Serious Sam Shatterverse feature

A new Serious Sam game just got announced, but it’s not what fans expected

Devolver Digital has announced a new Serious Sam game, called Serious Sam: Shatterverse. However, this isn’t what fans would expect, as it will not be a part of the main series. Instead, we’re looking at a co-op roguelite FPS for 1-5 players.

In Serious Sam: Shatterverse, players will blast through shifting universes, stack wild boons, bend the rules with run modifiers, and hunt Mental’s deadliest forces.

The game promises to have high-adrenaline, run-and-gun arena chaos, big battlefields, nonstop pressure, and perfectly-timed one-liners when everything’s on fire. Or at least that’s what Devolver Digital claims.

As I’ve said numerous times, I’m not a fan of the roguelite genre. So, although I’m a Serious Sam fan, this is a game I’m not really looking forward to.

Devolver Digital has also shared a trailer for Serious Sam: Shatterverse that you can find below. From what I can see, this Serious Sam game borrows the art style of Serious Sam 2. In other words, we’re looking at a more cartoony Serious Sam game.

And look, I don’t mind the art style. But the combination of roguelite, co-op, and cartoon graphics, does not bode well. It feels like a mix of all the current trends. And that’s not what I’d want from a new Serious Sam game.

Anyway, Devolver Digital plans to release Serious Sam: Shatterverse sometime in 2026.

If you are a fan of the roguelite genre, you should definitely watch the following trailer. If not, this trailer won’t make you change your mind!
