Ubisoft has shared its earnings results of H1 FY2018, revealing that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is selling relatively well. Although the company did not reveal whether this new AC game has surpassed the sales of Origins, it did claim that its sales are above expectations and that 45% of those sales are coming from digital.
Ubisoft has also revealed that The Division 2 has set a new record for beta sign-ups and that it is expected to sell more than Far Cry 5. Far Cry 5 is one of the best selling titles for Ubisoft and outperformed Far Cry 4, meaning that the French team expects this upcoming title to perform even better than Odyssey.
Ubisoft has also stated that Rainbow Six Siege saw its second strongest activity ever with over 40 million players, and For Honor surpassed 15 million total players.
Now as you may all know from an earlier graph, Ubisoft is one of those companies that heavily invests on the GaaS model (Games as a service). And while a lot of gamers appear to be against it, the company announced that player recurring investment is up 50% YoY. In other words, and business-wise, this move has paid off.

How is everybody not sick of their grindy shallow game formula yet ?
Believe it or not because EA, Activision, Bethesda, Microsoft, WB, 2K have made fewer and worse games this gen. Only Ubisoft and Sony have been on top of their game. Rockstar and CD Projekt Red take 5 years to get a new game out and Valve is also missing in action.
Because people like you and me are actually just vocal minority.
Vast majority of people simply play the games. They don’t then go on random internet forum/discussion/comment sections to talk smack about games.
Same reason why each new CoD still sells so well even thou “everyone” seemingly hates it.
It’s baffling realization I know but that is how it is. I learned about this when playing newest WoW expansion. You see everyone on internet hates it. Reddit, MMO champion, Official Forums even! BUT! People who are not on either of those and just play the game? They like it. That is the reason why state of it is what is is.
Well and me thinks this goes for every game really. We (as people who discuss games on internet) are actually that vocal minority you sometimes hear about. Not voice of majority.

Grindy is subjective. Every game has a repetitive gameplay loop.
I’m enjoying it, but only because I really like exploring the world.
The combat is actually half decent this time, the story is O.K. at times, and Kassandra is great.
But, yes, the gameplay is grindy AF. But, I’m using it to kill time between games I really want to play. Guess that works out for now…
Sometimes the grind is the game.
Warframe was that way for me.
I normally hate “grindy” games, but this AC game’s setting is so incredible that I feel totally engaged with exploration. Greece looks fantastic, the character moments are really well done, and the battle system is just deep enough to keep me engaged. I have A LOT of complaints, dont get me wrong, but this game is pretty damn good if you ask me.

Sad it is that far Cry 1 is the best FPS I’ve played and Far Cry 5 is the worst Far Cry I’ve played. it just gone worst chronologically.

Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 made me realize how much Ubisoft titles feel completely artificial, filled with grinding and lacking any good story-telling. Yes, the map is huge and the game can be fun sometimes but boy… it is Ubisoft’s formula used ad nauseum…
Any word on if they’re actually working to improve performance (please don’t laugh, I’m trying to be serious here).
