fiddle to the turn based one, due to the amount of devs churning out one TB game after another. Same goes for Souls and BR clones as well.
Aight
Also i just wanted to point out that STALKER creators are GSC Game World, not Vostok or Focus Home, which most likely have some ex-GSC in their ranks, but that still doesn’t make them STALKER maker in anyway.
Much love John xoxo.
Yeah lets make another online shooter. Yipiiiiiii – in low and dissapointed voice. Oh lets make another PUBG games there are two really good games right now we can do it so much better. Game comes out 1-2 years from now about 20 to 50 PUBG games later. And then it fails – I see this so much lately(MOBA, FPSMOBA, PUGB) why nobody learns do something new or do singleplayer.
