Avowed and Monster Hunter Wilds may support 60fps only on PC

It appears that two highly anticipated triple-A games may support 60fps (and higher framerates) only on the PC. These two games are Avowed and Monster Hunter Wilds. So, from the looks of it, PC gamers will get the best experience in them.

Let’s start with Avowed. Obsidian themselves stated that they are targeting 30fps on Xbox Series X and S. Right now, they have no plans to support a 60fps mode on consoles. So, those who want to play this new RPG at 60fps (or higher) will have to play it on PC.

Similarly, Monster Hunter Wilds appears to be locked at 30fps on consoles. Its Gamescom 2024 Demo did not have a Performance Mode. So, just like Dragon’s Dogma 2, we can assume that MHW will run at 30fps on both PS5 and Xbox Series X. At least at launch.

Now if things are similar to what we saw in DD2, there might be a “performance” mode. That mode will most likely have an uncapped framerate, with the framerate hovering between 30fps and 60fps. However, I wouldn’t really call this a 60fps experience. I mean, you can only get 60fps if you stare at the sky or the ground. In real gameplay situations, you’re mostly looking at 40-45fps.

To be honest, I’m not surprised by any of this. We already know how taxing Unreal Engine 5 can be. So, my guess is that Obsidian is using Lumen in order to enhance the game’s graphics, without any fallback. Hilariously, the devs said that the game does not need 30fps because it’s a… first-person single-player game. And that’s total bullcrap. But hey, we all know the real reason why the game will run with 30fps on Xbox.

Monster Hunter Wilds is the second open-world game using the RE Engine. This engine works really well for smaller, more controlled games, like Resident Evil. But when it comes to open-world games, it struggles to run smoothly at high frame rates. We saw this before with Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Anyway, I’ve also included below a new gameplay video for Avowed. This video shows 30 minutes of gameplay footage from its Gamescom 2024 demo. So, be sure to check it out.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. Obsidian themselves stated that they are targeting 30fps on Xbox Series X and S.

It's amazing Xbox sells any units all.

      1. Western gaming community demands the troons – I’ve heard that from the Blackrock and Sweet Baby managers.

  2. This is mainly because console gamers and controller users are too busy supporting gay rights.
There's no room for 60fps support bros

    1. like rpg codex said "who is this game for?" Its not for oldschool fans and its not for the modern audience so who is it for? Looks like it was made for the people who enjoy dungeon puzzles in skyrim and avowed's combat and i could not care any less for the dialogues. Feels like a AA x360 game with rtx and better textures.

      1. When you hit them they glow red like in Diablo 3&4 but red instead of white.
Those numbers popping also reminds me of looter shooters.

  3. looking at dragons dogma 2, it will only support 60 fps on the next cpus, because the ones that got released also suck.

  4. I was iffy about Avowed at first but the way they break down the combat where it really does feel like a crpg but as fps seems so hype.I hope its a deeper and more expansive adventure than outer worlds turned out to be but Im excited for it and to be able to enjoy it at 60fps on pc.

  5. Why does that woman in the Avowed video has a strange peircing in her nose ? What kind of crazyness has befallen to her ?
Woman be a woman ! If her ancestors would see her now they wouldn't reproduce offspring..
These kind of crazyness would put her in an insane asylum..

        1. Well I said it's cute. I didn't say I would do it or I'd encourage anyone to do it.
Not to mention, I don't think it fits everyone but it looks good on some people.

  6. Obsidian themselves stated that they are targeting 30fps on Xbox Series X and S.

    1. PS5 as well, considering the games "line-up".

This gen is in shambles, Soyny should be glad they got Demon's Souls locked on the platform.

    2. series s is a very accessible console. Most games run on it and play fine enough. you can get one for sub $200 regularly. then gamepass gives you that huge library of games for monthly fee. i know friends and kids I work with who have gotten it because its accessible, cheap and plays all the games their friends play.

  7. So much for the "Next Gen Consoles are going to make the PC obsolete" propaganda ……. Granted for $500 you get your money's worth and they should be marketed like that and not by feeding everyone with a bunch of BS about being so powerful they are going to make PCs obsolete yet can't even do 60 FPS on PC Medium settings

  8. Not a fan of avowed's style. Also the whole 'fps lock' is beyond weird to me, especially on PC. it should be unlocked by default, sure modders can do that for us, but I dont wanna constantly rely on modders to do it.

    1. Only on PC, meaning that it may not on consoles. Read carefully the title. It’s not “may only support 60fps on PC”, it’s “may support 60fps only on PC”. There is a big difference in the meaning of these two sentences.

  9. The MHWilds demo was taken from an earlier build. Probably too soon to guess at its final performance.
