Capcom has removed the Denuvo anti-tamper tech from Resident Evil 7

Now here is something really interesting. While Resident Evil 2 Remake came out with, from what looks like, a new version of Denuvo, Capcom has removed this controversial anti-tamper tech from Resident Evil 7.

Although we don’t know the reasons behind this removal, Resident Evil 7’s Steam store page has also been updated in order to reflect this change (similarly to Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 7’s page listed Denuvo on the right).

Still, this is great news for those that wanted to play Resident Evil 7 but were put off by the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. Not only that, but it will be interesting – at least for some – to test the Denuvo and the Denuvo-free versions of the game (though I don’t expect any major performance differences between them as this particular game wasn’t CPU-bound).

From the looks of it, Capcom is using Denuvo only to secure the sales of its games for their first year and is willing to remove it afterwards. As such, it will be interesting to see whether Capcom will remove Denuvo from both Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5 in 2020.

Have fun!

  1. Ooook, the game was cracked within days, why did it take them years to remove it? Better late than never I guess.

      1. Which is stupid, you couldnt play the expensive and short dlc but they gave the longer and better dlc for free.

          1. Or they coulda release a stand alone free DLC(not a new concept, see FEAR combat), if it was truly free.

      2. This is garbage and people need to stop saying that. because once the game is cracked it’s cracked and the DLC’s are uploaded as they come. The only person Denuvo is protecting the game from for 2 years after it’s been cracked 5 days upon release is, THE PAYING CUSTOMERS, A.k.a The Legit Suckers. Why does everyone like to parrot the same rubbish every wher eyou go.

        1. “because once the game is cracked it’s cracked and the DLC’s are uploaded as they come.”

Then why is the RE VII Gold edition being uploaded on piracy sites just now instead of when it was originally released? Sure, you can say the reasoning is dumb for devs to do the Denuvo thing, but it is what it is

  2. why someone need to pay for the Denuvo license as it already been cracked years ago?
It’s simple not to renew a license for a cracked games and its a good publicity to for the new game RE2 remake.

  3. RE7 got cracked already a long time ago. But the new thing is that RE7 Gold edition just got cracked after this denuvo removal. Which includes all the great dlcs. Not a hero. End of zoe…etc.

    1. Plaza and Codex are the teams who crack the drm free games. Cpy and 3dm and blackbox never bother to crack them. They focus on denuvo’s hard to crack games. Lately CPY are the ones kicking denuvos butt. Every hard game to crack has been cracked.

  4. I have also removed the tamper tech from my wallet that was blocking a purchase of this game. Funny how that works.

  5. Thanks capcom, thats a good policy. I hope you do the same thing with your other games, and i’ll support you fully…

  6. Oh sh!+, wtf, lmao. It’s a/b got d@mn time, Capcom. More publishers should make this common practice. Thanks Beth for ushering in the new wave w/ Doom.

  7. Interesting. I’ve been trying to play RE7 for a few days now on Steam and I’ve run into an issue a lot of people are having, where the game launches into black screen then goes to desktop without any error messages. It’s probably wishful thinking that removing Denuvo might have fixed this.

      1. THIS is something to consider, since there’s always doubt about DENUVO being or not a problem on games.
I’m a pirate myself, so never had to worry about it, since I rarely pay for games, but it’s good to know that, at least in this case, DENUVO WAS a big problem for the players.

  8. This is indeed good news, it means you can buy the game today and be safe you can play it in ten years.

  9. However, it’s now one year on from the game’s launch so the one-year timed exclusivity deal with Sony for the VR mode has expired. So where is the VR mode for PC gamers?

      1. Well it is NOT open world so in a way you’re restricted in your decisions but it’s still a memorable game, for me.

        1. That’s not what i mean, because most open world games a trash. open world doesn’t have anything to do with unscripted. What i means it seems like those games that are “on rails”. which doesn’t have much to do with freedom of choice. I’m not asking if you get to choose your path or what not. Just look at a game like Dead Space, that is a story driven game but its not “on rails”. you are still in control to a degree. RE 7 just feels like, you are moving and the game dictates everything for you.

  10. Doesn’t matter what Denuvo version gets released. CPY will always find a away to crack those game. Even games that were impossible to crack got cracked by cpy.

  11. Indeed. The VR mode timed exclusivity deal with Sony was widely reported (and echoed by Capcom representatives on the Steam forums) to be for one year and that period just recently passed.

Capcom have had a whole year to fine tune it for Vive and Oculus Rift and yet we’re still left waiting while they continue to maintain complete silence on the matter.

  12. RE7 was cracked on Day 5… The only people Denuvo was protecting the game from all this time was from THE LEGIT CONSUMERS. When will people wake the hell up. Just Cause 4 Cracked 2 days after, Hitman 2 Cracked 2 days prior to release. RE2 Remake Cracked 2 weeks before release. So who are these games being protected from after they’ve been cracked and still have Denuvo in them, especially the games that got cracked prior to release. No one seems to ever wanna answer this question, because they know they are suckers for buying into this rubbish. Good Riddance People…………

    1. Funny thing is that they claim DENUVO is a protection for those who pay for the game, but in the same time, those people can’t play it because it fucks up good with it.
