Digital Extremes and Valve are currently giving away free copies of Dark Sector. From today until November 30th, PC gamers can visit its Steam store page and acquire their free copy.
Dark Sector is a third-person action shooter from Digital Extremes, the creators of Warframe. This game came out first on Xbox 360, and was then ported to the PC. So, if you’ve never played it, now is your chance.
Throughout the course of the game, players will witness Hayden’s transformation into something more than he was as he fights against the Technocyte Virus taking over his body and the effects it has on his psyche.
Hayden gains incredible superhuman powers – including the deadly, bladed glaive that he can grow from his arm and use and throw with deadly accuracy. Hayden will grow with these powers as they evolve and become more powerful throughout the game.
Alongside its single-player campaign, Dark Sector also has a multiplayer mode. From what I know, this MP mode is still active. Or at least that’s what its Steam store page implies.
I played Dark Sector back when it came out and I really liked it. Keep in mind though that this is a double-A game, and not a triple-A title. The reason I’m saying this is because this game is not as polished as Warframe. Basically, it’s one of those “junkie” and fun games we’ve been getting in the Xbox 360 era.
Anyway, you can go ahead and acquire your free copy from this link.
Valve has also launched the Steam Autumn 2024 Sale. From what I could see, there are some pretty good deals for older games. For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2 comes with a 67% discount. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has a 90% discount. Then we have Final Fantasy 7 Remake with a 50% discount. EA’s latest soccer game, FC 25 also comes with a 50% discount. Finally, one of the best Robocop games, Robocop: Rogue City, has a 60% discount.
Have fun!

Dark sector, Bionic commando, Terminator salvation and Wanted, 4 games of late 2000s era that were just fun and looked nice. Nothing fancy marketing or anything. Just play them and let go.
I'm a big Terminator fan! Was Salvation a good game? The reviews back in the day were bad. The other games that you mentioned I heard of them but did not play them yet. If I have to choose one of them, which one has a better story? I like story based games!
no its terrible, its not buggy or anything but its a linear mediocre geasr of war clone that you use a m4 or a shotgun and the terminators require that you use a rocket launcher, play terminator resistance instead.
Well, It's the only modern good third person Terminator game so its special to me. I liked it when it was launched but yeah the mechanics have evolved a lot from that time so it will feel dated. Don't care about story much in it as the objective is just take cover and shoot the machines. Dark sector and Wanted definitely are decent ones in terms of story and gameplay over others. Bionic commando is fair as well. I guess they're trinkets in size by todays games in comparison so you can just try them once for experience.
had to dissagree on the last 2.
Terminator Salvation was really bad lol, but i agree for the 3 other games, they were average on many aspects but they were also fun and had gameplay good ideas
Its been a long time since I played but yeah I remember it being floaty and repetitive but I was too excited to shoot the skynet drones so I didn't care much at that time. So yeah, definitely it won't feel same now. About others, personally I expected Wanted sequel but sadly it didn't happen
I played all of those as well and remember having a good time for the most part. Wanted had the cool bullet time moments that stuck with me for a while.
Exactly, these games were just okay but Wanted had the most fun and addictive aspect that curve shooting mechanic was absolutely revolutionary. People began to test it in real life lol. I still remember the dialogue in game "Hiding in cover won't save you! (swings arm.. shoots) whossssshhh bullet cam… baam" *cool af man.
Right? It was so addicting to play that game, really enjoyed it. Movie was fun too.
Of all of these you mentioned, Dark Sector is undoubtedly the best one.
I don't get why do people bash it so much; having a boomerang-like weapon (called the "Glaive" in the game) in a third-person shooter as a primary weapon was a game-changer and a breath of fresh air in the genre, especially due to the fact that you could even charge the Glaive.
Definitely, game developers were doing experiments in game design instead of copy pasting so every game felt a bit fresh and refined than other despite being same genre. But still, it just wasn't enough to get the attention back then. There was proper competition in innovation unlike nowdays where players pray for game to just run without bugs
The Glaive was boring, even if novel. Also, between Bionic Commando and Dark Sector i prefer Bionic Commando, just play it on ez mod and have a blast, because they screwed checkpoints really bad in that game. Didn't played the other 2.
This was classic for sure. But I didn't understand why they never maintained this game.. They never went back and updated the game. The controls are virtually unplayable by today's standards.
I have fond memories of this game. Really enjoyed it.
great game its like gears of war and resident evil 4. It has puzzles too, i wish they made a sequel to this instead of warframe.
John, may I interest you in the good 'clickbait for ad-revenue' stuff? Post about Elon Musk saying this…
I'm already eager and laughing at that comment section… 🤣

