Beacon – Sci-fi Action Roguelike Game – Announced for the PC & Mac, Gets Debut Trailer

Monothetic today released a trailer for their new project Beacon and announced that Beacon will be coming soon to both Windows and Mac. The trailer provides the first official gameplay footage of the game to be made publically available.

Beacon is decribed as an Sci-Fi Action Roguelike that asks you to fight, die and mutate yourself to escape a deadly hostile planet. Played as a top-down shooter, you must fight your way through a randomly generated hostile world, all the while trying to locate your emergency distress beacon and escape the planet into which your ship has crashed.

“While you’re making your way through these areas, you’ll not only find weapons and items to help you; You’ll also be collecting DNA from the enemies you defeat. Then, when you inevitably die, you’re given the opportunity to combine the DNA you’ve collected to your own, granting you different stats and potentially gameplay-altering physical mutations for your next run.”

Beacon aims to create a bridge between fast, frenetic action and long-term strategy, where your actions can be felt and built upon hours down the line.

Enjoy!

  1. The opening had me with low expectation, but once I saw the gameplay it looks pretty great. Pretty and neat artstyle, nice amount polish in effects and impacts, will keep an eye out.

    1. Weird, but I have the exact opposite impression. Intro was great, but gameplay itself is not so much. Basically, a prettier version of Alien Shooter without gore and vehicles.

      1. To me Intro looked like something I am tired of seeing, already knew it was an isometric shooter from the image. The weapons looks pretty cool, and anyway this isn’t really a genre where we have many games. So a prettier version of Alien shooter is fine by me.

  2. BACON?! 😀

    Oh… well, nevermind.

Looks interesting, “roguelikes” are my jam as of lately. Wishlisted. 🙂

  3. Every time i hear “roguelike” i think “we are too lazy to make a proper campaign and proper levels, here randomly generated levels, play for 5 levels, die restart. infinite gameplay time.

        1. Wouldn’t it get boring after a while?
Although I have a curiosity about how things would be after our civilization.

          1. I mean, after humanity of after life on earth, what of the environment and nature. If life would sprout out again or if there will be nothing at all.

All this talk because of bacon lol.

          2. I still believe one day we will find our way to the stars, otherwise our existence is meaningless. Although what we will find there may only prove it, but learning the truth itself is worth it.
