In 2019, Amazon announced that it was working on a new The Lord of the Rings MMORPG. However, Bloomberg reported yesterday that this game has been officially cancelled.
According to an Amazon spokesperson, the company had been unable to secure terms to proceed with this title at this time. Thus, the team that was working on it will now focus on other projects.
Amazon’s spokesperson also said that they love the Lord of the Rings IP, and are disappointed that they won’t be bringing this game to customers.
And that is that.
To be honest, I had completely forgotten this TLOTR MMORPG. After all, we didn’t hear anything about it since its initial announcement in 2019.
So, the only official The Lord of The Rings game that is currently under development is Gollum.

nice, thank you for the good news.
LMAO, how many games have Amazon cancelled so far? They should’ve stayed out of the gaming industry
That’s what happens when your motivation are cynical and driven by ravenous greed.
They pretty much have. Announce a game / cancel a game. Wash, rinse and repeat.
Business company worth hundred of billions can’t even develop a single game lmao.
So many LOTR games have gotten cancelled such a shame nobody ever made a good game related to it.
you didn’t like shadow of mordor, and shadow of war?
It got pretty repetitive for me; I have it on Steam but still havent managed to force myself to finish it. From what I heard, the second one is pretty much the same. As flawed as it was, I enjoyed War in the North more.
Those were Arkham games with LOTR skin.
Those had nothing to do with LOTR
First one was ok but the second was God awful.
The PS2 movie games were actually pretty good way back when.
Nah they were awful console rubbish.
They were as good hack n slashes as any at the time.
The RTS games were ok, Battle for Middle Earth 1&2
Preferred the first one, Didn’t like 2 because enemy could just scale your defensive walls.
Yeah forgot about those they weren’t bad.
seems like 2 LOTR games bound to fail. first mmo.. lost me there. 2nd gollum.. i’m not really a big fan in playing as gollum. let me play as gandalf, legolas, arragorn, and all the iconic characters.
Of course, China and Tencent were involved… Of course…
(((You)))
This is the type of cancel culture I enjoy and support. I hope the TV series shares the game’s fate.
Amazon ? more like Amazoff ….

Nearly every website or forum seems to be ignoring the glaring fact that, Tencent are the ones who swooped in, bought the Asian studio and didn’t agree with Amazon’s contract, which made things difficult and they basically ended the game.
Tencent going around as usual, screwing things up.
nobody investigates anything these days
An Amazon-Tencent child, not that’s some hellspawn I’m glad we didn’t see.
