ASUS has announced that Intel will release new 9th Generation Intel Core processors that will be based on new stepping. These new processors are meant to go live in Q2 2019 and ASUS has already released BIOS updates for all the 300 series motherboards in order to support them.
As the motherboard manufacturer stated:
“ASUS has released BIOS updates for all 300 series motherboards, adding support for the forthcoming 9th Generation Intel® Core™ processors based on new stepping. These processors are scheduled for launch in Q2, 2019. The latest BIOS updates are available for download now from the ASUS website.”
Intel has not revealed what new features these processors will feature. Perhaps these new chips will feature hardware improvements in order to mitigate the Spoiler security vulnerabilities we reported earlier this month? Or perhaps better voltages and lower temperatures?
It’s also worth pointing out that Intel has not officially confirmed yet whether it is indeed planning to release these new processors that will be based on the new stepping. As such, there is a chance that these chips may never see the light of day (though it seems unlikely otherwise ASUS wouldn’t be releasing a new BIOS in order to support them).
Kudos to our reader ‘Metal Messiah’ for bringing this to our attention!

If you had a 1060/70, yea.. an upgrade would be cool.. but with a 1080.. its kind of tricky.
Usually its best to wait for the next gen cards that replace the 1080 with a much better card for cheaper. At least i have noticed that (like how 1070 owned the 980 card and the same for 780)
No card is worth 1000 imho, cuz in a year or 2 it will be down in price big time so why bother even… its not like your games will lag with even a 1070.
My next upgrade will be a 16 Core AMD. 8 Core Intel just won’t cut it for me anymore.
All this money I am saving thanks to the Epic Games Store will make for a very beefy upgrade:
AMD 16 Core CPU
Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti
64 GB of RAM
What century for that upgrade?
1899 and/or 2077
Lol
You nothing saving any money with 64 GB of RAM for gaming, ridiculous.
I want to run 10 Game Store Launchers at the same time.
Legis use case!
I say wait additional 6 months and go for 128gigs instead…EGS will increase savings as time goes on!
he’s being sarcastic, can u not sense it?
Think I’ll still wait for 7nm Ryzen. Intel has dropped the ball of late. We’ll see if they pick it up again in the near future.
Based on the 14nm+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ fabrication
Nice find, @MM. I’m eager to know what these new procs are going to be. I’m still using an X299 intel mobo though.
Meh…in the summer i will be with a new AMD Ryzen 7 nm.
i9 doesn’t equal 9th gen, 😉
14nm++++++++++++++++++++++Super+ with blast processing
Coming soon
The Intel train wreck surely puts them out of consideration for the next 18months at least?
As an intel fan, I can’t wait to switch to Ryzen 9 3800X!

What are your thoughts on this move from intel ? Are you also planning to upgrade this year, or you will continue using your current setup, be it Intel or Amd ? or wait for next year instead ?
