Far Cry 5 is the fastest selling title in the franchise’s history, second biggest launch ever for a Ubisoft game

Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 5 is the fastest selling title in the franchise’s history. According to the big publisher, the game more than doubled first week sell-through of Far Cry 4, and it currently represents the second biggest launch ever for a Ubisoft game, following only Tom Clancy’s The Division, with $310M USD in consumer spending through the first week.

Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft America, said:

“Far Cry 5, like the real Montana, is a vast and gorgeous playground filled with colorful stories for players to enjoy and share. We’re grateful to newcomers and fans of the series who have joined us in Hope County and have collectively grown our community.”

Dan Hay, Executive Producer on Far Cry, added:

“I’m proud that the culmination of years of passionate work from the team is paying off, and that Far Cry 5’s experience resonates with so many people. We are humbled by players’ reception of Far Cry 5 and fired up to keep growing and supporting the Far Cry community in the months and years to come.”

Ubisoft has also shared the following infographic, detailing some of the game’s statistics in its first week!

        1. Well yeah , I got the game but given that ff 15 is taking most of my time I did not play fc 5 as much.. I did however put 10 hours in and it is by far the best fc after fc3.

          1. FFXV turned out to be surprisingly good, actually liked it more over time but wan’t impressed with the demo much. The game grew on me for sure, even continued playing it after I completed it with the higher level.

          2. I’m still on the fence, I will probably buy the windows store version since denuvo is so bad.

    1. Well, i had a theory about this, look at assassin creed 3, it was a huge launch with lots of sales but the game was meh. Now compare that with sleeping dogs which failed miserably.

Americans seem to buy games based in America and ignore the rest. This is why i think this game sold so well

  1. The game triggered gamespot. One in particular being a gamespot employee who created a black character (gamespot employee made sure everyone knew it) and then when listening to a character talking about “Obama lovin’ libtards” talked about how uncomfortable he felt for his character. As if all black people in Montana are liberal. And the specific situation actually happened.

Thanks GameSpot, your BS politics just took my $60 and put it into ubisofts hands. Just glad to see its going towards a decent game.

    1. There are black conservatives though that’s for sure, you just don’t hear about them much. There is one girl in the game that gives you a mission that looks like a SJW, blue hair, looks so odd and out fo place. Jess the black women is a pretty good character.

  2. The game is fun, the shooting is satisfying that’s for sure but those VIP and flamethrower guys are like bullet spounges and so are the black bears, you can pump entire magazines into them and they don’t die, they’re like tanks it’s stupid. The texture detail is really good, they paid close attention to the world in that repect, textures are far better than AC Origins, so is the foliage in that respect, it’s superior due to them using photogrammetry as well.

I think the game is also best played without the indicators and wall hack mechanic, turn that sh*t off, this is not Crysis where you have a suit with a HUD to help you.

    1. Nope, I mean in that you could tag enemies with the HUD because you were in a special suit.

      1. Yeah I hate the wallhax as well, as if a red arrow above the enemy isn’t easy enough.

      2. There is tagging/spotting Crysis OG, but it isn’t like the 3D marking you get in Crysis 2 & 3.

Spotting mechanics in FPS games underwent serious casualisation in ~2010 with the advent of 3D spotting (markers over heads, auras around character models, etc.) resulting in the massively different Crysis 2-type system.

You can note this in other IPs as well, like Battlefield; Bad Company 2 had a mix of the “old school” spotting system and the 3D spotting that’s become standard in Battlefield ever since, whereas Battlefield 3 & 4 went for the all-out 3D spotting system with arrows over people’s heads in real time.

        1. Honestly the tagging in far cry is too easy, you pull out the binos and your character auto tags everything in the distance.

          1. Almost anything from UBIsoft is a t*rd of a game to PC enthusiast. They are known for reducing the quality to match that of the console’s.

          2. I own the PC version and it’s beautiful and runs amazingly well on my mid-range computer. I’m really enjoying the game. Sure, it’s no Far Cry 3 story/character-wise but it still stands as a very good entry into the franchise.

          3. I see, I have been boycotting them ever since the Watch Dogs PC port. Admittedly I did buy Star Trek Bridge Crew though and while it did accomplish my fanboy dream of being a captain of the enterprise. The game was otherwise incredibly shallow and served only to that end. No sort of ship vs ship multiplayer, no beaming down to planets or ships in missions and to top it off as a money grab they had the gall to release the game as a standalone title without VR…
So yeah I don’t like UBIsoft like a lot of PC commenters

          4. yet their games are considered to be one of the prettiest in the business.

            From John himself:
“Graphics wise, Far Cry 5 is a beautiful game. As you may have noticed, there aren’t any Texture options. Ubisoft has jumped on the photogrammetry bandwagon and thanks to it, most surfaces look great. The rocks especially are amazing. The lighting system is incredible and the Global Illumination affects are fantastic, especially in closed areas. Most characters are highly detailed and the environments are lush and full of small details. We also noticed some amazing tessellation effects on the roads and some cool water interactions. However, things are not perfect. Ubisoft has used a really aggressive LOD system, even on Ultra settings, which results in noticeable pop-ins of objects and shadows. The water reflections did not also impress us, and while players can bend tall grass, they cannot bend most of the vegetation meshes.”

  3. Me think they toned done the baizuo BS following the reveal backlash. One may hope they realize none of us, except for political activists, want their crappy politics in our games.

The Father only wants you to have fun with your fellow gamers…

    1. Well they certainly will think twice if the political coretness laden games will stop selling.

Because you know, the profit comes before ideology.

    2. You have no idea what the politics of the game were at anytime before the reviews dropped. Ignorant conservatives gamers just overreacted when the game was revealed. Instead of waiting to see what the game was actually about.

    1. Yeah, she’s not as good as a character that breathes through her skin so she has to parade around half naked, smh.
