Dark Souls Remastered will be discounted to all owners of Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition, first gameplay trailer

Back in January, Bandai Namco revealed that the PC version of Dark Souls Remastered would be discounted to all owners of Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition. However, PCGamer stated that there wouldn’t be any discount, despite Bandai Namco’s previous report. And today, we are happy to report that the publisher has officially revealed that there will be a discount.

Bandai Namco did not reveal whether the game will be discounted by 50% as was advertised back in January. The game will be discounted by 50% as its Japanese website reveals. 1. I honestly am baffled that you had to point this out. What the hell is wrong with common logic these days?

        2. Another ‘opinion stated as fact’ comment from you following you having berated another site member for having done the same thing. gg

    1. From explicitly stated what the PC port was when they released it. If you bought it expecting more, it’s your own fault.

      1. On the other hand, when they pushed it out they expected moderate sales figures, at best. Instead, they got serious revenue, and decided to sit on it instead of spending some of it as a “thank you” to the community.

        And now, this.

        1. They likely didn’t have the staff at the time with the know how to even fix the issues. You have to remember, they were at the time a fairly small console centric developer. They’ve grown s ince.
The funding they got from that poor port is likely what resulted in better PC support down the line, which has been pretty good. I’m thankful for that. Continue to support their PC releases and the quality of their ports will only improve.
Offering the remake at 50% off is a good gesture. If you don’t like it, don’t partake. You still have the port you paid for.

          1. Sure, they probably didn’t know how to make a good PC port at the time, agreed, but that was years ago, now. And yes, they did better with the Dark Souls 2 and 3 PC ports, but sadly I never cared for either of those games, so that doesn’t really do much for me, and there’s no guarantee I’ll be supporting their next endeavour, either.

Regardless, my point was, they never bothered to go back and fix the port even after scoring big, and now they want money from a cheap cash-in re-release disguised as a “remaster.” Yes, I don’t have to pay for the “remastered” game (and I probably won’t bother with it, since it seems to be another one of those “didn’t even bother to fix half the old bugs” “remasters”), but seriously, 50% off for existing owners isn’t a “good gesture”, it’s expected; discounts for existing owners always are, unless the re-release is priced at $10 or less.

    1. Sony owns the IP for Demon’s Souls (and Bloodborne), not Bandai Namco. The closest we’re going to get is emulation on RPCS3.

  1. I’m split with this decission.

I never buy remasters If I already own the original
But I always buy QLOC ports (I know, it’s not confirmed that they did the port)

  2. Time for Sony and Microsoft to adopt a similar feature. Cheaper remasters for players who have the original game on their tag get a discount. It could be ‘abused’ but it’s also highly unlikely it would be largly abused.
