Capcom Vancouver pitched for a new Dino Crisis, was working on Unreal Engine 4-powered Dead Rising 5

While Capcom Vancouver is no more, it appears that this studio was interested in reviving some classic Capcom games. One of them was Dino Crisis, a game that a lot of Capcom fans want to see return. Unfortunately, though, Capcom Japan shut this project down.

As DidYouKnowGaming revealed, this project never really left pitching phase as Capcom Japan shut it down after a few months of work. Capcom Vancouver was also interested in reviving Onimusha or creating a new MegaMan game. However, Capcom Japan declined once again reviving them.

Now as we’ve reported back in 2018, Capcom Vancouver was working on a new Dead Rising game. This Dead Rising game was no other than Dead Rising 5, which would be using Unreal Engine 4.

Set in the years between Dead Rising 2 and 3, Dead Rising 5 would have taken place in Santa Catarina, Mexico.  Players would assume the role of Chuck Greene, who first appeared in Dead Rising 2.

Dead Rising 5 was a co-op game. One player would control Chuck while the other would control his daughter, Katie. Naturally, each character would have a unique set of moves.

Capcom Vancouver planned to have colorful and vibrant environments. As said, the game would be using Unreal Engine 4 and not an in-house Capcom engine. The game could also have some light RPG elements/mechanics. Thus, players could apply elemental effects – like burn or force damage – to weapons. There were also new options for traps. However, Unreal Engine 4 also brought some development challenges. At that time, Epic’s engine was not ideal for handling open-world environments or to have hundreds of enemies on screen simultaneously.

Unfortunately, and after large changes in design direction, Capcom Japan decided to shut it down. For instance, at some point Capcom Vancouver planned to transform Dead Rising 5 into an action RPG that was heavily inspired by the Dark Souls series.

Lastly, Capcom Vancouver also experimented with a new Ghost n Goblins-based game. Codenamed Panther, would be a third-person action title, and would be also using Unreal Engine 4.

You can find more details about Dead Rising 5, Dino Crisis and other Capcom project that Capcom Vancouver planned to revive in the following video.

Enjoy!
