Now here is a pleasant surprise. It appears that Capcom has just removed the Enigma DRM from Resident Evil 4 Remake. So, right now, Resident Evil 4 Remake does not have either Denuvo or Enigma.
Let’s start from the beginning. Last month, Capcom removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech and replaced it with the Enigma DRM. This is something Capcom has done with some of its older PC titles. However, it appears that the Enigma DRM introduced a noticeable performance hit in Resident Evil 4 Remake.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting Capcom to completely remove the Enigma DRM. However, after the huge backlash, it seems the team was forced to remove it so that they could improve the game’s performance. Regardless of the reason, this is a big win for everyone who purchased the game. After all, the pirated version ended up running better than the Steam version, and that’s a big no-no for multiple reasons.
As I said, Resident Evil 4 Remake was initially using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, but Capcom removed it. Capcom has also removed Denuvo from some of its older PC games.
In November 2025, they removed it from Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, and Resident Evil Village are also Denuvo-free as we speak. Similarly, Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake no longer use it. In July 2025, the Japanese team also removed it from Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess.
Other companies have also removed Denuvo from several of their games. In March 2023, KRAFTON removed Denuvo from The Callisto Protocol. NEOWIZ has also removed it from its Souls-like game, Lies of P. In October 2024, Gearbox removed it from Homeworld 3, too.
Then we have Square Enix. In December 2025, they removed Denuvo from Just Cause 3. SE has also removed it from The Diofield Chronicle, VALKYRIE ELYSIUM, TRIANGLE STRATEGY, LIVE A LIVE, and Forspoken. Moreover, both Octopath Traveler and its sequel no longer use it. And that’s not all. In May 2024, SE removed it from Star Ocean The Second Story R. Finally, in March 2025, the publisher removed it from Final Fantasy 16.
And that’s not all. Bethesda’s Wolfenstein Youngblood, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Doom Eternal no longer have it. Warner Bros has also removed it from Mortal Kombat 11 and Gotham Knights. Then we have Bandai Namco, which has removed it from Tekken 7 and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER.
If you are into Resident Evil 4 Remake, I also suggest taking a look at these mods for it. A must-have mod is the First-Person Mod. This mod adds a tactical first-person mode with iron sights for every weapon. It also includes custom aiming stances and new animations. You can adjust the camera position and field of view to fit your liking. To avoid visual issues, the mod automatically hides the character’s head, hat, and accessories in first-person mode.
Owners of high-end GPUs can also use REFramework to enable Path Tracing in Resident Evil 4 Remake. From what I have seen, Path Tracing brings some artifacts to the game when it rains. Still, this is something that some of you may be interested in. Plus, REFramework allows you to enable DLSS, which is not supported by the game.
Stay tuned for more!