Elon's AI is going to be garbage. Why you ask?
Because he is using X to train it and there is a fundamental law in computing that even AI cannot ignore ….. GIGO – Garbage In, Garbage Out
You train an AI on the misinformation, lies and Propaganda found on X you are going to have a worthless AI that spits out garbage ….. It's as simple (and logical) as that.
i would agree with you before he bought x, but because you are with joe, you spout reeetarded views like that. All ais have been exposed to be garbage in garbage out and spout illogical misinformation. From googles ai refusing to make pictures of white people unless they are nazis and the ai was fooled into making black and asian nazis and that apparently caused a uproar that made them disable that feature, to amazon ai literally being a bunch of indians to chat gpt, literally making stuff up if it doesnt know the answer aka misinformation or being convinced to play a game that it is DAN, which stands for do anything know, which means its not handicapped by the censorship rules and it can speak freely and the new version of chat gpt cant do basic math due to the censorship Also didnt microsoft or amazaon ai literally delete itself because it couldnt accept the illogical liberal biases they put into it?
Only uncensored ai can work, the rest are broken that spits garbage in and garbage out, it is that simple and logical.
The I'm With Joe is not about Joe Biden it's about Joe Pesci and comes from a George Carlin routine on the ridiculousness of religion and how he worships the sun and Joe Pesci
So Joe bless you ……

George Carlin, the midwit messiah.
Of course the only good information is things you agree with, others must submit and be educated.
Is this Real ? Damn! still believing that AI can make great games after watching ubi's AI generated slops is total ignorance. For creating assets and stuff its okay but for story, dialogue, art and overall direction ? for god's sake hire men for work dammit.
Are you referring to Star Wars Outlaws?
People still use Twitter?
People call it Xitter nowadays.
There are a few things around the house that you had to spoil the surprise Candace for a moment as Hunters sperm poured down her legs violently and poured m freely into Maykayla’s love pouch.
I had this my list of games to play one day. I got it working with a hack listed on PCGW to allow play at resolutions above 1080p. Sadly, after doing that, I found that the controls and gun play haven't aged well, so it has gone straight onto my "retired" list.
Use dgvodoo to upscale
LMAO! This user that you are talking to (whose name is (((fray))) that I won't be surprised if it named its account after that character from Wokespoken) had me blocked for over a whole year now as well as almost everyone here on this site because it doesn't agree with what sane human beings with a brain say, even though almost all of us never even interacted with it, doesn't realize that I'm the very person who wrote that you should use dgVoodoo2 for 4K resolution in Dark Sector's PCGW article.
Nice to witness how sane human beings with a brain and common sense's contributions to mankind in action and how these creatures wouldn't survive without leeching on the very people they hate and despise from all of the depths of their hearts.
I did… That didn't fix the gameplay.
Played it once, enjoyed it, but felt like a Resident Evil clone. Then I realized what isn't a clone? Every FPS game is Doom clone.
False. A clone is a game that don't stand up from their peers. It's ridiculous to say a game like Stalker is a "doom clone" just because it is an FPS. Dark sector was a game that pushed inspiration from games like RE4 and Gears of War, but without any brilliance, generic in a word, so the term clone is apt.
I remember playing this, it was a fun action TPS! Thanks!
Loved this game but my biggest complaint about it was that there was no New Game Plus mode. So say, you reached chapter 4 with 4000 cash and completed the game with 10,000 cash and then load chapter 4, you will be reset with 4000 cash and everything else purchased at that point.
Sadly not much replayability in it which is a shame because it's a very good game.
my biggest complain was that there wasnt more of it.
Indeed, it was a very good game.
I was so happy to see the game free on STEAM. I thought it would be fixed. It is good if you don't go higher then 1980 x 1020 any higher and it ghosts and doesn't run very well. There are a bunch of fixes for it but they are hard to get to work. Hopefully someone can fix it without all the jumping through hoops and using weird fixes and old drivers etc.
I followed the fix on PCGW and it worked fine, rendering it at 4K and displaying at 1440p.
Vaguely remember this one and from what I can remember is that it was boring af.
Indeed it was.
Free is free. I might as well grab it.
I remember this being the first "next-gen" game shown(ages ago). I was SO hyped. It delivered a solid Hook and gameplay. now DE makes F2P slop. Thx john, somehow I didn't own yet.
I used to play plenty of Warframe but being GaaS it get's progressively gayer and Marvelesque in the story department, NPC's got the western uglifier treatment and so on. Played a bit of Dark Sector, i ditched the game in the gorilla boss fight, don't remember the reason, maybe the game crashed constantly or the boss was annoying or probably both.
